Storm - worst in a decade
The bottom dropped out of
the barometer last Thursday
and the storm described as a
winter hurricane struck
southern Ontario and parts of
the . north eastern . United
States causing death and
damage.
The barometer fell to a
record low in the 108 years
that the readings have been
logged. Hurricane': force
winds were measured at 128
kmh, nearly 80 miles an
hour, causing a blinding
blizzard that blew up within
fifteen minutes during icy
rain.
Described as a massive
collision of warm, moist air
from the Gulf of Mexico a:-'
frigid, arctic air from North
ern Ontario, Lucknow sat in
the eye of the storm • with
fluffysnow falling and drift-
ing and blowing snow in the
country.
The storm here was not as
bad as the one that hit on
Tuesday, January 10th when
you couldn't see past your
front window -pane and
everything including the
Bank of Montreal was closed.
