Lucknow institute hold January meeting
The January meeting of
the Lucknow Women's In-
stitute was held at the home
of Rhoda MacKenzie on
Tuesday, January 11.
Mary MacGillivray, past
president, chaired the meet-
ing in the absence of the
president. She read a poem,
A Brand New Year, and
welcomed 21 members and
four visitors.
The minutes of the last
meeting were read by the
secretary, Mrs. George
Whitby. The stationery tote
bags made from the Bruce
County Tartan were on dis-
play. These were ably made
by Mrs. William Campbell
and are to be sent to the
A.C.W.W. conference in
Vancouver.
Rhoda MacKenzie conven-
ed the program. She opened
by telling some of the history
of Robbie Burns and called
on Beth Ritchie to read a
poem, Afton Waters, which
was written by Robbie
Burns.
The motto, A new and
better world should start
with each one of us, was very
capably prepared and given
by Mrs. Cyril Brown. Mrs.
Bert Moffat and Jean Conley
delighted the ladies with
some musical numbers.
Elizabeth Robinson intro-
duced the guest speaker,
Rev. George Garratt. He
spoke on Citizenship and
World Affairs. He gave an
excellent talk and left those
in attendance much food for
thought. Mrs. Ross Shiells
thanked him and presented
him with a gift.
Rhoda thanked her com-
mittee and all who had taken
part and adjourned the meet-
ing.
