Horticultural banquet Births
118 members and friends of the Horticul-
tural Society attended their annual banquet
in the Legion Hall on Wednesday evening,
November 8. While the guests _ were
assembling, Mrs. Harvey Webster enter-
tained with piano selections.
The ladies of the Anglican Church
catered to the dinner and were thanked by
Dr. R. B. Treleaven.
Roy Bennett of CKNX staff in Wingham
was the guest speaker. He gave an
interesting talk on the care and cultivation
of roses and showed slides to illustrate.
A small token of appreciation was '
presented to him by Mrs. James O'Don-
nell.
The president, Mrs. J. MacDonald, took
Atom hockey
The Atoms broke training
camp Friday on a winning
trend to begin the 78-79
season. The exhibition circuit
included five games in which
the boys recorded 1 win, 3
ties and 1 loss.
Twenty-three boys are
signed for the season which
begins against Mildmay on
Monday, November 13..
There were no contract prob-
lems.
Coach Murray and the
boys have promised good
charge of the business part of the meeting.
Mrs. Gordon Kirkland reported on the
year's activities and Mrs. Alex Andrew
gave the financial statement.
The nominating committee announced
the slate of officers: Past President, Mrs.
Harvey Mole; President, Mrs. Jack
MacDonald; 1st Vice President, Mrs.
Garnet Henderson; 2nd Vice President,
Mrs. Ford Cunningham; Treasurer, Mrs.
Alex Andrew; Secretary, Mrs. Gordon
Kirkland;Cheerio Committee, Mrs.
/George Jardine; Pianists, Mrs. Harvey
Webster and Mrs. Stuart MacGillivray;
Membership Committee, Miss Ada Web-
ster, Mrs. Greta Johnston, and Mrs.
Wilbur Brown.
