Ripley Minor Hockey

The Atom "B" team
° played Highland Taxi in
Ripley, and suffered a 5-1
loss. Bruce Sumner
scored the lone Ripley
goal from David Cook
and Jeffery Verbeek.
Better luck next time,
guys.
The Pee Wee "A"s
hosted Teeswater to a
high scoring. game, but
were on the wrong end of
the 9-6 score. Titch
Twolan and Paul Keelan
each' scored twice with
Danny Wood andShawn
'Morrison getting . single
tallies, Todd Walden, a
Randy Collins and Paul
Harris made the assists.
In Pee Wee "B" action,
the Kincardine Kiltie
squad defeated them 4-1,
`with John 'Forster from
Bob Blackwell and Brian
Barnes doing the scoring.
They next had a hard
fought game against
Forbes, Market, Greg
Dahmer, from Amdrew
Birnie scored the opening
marker, and then Forbes.
Mike Nicholson, Jeff
Elliott and Greg Dahmer
combined for the next
goal, but Forbes again
tied it up.
The Bantam squad
playedthree games,
defeating Tiverton in the
first 9-6. Kevin Boyle
made the hat trick, Ian
Elliott and Ross Stewart
scored twice, and. Jeff
Stanley scored a single
goal. Terry Irwin and
Harold Peet made
assists. In Mildmay, it
was Ripley 6, Mildmay 1.
Ross Stewart scored two
goals, with Harold. Peet,
Terry Irwin Kevin Boyle
and Mervin Storey each
scored . once. Dave
Murray, Ian Elliott, Paul
Irwin, Eric Vander Glas,
David Gamble and Gary
Rutledge made assists.
That's really spreading
the action around. The
other helpful team
members are Camille
Poirer, Kenny Elliott and
Scott MacLean.
At home against
Teeswater, they let the
visitors have the first
goal, then Mervin Storey,
from David Gamble and
Eric Vander Glasopened
the second period for
Ripley. Twenty seconds
later, Ian Elliott com-
bined with Terry Irwin
and KeVin Boyle to take
the lead. A minute later
Teeswater scored to
make a tie. Another
minute, and Terry Irwin,
from Kevin Boyle and
Paul Irwin, scored the
winner. Four goals in
three minutes!
The Lucknow Midgets
proved not too generous
visitors, defeating the
home team $-l. Rick
Irwin scored Ripley's
lone tally .frorn Murray
Coiling - and Jeff
MacTavish.
The Ripley, Minor
Hockey Association

The Ripley Atom "A"
team played in
Teeswater, defeating the
home team 5-3. Jeff
Gamble, from Darryl
Verbeek, opened the
scoring, with Teeswater
tieing it up a minute
later. Teeswater went
ahead with 3 minutes to
go in the second -period,
but Ripley scored twice
before the bell rang, Jeff
Godfrey from Todd
Farrell, and Clint Twolan
unassisted. Jeff Godfrey
made the insurance
marker, and then Clint
Twolan and Todd Farrell
combined for - , Ripley's
last goal. Teeswater
scored last. The next
night they hosted
Lucknow, but two nights
in a row must have
proved too much, 'as
Lucknow won 2-0. • -
In Pee Wee "A" action,
Teeswater really put a
hex on the Ripley team,
fefeating, them 13-4.
Danny Wood, assisted by
Shawn Morrison, and
Mitch :Twolan, assisted
by Robert Campbell,
scored in the first period,
while Eddie Moore and
Paul Keelan beat the
Teeswater goalie
unassisted in the second.
• The next night at home
was an exciting 8-7 vic-
tory over Mildmay. Mitch
Twolan and Paul Keelan
each scored the hat trick,
and Shawn Morrison
scored twice. The assists
were spread around
among Eddie Moore,
Robert Campbell, Danny
Wood, Paul Harris, Todd
Walden and Randy
Collins.
The Pee Wee "B"
squad had a one and one
average this week.
Haughs defeated them' 7-
3, and • Ripley
outscored Broadway 1-0.
John Forster made that
lone goal. unassisted. In
the Haugh game, it was
Mike Nicholson
unassisted, Brian Barnes
from John Forster,,,... and
Ross Farrell from
Andrew Birnie.
. The now on Sunday
forced.the cancellation of
two games, the Juvenile
girls and Juvenile boys.
The' boys, howeveri-
received their new
sweaters from the Pt.
Clark Kinsmen. Pretty
sharp!
Ripley W.M.S.
The annual meeting of
Knox Church W.M.S. in
Ripley was held at the
home of Mrs. Donnie
MacDonald on Tuesday
afternoon .with 15
members and three
visitors. In the absence of
the secretary Violet
Martyn, who was ill the
chair was taken by
Adeline Hackett. Mrs.
Ross Cumming opened
the meeting with the
"Call to Worship," the
Lords' prayer repeated in
unison and words of
welcome to all.
Being the Christmas
meeting -the roll call was
answered with . a
"Christmas Thought"
and a "White Gift" to be
sent to the "Salvation
Army" in Wingham. The
minutes of the 1977
Annual Meeting were
read and approved. The
scripture was read . by
.Mary R. MacDonald. The
committee Mrs. Donnie
MacDonald; Mrs. Norval
Stewart and Mrs. Effie
Sutherland read articles
from the 1977.Glad
Tidings regarding the
way Christmas is
celebrated indifferent
countries like Africa,
Japan, and Argentine.
Effie closed her reading
with a prayer.
Each secretary read
her annual report. The
slate of officers for 1979
was read by Adeline
Hackett and installed by
Mrs. Nugent, who had the
"Installation Service"
typed for each one to read
in unison. A letter of
appreciation from
"Uncle John" for a box
sent to him to help in his
work with un-
derprivileged -'-children -at-
"Alberta Beach" near
Edmonton was read by
Amelia Cumming.
Also a letter regardine
the "Dock Project," the
turning of the sod, and the
beginning of a new dining
hall and septicsystem
was read and it was
decided to send a
donation for same from
the group.
Plans were made for
remembering the "Shut -
Ins at -Christmas and
boxes are to be packed on
Thursday afternoon at
Donalda Gossels'. A card
was signed by all present
and sent to Martha
Huston who is receiving
treatments in London.
Courtesies were ex-
pressed by Donalda
Gossel. Grace was sung
and a delicious lunch
served by the committee
and a social time spent.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Dore
spent Saturday evening
with Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
Johnston of Bernie.
Mr. and Mrs. Don
Forester visited Sunday
with Kathy Forester who
is training as a member
of the Canadian Forces in
Nova Scotia. The family
all met at Jamie
Forester's.
Mr. and Mrs. Norval
Stanley visited with Mr.
and Mrs. Morley Scott
Friday evening.

McKinnon of Tiverton
visited Friday afternoon
with Mr. and Mrs. 13en
Scott.

brother Mr. and Mrs. Roy

the Day Care Centre.
