Bantams take tournament consolation
Byanis Ilr
and Steve My
On Saturday, January 29,
the Lucknow Bantams travel-
led to Paisley to play in a
tournament.
The Bantams started out
against Sullivan Township
with fire in their breath and
the winning instinct in their
hearts. On the first shift
Chris Irwin scored a goal on a
beautiful three way play from
Gilchrist and McKim. The
remaining time in the first
period was played in the
neutral zone with no one
dominating.
The Bantams struck first
again in the second period
with a goal by Gilchrist from
McKim. The rest of the
second period was a real
shoot out with six goals being
scored. At the end of the
second the score was 5 - 3 for
Lucknow.
The third period started
out slow and turned sour for
Lucknow as Sullivan took the
play to them with two goals
in the first five minutes.
Lucknow couldn't get on
track and with 240 left on
the clock, Sullivan scorned
what proved to be the
winner.
The defense played a
sound game with Dean Lind-
say playing well in the goal.
With a feeling of leisure,
the local boys headed into
their second game against
Tara.
The first period was end to
end hockey with good chanc-
es but with no one taking
charge. Even though they
couldn't muster the strength
Lucknow had in the tint
game, we scored three goals
with Collyer scoring on a
beautiful play from Hackett
and Priestap. The second
goal was scored by Gilchrist
from Irvin and Steve Mur-
ray. With 13 seconds left,
Irwin scored from McKim
and Gilchrist.
At the break Lucknow
thought the game was won
but were soon proven wrong
as Tara scored three goals in
the first three minutes.
Although Lucknow had many
chances, regulation time
ended in a 3 - 3 tie. Brian
"Buck" Reavile saved their
skins numerous times.
The game went into a 10
minute sudden death over-
time period with shots being
counted. The Tara players
decided to surrender to the
superior Lucknow players at
58 seconds into the overtime
period. As a Tara defence -
man slid to save the puck
that was lying in the crease,
he knocked the puck into the
net. McKirr was credited
with the goal with assists
from Gilchrist and Gibson.
The 4 - 3 win advanced
Lucknow to the consolation
final against Chesley.
The Chesley game turned
out to be the most one sided
of the tournament as the
boys skated to an 8 - 0 victory
and brought home the Con-
solation Trophy again this
year.

Lucknow netminders Rea -
vie and Lindsay had a quiet
evening in sharing the shut
out. The defensive crew
suggest that superior def-
ense limited Chesley to less
than a dozen shots on goal
and only two or three serious
chances.
Team officials, Stevenson,
Gilchrist, and Gibson, would
like to pass a message to
team parents that it is a
pleasure to receive compli-
ments on the teams sports-
manship and attitude on and
off' the ice. While we realize
their potential to "ham it
up" and "put on the act",
we appreciate their timing.
