"MIRACLE OF -MIRACLES"
Despite advice to the contrary, I am about to commit the
".unforgiveable sin" of the news -paper business: I am going
to write an editorial. about religion. How can T avoid it? This
is, after all, the eve of one of the largest, most significant, and
most international event of the Christian world. ,
"In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus
that all the world should be enrolled...". What a humble
beginning for such a significant event! This, however, is the
way it was intended, since even the birth of Christ indicated
his "manliness" as well as his "holiness". This. man who
changed the lives of millions upon millions was born in a
simple manger.
Some say, "The world has gone to the dogs!" Well, it
hasn't' And one of the main reasons that it hasn't is- because
of this "simple" event which occurred some 1900 years ago.
The pessimism of some people concerning the future of the
world, disappoints and angers me. Why can't these people
realize that there ...still is "peace on earth and good will
towards men" (so what if it is in varying degrees!)
Some (fortunately few in numbers), say that we teenagers
are so immature and immoral that we can't possibly be
concerned about others. To them, I simply deplore their
ignorance, and implore them to look around their community
and take note of what has been done by the young people of
the area, and if nothing is immediately evident, ask one of the
young people what they have done for their town. Chances
are they have done things without credit or recognition.
So, tell me all about the problems of the world and in return
I,11 tell you how great it is. I'll also tell you that one of the
primary "resources" of its greatness was brought about in a
mean stable hundreds of years ago and hundreds of miles
away.
Christmas is the time for celebrating this "resource". To
some Christmas is celebration. To some it's the giving of
gifts. To some it is fellowship and feasting. To some it is
-togetherness and warmth. To me it is a miracle.
The entire staff of the Madill Mirror would like to offer our
sincere Best Wishes for a very Merry Christmas and joyous
and prosperous New Year. We would like to offer this
Christmas prayer as our gift to you our readers.
Dear Lord,
As Christmas time draws nearer,
May people in every land,
Peel the love and warmth and hope,
Which is given by your hand.
