Monday evening of this
week with president Jack
Farrell in charge.
Two weeks ago when
Mr. and Mrs. Grant'
MacLennan of Listowel
were visiting his sister
Mrs. Norma MacLennan,
they brought along a
section of the October
25th edition of the
Listowel Banner weekly
newspaper. It contained
the obituary–account of
Clayton Bell who died in
the Listowel Memorial
Hospital on October 19th.
Some years ago he had
returned from the cheese
and dairy industry in
Listowel. He was a native
of Pine River. This
family of two daughters
and 'seven boys grew up
in the Pine River area
and it is recalled here
that four of these
brothers were in the
Canadian Army fighting
in France in the First
World War. Each year as
Legion secretary Sandy
MacCharles reads the list
at the Cenotaph in front of
Huron township hall he
starts with Clifton Bell
followed by Norval Bell
and there are some
standing in remem-
berance here who recall
that the two brothers died
on the same day on the
Western Front.
