BY. MARION McCHARLES
Winter has finally arrived
and with it snow and slippery
roads, Once again ,the snow
plows with their flashing
blue lights are seen frequent-
ly, and Sunday brought the
first ice storm of the winter.
In an old book, 1883, direc-
tions are found for such as
Bronze Work, China Paint-
ing, Japanese embroidery,
Needlework, Macrame, care
and culture of plants, Flower
arranging and Ribbon Flow-
ers, among dozens of other
crafts, one being Decalom-
anie. This is the transferring
of a design such as may be
found on post cards or
calendars to such items as
crockery, china, porcelain
and glass. Materials needed
are cement, copal, varnish,
cluck quill, sable and a flat
camel hair brush. All these
crafts are thought to be new
but according to the old book
"Treasut*", printed in
1883, were very much in
vogue.
. Perhaps during the
months ahead we can do
some of these crafts also
included in the same book,
Geographical and Pictorial
pictures - History of Canada.
In Ontario in 1821 there were
122,716 inhabitants.
Thanks to those who are
co-operating in calling in the
news of the locality.
Mr. Walter Dexter has
returned home from hospital
in London. The Dexters were
long time residents of this
area, Walter's father having
had a blacksmith shop.
Mrs. Tillie Smith, another
•
former resident of this area, I
is a patient in Kincardine
Hospital,
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bradley
are proud to announce the
birth of a grandson, born to
Maureen and David Thomas

Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Mac-
Lennan spent the past week-
end in London with daughter
Peggie and her husband Ted.
Mr. Finlay MacLennan also
visited in the same home.
The MacLennans also visited
with Miss Katie Sutherland,
who has been under the
doctors care.
Of course everyone watch-
ed the hockey game Saturday
evening to see David Farrish
in action. Duncan and Peggy
Farrish journeyed to Toronto
where they saw the game
and visited with son David of
the New York Rangers.
Mrs. Wellington Webster
spent the weekend in Kit-
chener with son Jim.
Perhaps this Christmas
season would be a good time
to remember the words of the
unknown author who wrote
DO IT NOW
If you have kind words to
say, say them now,
Tomorrow may not come
your way.
Do . a kindness while you
may,
Loved ones will ,not always
stay, say them now.
If you have some song to
sing, sing it now,
Let the tones of gladness
ring,
Clear as song of bird in
spring,
Let each day some music
bring, sing it now.
