Brookside wins volleyball pennants
Four area schools particip-
ated in a volleyball tourna-
ment at Brookside on Wed-
nesday, January 26.
The results were as fol-
lows: girls, Colborne 2
point, East Wawanosh 4,
Lucknow0, Brookside 6.
Boys, Colborne 2, East Wa-
wanosh 4, Lucknow 0, Brook-
side 6.
That makes two more
pennants to add to the
Brookside collection. Con
gratulations to all who took
part.
Boys intramural school hock-
ey is held at Lucknow Arena
on Wednesday afternoons.
The boys' hockey scores for
the last two weeks are as
follows: January 12, Missiles
1, Islanders 6; January 19,
Missiles 5, Shooters 5.
On Tuesday the girls went
to Ripley to play. The score
was 6 - 4 for Ripley. Donna
Raynard scored the four
Brookside goals.
Grade 8 students are doing
the weather forecast to be
broadcast on the school's
P.A. system each day at noon
as part of their science
program.
Mr. Robert Skipper, a pro-
fessional artist, who lives in
Lucknow, is teaching art at
Brookside for three weeks to
the grades 4, 7 and 8 classes.
It is an abstract art formed by
using materials such as wood
bits, pebbles, plastic toys
and shells.
Mrs. Young's grade one
class and Mrs. Carroll's class
went on a field trip to
Lucknow Post Office and Fire
Hall recently.
Mrs. Carroll's class went
on a snow hike around the
school grounds on Wednes-
day. They were looking at
snowflakes, animal tracks,
trees, etc.
Mrs. Louise Wilson, Prim-
ary Consultant, was in the
school on Friday, visiting pri-
mary classes and helping
Mrs. Jefferson's grade one
make a booklet.
Skating was held at Luck -
now Arena on January 28
from 2 - 3 for all students
who could use the opportun-
ity. All but about 60 pupils
participated in the skating.
Students and staff would
like to wish Mr. Errington a
belated Happy Birthday on
January 28.
The pre-school story hour
in the library begins on Feb-
ruary 7 at 2.30 p.m. This
story hour is for children who
will be starting kindergarten
in September. The mothers
and smaller children get
together in the staff room.

ed for the mothers on some
of the days during Story
Hour considering such topics
as Health, Learning Needs
and Speech-
The Senior Choir is prac-
tising for the spring concert.
The production this year is
H.M.S. Pinafore by Gilbert
and Sullivan. Auditions have
already started.
On Friday at noon hour
Mrs. Debbie Bauer came to
the school and showed a film
about Cystic Fibrosis. She
gave balloons to the. stud-
ents.

A funeral service and
committal were held at the
MacKenzie -McCreath
Funeral Home in Lucknow
on Sunday, January 30 at 2
p.m. The Reverend Hugh
Nugent officiated.
Pallbearers were Jim,
Wayne, Donnie Rae and
David Farrish and Bill and
Steven Walters, all grand-
sons of the late Mr. Farrish.
Flower bearers were
Douglas, Dale and Bradley
Farrish, grandsons; Chris
Fairish, great-grandson;
and Wes Dignan, SteVe
Buchanan and Peter Shelton.
Spring interment will be in
Greenhill Cemetery,
Lucknow.
Mary [Watson] McNay
Mary Adelina Proctor
Watson McNay of R. 3,
Lucknow died at Wingham
and District Hospital on
January 7, 1982, in her 80th
year.
A registered nurse, she
graduated from the Strathroy
Hospital where she nursed
until coming to Lucknow to
to private duty nursing for
Dr. W. V. Johnston. She
later worked as a telephone
operator in Lucknow and was
co-owner of the Lucknow Tea
Room with Mae Davison,
prior to her marriage.
After raising a family of six
children, she returned to part
time nursing at Wingham
and District Hospital until
her retirement.
Born at Ailsa Craig in
Middlesex County on Janu-
ary 6, 1904, she was a
daughter of the late John
Watson and Sarah Watt of
Ailsa Craig.
She married Kelso McNay
on April 14, 1938 in Toronto.
She is survived by her hus-
band, a son, Bev of Ashfield
Township, four daughters,
Joyce of Kitchener; Eleanor,
Mrs. Douglas Garbutt of
Mississauga; Helen, Mrs.
Terry Baker of Kitchener and
Evelyn of Ashfield Township
and six grandchildren. A
brother, Lorne Watson of
Parkhill, also survives.
She was pred.-ceased by a
daughter. Elaine, Mrs. Lion-
el Harvey; a brother, Harold
Watson, two half brothers.
Ralph Watson and Cliff Wat-
son and half sister, Georg-
ina. Mrs. Hugh Ross.
The funeral was conducted
from the MacKenlie and Mc-
Creath Funeral Hone in
Lucknow on January 9, 1982
at 2 p.m. Rev. Warren Mc-
Dougall of Lucknow United
Church officiated.
Flower bearers were Lloyd
Cline and Basil Hogan.
Pallbearers were Donald
MacNay, Kenneth MacNay,
Ted Cooper, Angus Cline,
Grant Farrish, James Gil-
more.
Spring burial to follow in
South Kinloss Cemetery.
Ann Jane [Conley] Wall
Ann Jane Wall of Tees -
water passed away Tuesday,
January 18, 1983 at Brucelea
Haven, Walkerton where she
had been a resident since
August 27, 1970.
She was born August 27,
1895 in Kinloss Township,
daughter of James Conley
and Ann Jane Lockhart.
On October 27, 1915, she
married Joseph H. Wall of
Culross Township. After
farming on the 8th conces-
sion of Kinloss Township for
five years, they moved to the
10th concession of Culross
Township, where they farm-
ed until retiring to Teeswater
in 1951.
She was a faithful member
of Bethany United Church
until it closed. She attended
Teeswater United Church
until going to Brucelea Hav-
en.
She is survived by three
sons, Elmer and Morley of
Teeswater, Grant of Wing -
ham and two daughters,
Verna, Mrs. Bert Shewfelt
and Cora, Mrs. Frank
Thompson, both of Kincar-
dine, 21 grandchildren and
41 great grandchildren, also
one sister, Mary, Mrs. Mark
Johnston of Lucknow.
She was predeceased by
her husband, one brother
and a sister.
The funeral service was
held at the MacPherson Fun-
eral Home, Teeswater on
January 20, 1983, conducted
by Rev. Arnold Proud. Wall, and Brian Shewfelt.
