HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1978-11-22, Page 13The Lancers met a strong
skating Mildmay team on
Friday in Mildmay.
The opponents opened• the
scoring, but Ross Forster
evened the score on a short
handed effort. Mildmay then
scored twice before Ian
Mohtgomery and `Raoul"
MacKenzie tied the game at
three a piece.
Brian Yahbee then scored
for Mildmay to give them the
lead 4 - 3, at the end of the
first period.
In the second, Lucknow
outscored Mildmay 4 - 3, but
there were two goals scored,
which had the Lucknow boys
incensed at the referees and
the goal judge.
Mildmay went ahead 5 - 3
on a goal that hit the post and
bounced to centre ice.
Carl Stanley scored two
goals both on power plays
and Dave MacKinnon tallied
on another power play.
Rookie Rod Simpson be-
came the victim of a deliber-
4,
"ate attempt to even the
score, by the gentlemenwhe
wear .the black and white
shirts. A penalty shot .was,
awarded and as luck would
have it they scored to tie the
game,
"Monty" Montgomery put
Lucknow ahead 7 - 6, but
Mildmay tied the game again
at the end of two periods of
play.
The two teams played tight
defense in the third period
and did some close checking.
Pete Chisholm and Charles
Schmalz took roughing pen-
alties with five minutes left
in the game. Both teams
enjoyed good scoring oppor-
tunities but neither dented
the net.
Chisholm and Schmalz
crossed, again, with 46 sec-
onds left in the game, and
Pete went tothe penalty box
for cross-checking..
Ian Montgomery and Doug
Stevenson were sent over the
boards to hold off Mildmay
andkeep the tie score.
For seine reason 'Doug
forgot about playing defense
and had the nerve to steal the
puck from Mildmay, With
lan's help, he drilled a shot
past the Mildmay goalie, to
give Lucknow an 8 7 lead,
which they hung onto to win
the game. •
LOSE TO MILDMAY
On Sunday, in Lucknow,
the local lads started fast,
but ran out of energy.
Doug Stevenson opened
the scoring and Ian Mont-
gomery made it 2 - 0.
Mildmay scored before the
end of the first, leaving the
score 2 - 1 at the end of
period one.
The rest of the game was
all Mildmay.
They scored five goals in
the second to take a com-
manding 6 - 2 lead.
In the third Lucknow got
one back, as Ian Montgom-
ery got his second goal of the
night in a losing effort.

This was a tough game to
lose because it will now be a
dog fight to finish in a good
play off position.
PEEWEE HOCKEY
The Peewee hockeyteam
has started the 78.79 season
with Wayne Jerome as man-
ager and James Montgomery
as coach. With several boys
moving up from Atoms this
year there is no shortage of
players.
In the first game of the
year which was played in
Teeswater the score was 8 -
3 in favour of Teeswater. On
Friday night, Teeswater
came to Lucknow for a return
game and for a while Luck -
now held it to a tie and even
got ahead. After some play-
ers had to go to the penalty
box, Teeswater was able • to
get two more goals and the
final score was 4 - 2 for
Teeswater.
Jamie Bere got the two
goals for Lucknow.
