Improve
communication
BY STEPHANIE
LEVESQUE
Various techniques for im-
proving communication both
with staff and the general
public were approved by the
Huron County Board of
Education.
The board approved eight
recommendations from its
executive committee at its
March 14 meeting.
The recommendations
follow a commitment made
by board chairman Dorothy
Wallace to improve com-
munication with the two sec-
tors.
Articles and a question
and answer column about
education in Huron County
will be published in Focus,,a
Signal -Star Publishing Co.
Ltd., publication. Individual
schools will publish school
newsletters for distribution
and have "school news" col-
umns in local newspapers.
These formats, it is hoped,
will improve communication
with the general public.
Internal communications
will be encouraged by in-
viting the chairmen of
various principals' commit-
tees to attend meetings of
similar board committees.
Principals and teachers will
also be invited to make
presentations to various
board committees where it
would assist the board in
making a decision.
Annual one -day seminars
will also be held with board
members, executive ad-
ministrators and principals
on a current topic about
education and every three
_years I following an election
a three-day workshop will be
held for trustees, ad-
ministration and principals
where common concerns
and problems will be
discussed in-depth.
St. Helens institute holds
sunshine sister banquet
The St. Helen's W.I.
sunshine sister banquet was
held in the St. Helen's W.I.
Hall on March 30 with the St.
Augustine Ladies catering to
a lovely roast beef dinner.
The institute's group one was
in charge of the evening and
helped decorate the tables
with baskets of Easter
flowers and pussy willows.
Seven members had perfect
attendance at every
meeting, Mrs. James Ait-
chison, Mrs. Harold Gaunt,
Mrs Gordon Lyons, Mrs.
Helen Todd, Mrs. Ivan
Clarke, Mrs. Ross Errington
and Mrs. Harold Cooper.
Several contests and a sing
song with Mrs. Bruce
Raynard at the piano were
enjoyed.
The guest for the evening
was Miss Ruth Thompson of
Lucknow. She showed slides
and explained them on her
trip to China, which was very
interesting.
