Pine River Cheese opens new office and store

On Friday afternoon
February 11, 1983, the first
meeting of the board was
held in the new Pine River
Cheese Factory with presi-
dent Gordon Patterson con-
cession ltl east in Huron
township in charge.
Present with him on this
historic occasion were vice.
president Lynn Farrell and
director Alex Stewart both of
Highway 9 west of Millarton,
directors Jim Farrell and
David ()oiling, secretary
treasurer Mrs. Joyce (Bob)
Courtney and Manager
Cteesemaker Don Martin all
of the Reid's Corners area
along with the building con-
tractor Don MacArthur,
RR5 Kincardine. They
decided to have the official
opening later this coming
spring.
The past week has been a
time of moving things from
the old site to the new plant.
On Monday of this w1ek the
office and cheese store
started in the new building
on Highway 21.
Cheese making is expected
to start towards the end of
March. Once the plant is in
operation people will be able
to view the procedure from
an area specially built for
this purpose,
The fire which destroyed
the former cheese factory
was on Monday October 26,
1981, and the date of the fire
in the new building was
Tuesday September 7, 1982,

Mr, and Mrs. Bob Thomp-
son of Ripley and the 12th
concession east in Huron
township are back home
from a holiday week in Mex-
ico, Bob and Judy enjoyed
the warm sun, the sand., and
the friendly people at the
Junior institute learn
about dance program
The Lucknow Junior Wom-
en's institute held their reg-
ular meeting on Tuesday,
February 8 at the Town Hall.
Plans were finalized for the
spring conference, Get Ener-
gized for Spring. Lucknow
branch is hosting
Workshops on interior der -
orating; kid's cake decorat-
ing; astrology and palm read-
ing and Dance It are planned
with an afternoon guest
speaker,
Diane Ewer, who teaches
Dance It in Lucknow, was
guest speaker for the Febru-
ary meeting, She explained
the program and some mem-
bers of her class demonstrat-
ed a warm up, two dances
and a cool down. The mem-
bers of the Institute then had
an opportunity to learn a
warm up, a dance and a cool
down, It was enjoyed by
everyone present, and was
followed by a social time,
St. Helens youngsters
celebrate birthdays

celebrated their birthdays
with a party on Friday after-
noon, Michaei is eight and
Steven is five,
Mr. and Mrs. Angus Mc-
Donald, Donald MacDonald
and Mariann Coiling attend-
ed the 25th wedding anniver-
sary of Mr, and Mrs. Allan
Barbour of Palmerston, The
celebration was held in List-
owel.
Mr, and Mrs Hugh Todd
and family visited Friday
with Mr. and Mrs. Keith
Cranston of Whitechurch.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Todd
visited with Mr, and Mrs,
Mark MacAulay and family
of Huron Township on Sun-
day.
Mary Nicholson escaped
injury when her car skidded
off the road near the farm of
Edward Shetler. Some dam-
age was done to the car,

Mr, and Mrs, Allan Cran-
ston mo\ cd into their new
home during the weekend,
Their family joined them to
help with the moving,
Kitty Purvis was treated at
the Wingham and District
Hospital for injuries received
in a fall, Get well wishes are
sent out for her broken arm
to mend rapidly.
The hydro crews have
been working in the area
changing the wiring to new
poles, This has resulted in
several hydro interruptions
for customers,
Mr, and Mrs, Rick Hum-
phrey of Clinton visited with
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Todd.
St. Helens UCW study
the topic, Pacific Way
St. Helens U.C.W, met on
February 8, 1983 at the home
of Mrs. Don Cameron. There
were nine ladies present.
including one visitor.
Mrs. Gordon McPherson
had the call to worship and -
read the scripture and medi-
tation, Worship closed with a
hymn and prayer by Mrs.
McPherson.
Mrs. Frank McQuillin had
the topic - further study of
the "Pacific Way„
Mrs. McPherson was in
charge of the business. Plans
were made to attend the
World's D ay of Prayer on
March 4th at the Lucknow
United Church.
Grace was sung and a
Valentine lunch served by
Mrs, Cameron,
Plata Vallarta Hotel in the
resort city Puerto Vallarta
on the Pacific Coast of Mex-
ico. They flew there from
Toronto airport non stop and
returned again to 'Toronto
directly last Friday evening.
The return trip was com-
pleted in four hours less five
minutes. Just after midnight
they got into their ear and
drove home from Toronto,
Bob was at work at his
Ripley feed and chopping
mill before eight on Satur-
day morning, While 1* was
away Cecil Sutton 'joined
Bill, Lorne, and Don working
at the mill,
Soup for lunch
Rick Orr, son of Mr, and
Mrs, Harvey Orr, was the
lucky winner last Saturday
noon when he correctly
answered the Winghain
radio call made on the
Ripley exchange. This is the
first time in years that.a call
has been made to Ripley at
15 minutes past noon each
day, Monday to Saturday,

radio program places a call,

Family fun weekend
The second annual
February Family Fun
Weekend held last Friday
and Saturday headed by
John Gamble and sponsored
by the Ripley Huron Recrea-
tion Committee was a
wonderful success.
Everybody cooperated even
the weatherman in providing
nice sunny conditions for be-
ing outdoors.
The Ripley and District
Lions CM held its annual
skatingc rival in the arena
on Fri evening 7 to 9 p.m.
After it the Christmas tree
bonfire, a new event this
year, was held on the area
north of the Complex.
Early in January John
Gamble collected the
discarded Christmas trees
and stored them till last Fri-
day afternoon when he
brought them back into
Ripley, George vander ( Las
of William Street and son
Eric piled them into a neat
pile, Bill Robinson brought
the red Ripley fire truck
down. Shortly after nine
George vander C*las and Bill
Collins (Cone, 4) got the bon-
fire lit, It burned up for the
next hour with the smoking
drifting towards the north
end of the Complex.
At ten on Saturday morn-
ing in the auditorium at the
Complex masher chef Cecil
Sutton was in charge of the
pancake

west in Huron township.

around Ripley starting from
