Purple Grove Bible group meets
The Purple Gave Bible
Study group started out 1983
by meeting at the home of
Christine Robertson. A large
attendance on Tuesday mor-
ning made an encouraging
start The next meeting was
hosted by Betty MacLeod.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Me -
Cosh and Gladys Arnold
recently • attended the
funeral of their aunt, Betty
Orr of Arthur.
Earl and June Elliott
visited with their Aunt Irene
Elliott at Princess Court in
Kincardine and also had sup-
per with Howard and Mar-
jori Thompson in Ripley.
aril and Wilma Sutton
and family were supper
guests of Mr. and Mrs,
Lyman Sutton in Teeswater.
Sandra Forster was
hostess for the January
meeting of the Purple Grove
Women's Institute. Janet
Rhody was the program con-
venor.
The Forsters, Donald, San-
dra, Donna Jean and
Douglas were supper guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Evan Keith
at South Kinloss on Friday
evening.
Director retire
After 15 years as director
of education John Cochrane
willAetiry from the position
effective June 30,1983.
Huron County Board of
Education chairman
Dorothy Wallace initially
made the announcement in
her inaugural address at the
board's January 10 meeting.
The board accepted with
regret Mr. Cochrane's
formal resignation letter.
"For several years I had
planned to retire at the end
of 35 years in the teaching
profession, ie. on June 30,
1984, and I can assure you
that this decision to leave
one year earlier than
planned has not been made
lightly or easily," stated Mr.
Cochrane's letter of
resignation.
Mr. Cochrane and Mrs.
Wallace pointed out Mr.
Cochrane's reason for early
retirement is based on the
changes coming to the
educational system.

1984 will see the beginning of

Ripley obituary
Lillian (Dunn! Hogben
Lillian (Dunn; Hogben,
wife of the late Stephen Hog-
ben passed away in Kincar-
dine and District Hospital
Wednesday, January 5,
1983.
She is survived by two
daughters, Joan, Mrs. Dun-
can MacLeod. Ripley and
Ann Smitth of Ottawa; also
one son, Steve of Hamilton,
eight grandchildren and nine
great gi-andchildren, A sist-
er, Jean McIntyre of Rock -
ton, also survives.
Born May 22, 1895, she
was raised in Beverly Town-
ship, Wentworth County and
recently resided with Joan
and Dunc MacLeod in Rip-
ley.
Rev. Hugh Nugent of
Knox Presbyterian Church
conducted the service Satur-
day. January 8, 1983 from
the MacKenzie and Mc-
Creath Funeral Home in Rip-
ley.
Burial followed in Wood-
land Cemetery, Hamilton.
Morley and Deanna Scott
visited on Sunday with
Clayton and Frances Watke
and family of Carrick
Township. Also a recent
visitor at the Scott's was Bet-
ty
etty Helm of Kincardine
township.
Cameron Cale and his
mother Maryse attended a
first birthday party on Satur-
day for Bradley Cale at the
home of his parents Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon Cale at Paisley.
Sunday visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Wayne Kerr and family
were Wayne's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. John Kerr of
Walkerton.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Robert-
son travelled to London on
Thursday to visit with Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Blackwell.
(Chris and Adam Hodgins
of the South Line have been
visiting with their grand-
parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Fair.
Harvie and Wilda Thomp-
son visited last Monday
evening with Mr. and Mrs.
Alex Percy of Kinlough.

who is in hospital in Rich-

Fraser and family in Maple.
