Lucknow U.C.W. units hold Christrnas meetings
LUCKNOW U.C.W UNIT 1
The December meeting of
Lucknow U.C.W. Unit 1 was
held at the home of Mrs.
Shirley Bolt. Mrs. Havens
welcomed everyone and op-
ened with a Christmas read-
ing.
A card of thanks from Mrs.
Ritchie was read and Mrs.
Raynard expressed her
thanks for the gift given to
them on their SOth wedding
anniversary. Mrs. Edith
Webster, reporting for Citiz-
enship and Social Action
gave a reading on Prayer.
Mrs. Edna MacDonald,
Stewardship, and,Mrs_ Olive
Irwin, Program, reported on
their year's activities. Con-
veners were reminded about
getting their reports to exec-
utive as soon as possible.
It was announced that the
general annual meeting
would begin with a pot luck
supper at the church on Dec-
ember 14th. Members were
given 'a questionnaire about'
joint meetings in 1979. It was
decided to hold the January
1979 meeting on January 2nrd
at the church. Mrs. Havens

and welcomed Mrs. Bolt's
mother, Mrs. Loth, to the
meeting.
Mrs. Vi Arnold took
charge of the meeting for the
following program. Mrs. Ar-
nold gave a reading and read
the scripture. Mrs. Edna
MacDonald read the medita-
tion, a story about Jesus and
his family life, ending with a
poem. Mrs. Eunice Duns-
muir had a prayer'. We enjoy-
ed a piano selection by Mrs.
Mary MacGillivray and a solo
by Eunce Dunsmuir. Mrs.
Arnold closed the meeting
with a poem. ,A contest was
enjoyed while the committee
prepared a delicious Christ-
mas lunch.
UNIT 2 U.C.W.
The December meeting of,
Unit 2 was held at the home
of Mrs. Glen Walden. .
Mrs. Grace Gibson opened
the meeting with a poem.
The November minutes were
read and approved. The
treasurer's report was given
by Mrs. A. Ritchie. Mrs. W.
G. Hunter reported on wel-
fare.

The clothing, which had'
been taken to the church,
was sorted, and sent to
places where needed.
The quilt, donated by Mrs.
Zetta Henderson, was dis-
played, and anyone wishing
to see, it may do so at Mrs.
W. G', Hunter's.
Mrs. Janet Drennan, for
Citizenship and Social Ac-
tion, read an article on the
rioting in Korea. Mrs. Kirk-
land reported on Christian
and Missionary Education.
Mrs. Eldon Ritchie read an
article for Stewardship on
"Time". Miss Ada Webster
gave a._report for the year on
Community Friendship and
Visitation.
The offering was taken by
Mrs. Walden and dedicated
by Mrs. Gibson.
It was moved by Mrs.
Drennan and seconded by
Mrs. Greta Johnston that the
January meeting would be
held on January 8. The
annual meeting will take the
form of a pot luck supper,
January 14. Everyone was
asked to have their reports at
this meeting.
Mrs. Gibson, thanked the
hostess and then turned, the
meeting over to the commit-
tee with Mrs. W. G. Hunter
as conyener.
Mrs. Greta Johnston pres-
ided at the organ for hymns.
The scripture was read by.
Mrs. Mamie Henderson. The
meditation , "What makes
Christmas" was given by
Mrs. Chas. MacDonald.
"Christmas Music" was
read by Mrs. Grace Gibson.
Miss Ada Webster read
"The Gift of the Wise Men".
Mrs. Kirkland read "The
Spirit of Christmas". Mrs.
Barger read, "The Christ-
mas Spirit". An instrumental
ST. HELENS W.I.
The Christmas - meeting of
St. Helens Women's Insti-
tute was held in the hall on
December 7th.
The president, Mrs. Muri-
el Curran, welcomed a good
attendance.
The roll call was "A
Christman Scripture verse",
and "a card for the secretary
to send to shut ins".
Mrs. Peter Chandler intro-
duced the gpest speaker,
Rev. Roberts of Belgrave. He
spoke on "The Real Meaning
of Christmas".
Mrs. Muriel Curran re-
ported on the London Area
Convention she attended in
November.
Mrs. Ernest Gaunt intro-
duced Mrs. Ford Cunning-
ham. She gave an intere`sting
talk on her hobby "China
Painting" and had a lovely
display for the ladies to see.
Mrs. Peter Chandler gave
a reading on "Grandma's
Wonderland".
"Mistletoe and Holly"
was read by Mrs. Hilliard
Jefferson.
Humorous jokes were en-
joyed from ladies with the
initial -E and S. 0
Mrs. Gordon McPherson
presented gifts to Mrs. Gor-
don Struthers and Mrs. ElSie
Webb. Mrs. Peter Chandler
called on Mrs. Andrew
Gaunt at her home. These
ladies have moved from our
Institute and will be missed
very much.
An exchange of Christmas
gifts was enjoyed.
Mrs. Harold Gaunt, Mrs.
Ernest Snowden, and Mrs.
Milliard Jefferson served a
delicious lunch.
was given by Misses Ruth
and Grace Alton.
Mrs. Gibson closed the
meeting with prayer.
U.C.W. UNIT #3
Unit #3 met at the home of
Mrs. Ross Shiells on Decem-
ber Sth. Mrs. Cook welcomed
everyone and thanked Mrs.
Shiells for being the hostess.
Mrs. Cook opened with a
poem. A prayer by Mrs.
Cook followed.
Mrs. Grace Campbell gave
the origin of 3 of our
Christmas Carols, "0 Little
Town of Bethlehem", "As
With Gladness Men of Old",
and "Joy To The World",
and the ladies sang a few
verses of each carol. Mrs.
Robert Irwin gave a reading.
Mrs. Symon de Boer sang
"Silent Night", in both Eng-
lish and Dutch. accompanied
by Mrs. Rice on the piano.
Mrs. Ross Shiells gave the
Christmas message, "What
is Born at Christmas?". Mrs.
Cook thanked Mrs. Shiells
and the committee, Mrs.
Walter Pollock, Mrs. S. de
Boer and Mrs. Wraith for the
Christmas program they had
prepared.
The closing hymn was
sung, followed by Mrs. Cook
reading, "A Prayer at Christ-
mas". Grace was sung and a
visit was enjoyed over a cup
of tea.
LUCKNOW W.M.S.
The annual meeting of the
W.M.S. of the Lucknow
Presbyterian Church was
held on Wednesday, Dec-
ember 6th in Mrs. Morgan
Henderson's home. The
Christmas program in the
Glad Tidings was followed.
Mrs. J: Little presided and
those taking part were Mrs.
Crowston, Mrs. R. MacDon-
ald, Mrs. Henderson, Mrs.
Jessie Johnston.
Following the 'reading of
the minutes, a letter from the
Sentinel regarding news it-
ems was read.
Mrs. Porteous gave the
offertory prayer. A Vesper
Service in the Presbyterian.
Church Sunday evening,
December 10th Was announ-
ced. Mrs. A. Loree gave a
reading, Christmas Legend.
Mrs. Laidlaw read a poem,
The Priceless Gift.
The nominating committee
read their report, which was
as follows: president, Mrs.
M. Henderson; 1st vice,
Mrs. O. Brooks; 2nd vice,
Mrs. J. Little; 3rd vice, Mrs.
A. Loree; treasurer, Mrs. J.
Adams; secretary, Mrs. K.
Laidlaw; Friendship and Ser-
vice, Mrs. M. Henderson;
Supply, Mrs. W. Porteous;
Life Membership, Mrs.
Johnston; Glad Tidings,
Mrs. W. Stanley; Pianist, N.
Malcolm; Literature & Lib-
rary, Mrs. R. MacDonald;
Social, Mrs. Little, Mrs.
Stanley, Mrs. Crowston,
Mrs. R. MacDonald.
Mrs. P. Stewart conducted
the installation of the officers
on the new executive. -
Mrs. M. Henderson and
Mrs. N. Johnston each read a
meditation. Mrs. P. Stewart
closed the meeting with
prayer.
The hostess, aided by the
social: committee, served tea
and a social hour brought the
last meeting of the year to a
close.
