Kinlough churches observe the festive season

The Anglican eco ngrega-
tiOT al smorgasbord supper
was held m the church base-
ment on Thursday, Decem-
ber 23 at 7 p.m. All the tables
were filled and a fine time of
fellowship enjoyed by all
present. The lighted Christ-
mas tree and other dec-
tions gave a festive touch.
Rev. Philip Ruch invited
everyone to the church for
, children's cantata, Because
CBhristmas, and carol sing-
ing. The Sunday School pup-
ils, fielder the direction of
Mrs. Roy Collins and Mrs.
Allan Rhody, took their pars
wc.
Rev. Ruch ht the' Christ
Caudle as the Advent Can-
dles had been lighted the
four previous Sundays. Each
child lit his or her candle
from the Christ candle, who
is the night of the World.
The children were asked to
bring forward the white gifts
that had been brought and

New Years readings were
given by Mrs: Ross and Mrs.
J. Smith reviewed the Glad
Tidings.
The Mission study this
year is on the South Pacific
People and promises to be
very interesting as their cus-
toms and cultures are so
different to ours, With the
coming in of the outside
world, changes are taking
place. In the absence of Mrs.
Laidlaw, who prepared the
paper, Mrs. M. Henderson
read it.
Mrs. Brown dosed the
meeting with prayer. The
Literature and Library Sec-
retary, Mrs. Aitchison, dis-
played the books and re-
ceived orders. A social hour
followed.
Wins lottery
Winner of the Jamboree
'83 draw held January 5 was
Eleanor MacDonald of. Luck -
now. The lucky ticket was
drawn by Peter Beyersber-
gen at the Bank of Montreal.
Clover Valley

The second meeting of the
Clover Valley Club was held
at the home of Mrs. Charles
Wilkins on January 4.
The roll call was answered
by, Have you ever eaten any
German or Mennonite des-
erts: Home activities were
taken up and the name,
Heritage Harbingers, was
chosen for the club.
The members were divid-
ed into groups to make the
five recipes for this meeting,
the Apple Butter was already
made.
After this, the leaders dis-
cussed food and food cus-
toms from Germany. the
Netherlands, Scandinavia
and the Mennonites and
Learning to Like New Foods.
With the book work finish-
ed, the members and leaders
sat down and enjoyed the
variety of recipes: Deli Spec-
ial, Celery Soup, Potato Pan-
cakes with Apple Butter, and
Dutch Peach Kuchen.

When all had been presented
the altar was piled high and
all were given with our love
and prayers to Janet Rhody
and family to help brighten
their Christmas. Her hus-
band, Wayne, is in St. Jos-
eph's Hospital, London fol-
lowing emergency surgery.
Ron Gillespie and David
Haldenby received the offer-
ing. Edna Boyle provided the
music for the service. Rev.
Ruch closed with prayer.
Later 'the young folks
player some piano numbers
in the Sunday School morn
and the gifts arid greats were
handed out. Reuben Burnett
brought a candy gift and
cane to every child and a
most enjoyable evening was
brought to a dose.
Some attended the carol
service at Ripley on Decem-
ber 21 and the Christmas Eve
carol and communion service
at Leeknow.
Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Sut-
ton and John spent Christ-
mas with Mr. and Mrs.
Charlie Murray and family,
and on December 27, the
Sutton family were at Tees -
water with their pants.
Jean was unable to leave
Ottawa due to the ice storm
as the planes were grounded.
Word was received here on
January 4 of the death of
Lloyd Percy at a St. Cathar-
ines Hospital, January 2. He
was in his 76th year. The
funeral was held in St. Cath-
arines with burial at Kincar-
dine on January 5. We ex-
tend sympathy to his wife,
e,
Myrtle and other cousins
here. Lloyd grew up west of
the village and attended Kin -
lough School. He was the son
of the late Mr. and Mrs.
James Percy.
Ralph Haldenby of Guelph
was home during the holiday
with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. William E. Haldenby.
The Presbyterian Sunday
School Christmas concert
was held at the church and
all -eyed the entertainment
prese ted by the Sunday
pupils, under the dir-
ection of the superintendant,
Bruce Bushell and his wife.,
Barbara.
Sandra Reid and her class
presented the play, The Car-
penter's Christmas. LeAnne
Haldenby and her class gave
the Joys sof Christmas and
sang, We Three Kings.
Awards for perfect attend-
ance were presented to Don-
na and Dennis, Lyndon and
Andrew Johnstone; Lawry
Reid, Carol and Lisa Mac-
Donald and Sara Haldenby.
All enjoyed lunch in the
Sunday School room and the
Christmas gifts were given
out.
LeAnne Haldenby enjoyed
a nice holiday at her home
here and returned Monday to
London to continue her stud-
ies at Western University.
Mrs. Ronald Thacker is a
patient in Kincardine and
District Hospital. We send
get well wishes, Kay.
Congratulations to Mr.
Dan Nicholson of Luc*naw
who on Sunday celebrated
his 95th birthday with Open
House at the Anglican Parish
hall. Mrs. Don Gillespie is a
daughter.
Mr. and Mrs. Jac3L Scott of
Ripley were dinner guests
Saturday evening with Mr.
and Mrs. William MacPher-
son.
On New Years Eve the
Kinlough Pentecostal Young
People put on a banquet in
thy... fellowship hall for the
congregation. Following the
meal all went in to the church
sanctuary for the Watch
Night Service. All proceeds
went to Wing the Word.
Kairshea 4-H

The Kairshea Kultura'l
Kooks held their first meet-
ing at Ann Colwell's hone.
They elected their executive:
president, Katrina Howald;
vice president, Joanne de
Boer; secretary, Barbara
Stein; press reporter, Bev-
erley Exel; treasurer, Heath-
er Howald.
Leader for this club is Ann
Colwell and assistant leader
is Mrs. Roely de Boer. The
girls made pumpkin soup,
Irish soda bread, baked,
Maple apples, and Scotch
eggs.
