Rev. Henderson chairs cancer society
The Lucknow Branch of
the Canadian Cancer Society
has re -organized under the
presidency of Rev. William
Henderson and an initial
meeting was held Monday,
March 7, with six members
present.
The upcoming April can-
cass will be under the
capable supervision of Anne
Kreutzweisser and Mildred
Loree. This event will be
promoted with the sale of
daffodils flown in from Vic-
toria , B.C., and sold 10
blooms for $2.00, Watch your
paper for date and place of
sale.
An invitation to attend the
Bruce County District meet-
ing, March 17, at Paisley,
was tabled and it was agreed
Lucknow send a report to the
Walkerton ofiiee for presen-
tation at the meeting giving
the financial report for 1982
as follows; Canver Canvass,
$3,167.00 Memorial Dona-
tions, $949,50.
Bonnie Ackert reported
the Terry Fox film, I Had a
Dream, had been shown in
district schools, Lucknow
Central, Brookside, Ripley
and Holyrood,
A future meeting is plan-
ned for May 30 at the home
of Greta Johnston. Anyone
interested in the work of the
Canadian Cancer Association
is invited to join the unit. The
branch needs people to help
publicize new information on
this dread disease and to
assist in the raising of hinds
for further research.
Lnstitute hears about special education
The March meeting of the
Lucknow Women's Institute
was held in the Town Hall on
Tuesday, March & Nineteen
members and three visitors
attended.
After a delicious dessert
and tea, Grace Gibson, the
president opened the meet-
ing. During the business it
was decided to have a pot
luck dinner at the annual
meeting. Tickets on the quilt
were distributed to be sold.
The program was chaired
by Mrs. William Campbell.
She opened with a poem,
Today. Grace Campbell fav-
oured with a humorous Irish
reading entitled, McGinty.
The motto was ably taken
by Mrs, Harvey Webster,
Education is developing the
mind, not stuffing the mem-
ory. Mrs, William Hender-
son was present and led in an
Irish .sing song,
`Margaret Ferguson was
the guest speaker and she
gave some very interesting
pointers on Bill 82, the
ministry of education bill
which sets guidelines for
special education of excep-
tional children. Mrs. Howard
Barger thanked her and
presented her with a gift.
Mrs. William Campbell also
presented Mrs. Ferguson
and Mrs. Henderson with
gifts of her own making.
Mrs. Cyril Brown gave an
interesting article on the new
editor of the Home and
Country, She is Carol Kirby
and plans to give a new face
lift to the magazine.
Mrs, Campbell had a very
interesting contest and after
thanking all who took part,
dosed the meeting.
Trinity UCWhold Irish programme
Trinity U.C.W. held their
March meeting at the home
of Dora Alton on Thursday,
with an attendance of 16. The
president, Mrs. Ken Alton,
called the meeting to order
with a poem, Joy Is Just
Around the Bend.
Cora Cranston read the
scripture, and Isabel Hunter
read a poem, Prayer For
Selflessness. Cora Cranston
led in prayer and the medi-
tation was given by Isabel
Hunter, Live to Witness.
Wilma Blake continued the
Mission Study on the South
Pacific with an article, Und-
erstanding Eden. Bell Hack-
ett conducted the Bible Study

The regular meeting of the
Lucknow Junior Women's In-
stitute was held on Tuesday,
March 8 at the Lucknow
Town Hall. President, Sherry
Alton, called the meeting to
order.
The May meeting, which is
to be a CPRI course, was
discussed to see if there were
enough ladies interested in
taking the course.
The Spring Conference,
which Lucknow is hosting on
April 9, was discussed. Regi-
strations are coming in and it
looks like it should be a great
day.
With Jamboree '83 in
Lucknow this year, the group
talked about various projects
they could do for the com-
munity and also what the
group is responsible for dur-
ing the Jamboree.
The election of officers was
then conducted by June
Alton, Provincial President
of Junior Women's Institutes
of Ontario. The positions
were filled as follows: pres-
ident, Sherry Alton; vice
president, Pat Porter; sec-
retary, Mary Nelson and
Joan Livingston; treasurer,
Mary Nelson; press reporter,
Nancy Aitchison and Audrey
Ritchie.
An informative talk on her
Junior Farmer trip to Aus-
tralia and New Zealand was
given by Audrey Ritchie, She
also showed her souvenirs
and pictures which were very
interesting.
South Kinloss SMS meet
The March meeting of the
South Kinross W.M.S. was
held March 2, 1983 at the
home of Mrs. Leonard Mac-
innes. The president. Mrs.
Evan Keith opened the meet-
ing with the poem. Others.
Mrs. John Mowbray pres-
ented the Bible Study en-
titled, inferiorities. Several
scripture passages were read
and a question and answer
period was conducted by
Mrs. Mowbray.
Mrs. Jim Burt, Mrs. Vera
Schmidt and Mrs. Harry Lav -
is took part in the prayer
circle. Following this, 14
members answered the roll
call with a Bible verse on,
Heal. The offering was re-
ceived and the offertory
prayer was given by Mrs.
Leonard Maclnnes. A read-
ing was given by Mrs. Leon-
ard Clark entitled, Szrmon in
Song.
Mrs. John Mowbray pres-
ented the third segment of
the study book in the form of
a film strip. This film gave an
interesting sketch of the geo-
graphical, historical, and cul-
tural make up of the New
Hebrides islands and what
the Christian Church has ac-
complished there, past and
present.
Mrs. Jim Burt gave a read-
ing, Blessed is She, followed
by the courtesy remarks by
Mrs. John Mowbray. Mrs.
Evan Keith gave the closing
prayer. Grace was sung and
a tasty lunch was served by
the directors, Mrs. John
Mowbray, Mrs. Jim Burt and
hostess, Mrs. Leonard Mac-
innes.

The collection for the Fel-
lowship of the Least Coin was
taken with a short prayer
following,
Isabel Kilpatrick read a
poem, March. The roll call
was answered with an Irish
Symbol.
Following the business,
the meeting closed with
Mayme Wilkins reading a
poem, The Legion of the
Blarney Stone.
A social hour was then
enjoyed, and the ladies
showed the three quilts that
have been c ompleted.
