HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1978-11-22, Page 15Lochalsh Bill Finlayson of Goderich, former native of Lochalsh, recently received a transfer and promotion in the Bank of Montreal-- where he has been on staff for a number of years. Bill is now* the manager of the Montreal bank in Sarnia. In November he was transferred from Goderich. Bill is the son of Mrs. Gordon Finlayson and the late Gordon Finlayson of Lochalsh where he grew up. Hi' wife is the former Judy MacKay, daughter of Allister and Pearl MacKay of the Sixth Concession east in Huron township. Both Judy and Bill are graduates of the Ripley District High School and they have two children John and Janine. Bill started his banking career in the Bank of Montreal in Lucknow, next move to Teeswater, then to Goderich, and now to Sarnia. Last Friday evening a well attended benefit dance was held in the Ripley Huron Community Complex in aid of Mr. and Mrs. John Emmerton who lost their newly renovated home and its contents by fire the week before, Their home was at the Emmerton beach at the foot of the Sixth concession of Huron township -known as. Emmerton Beach just south of Bruce Beach. Glenn Boyd's orchestra played for the dance. The November meeting of the Ripley A'gricultural society postponed from a week ago was held on native transferred to Sarnia Monday evening of this week with president Jack Farrell in charge. Two weeks ago when Mr. and Mrs. Grant' MacLennan of Listowel were visiting his sister Mrs. Norma MacLennan, they brought along a section of the October 25th edition of the Listowel Banner weekly newspaper. It contained the obituary–account of Clayton Bell who died in the Listowel Memorial Hospital on October 19th. Some years ago he had returned from the cheese and dairy industry in Listowel. He was a native of Pine River. This family of two daughters and 'seven boys grew up in the Pine River area and it is recalled here that four of these brothers were in the Canadian Army fighting in France in the First World War. Each year as Legion secretary Sandy MacCharles reads the list at the Cenotaph in front of Huron township hall he starts with Clifton Bell followed by Norval Bell and there are some standing in remem- berance here who recall that the two brothers died on the same day on the Western Front. •The late L. McGillivray of Ripley on the arrival of their daughter, Kristy Eunice, born at. Kin- cardine Hospital on Thurs., Nov. 16, a sister for Kelly Katherine. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Burton Collins. Miss Kerry Bouyle has returned home from Moose Creek, Ontario, having 'completed two months working with a French family on their farnr. Kerry, Corrine and. Kevin Boyle spent the week end in London with their sister, Bonnie, and on Friday night attended the London-Windtor hockey game. Their cousin, Brent Armstrong was one of the Windsor players, Mr. Lyman Sutton of Teeswater visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Sutton and family. Mr. ...nd Mrs. David Keith of Teeswater were recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Ben Scott. Mrs. Clayton Watke and girls of Carlsruhe spent Saturday with Mrs. Watke's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Scott. Mrs. Norval Stanley visited with her Mother, Mrs. Blue, in Wiarton on Thursday and on Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Art. Helm, Kelly and Jorey of Tiverton were guests of -Mr. and Mrs. Stanley. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Farrell visited in Toronto and London during the week and attended the Royal Winter Fair when in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Courtney McDonald and Miss Janice Farrell of London were week -end guests with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Farrell. ' Friends of Mrs. Douglas McDonald will be pleased to learn that she has returned home from hospital in Wingham where she had been a patient the past two weeks. A relative shower was held on Sunday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Ian McDonald, Ripley-, for Mrs. John Emmerton, who lost her home by fire recently. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Craigie of Kincardine visited with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Gawley on Sun. ay. Fairview Cemetery, Listowel. Mrs. Isabel Love. of Ripley -is -a -patient x Mrs. Isabel Love of Ripley is a patient in Kincardine and District hospital this past week undergoing' treatment. At the end of November Hamilton MacKinnon is retiring from the position of caretaker of the Huron Township hall in Ripley. Ham has served in this position for the past 21 years. During those years he has done a good job in looking after the building. Always he has been helpful and kind to the public using the township hall and he will be missed. Barbara Grubb visited at home last week end with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Grubb and family. Barb is at Western University up on the Hill in London.
