Cemetery. He Is survived
by his wife, one daughter
Helen,. Mrs. Allan Irwin
sof Ripley, and two sons
Clarence and Alvin, also
grandchildren and one
sister. Sympathy is ex-
tended to all these.

pre -Christmas gathering
at their home in Ripley on
Saturday Nov. 11. Those
present were Dr. and

Mrs. Dale Wood from
Georgetown, Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Biernes,
Douglas, Randy, and

Mr. Garry MacDonald
from Point Clark, Mrs.
Frances Gillies, Mr. and
Mrs. Donald Gillies of
Ripley.'
Mr. and Mrs. Grant
MacLennan of Listowel
visited last week with his
sister Mrs. Norma
MacLennan.
Mrs. Katherine Collins
of Purple Grove returned
home last Thursday and
Mrs. Isabel Wylds of the
sixth concession west
from University Hospital
in London last Sunday.
Three times last week
the Ripley fire alarm
sounded. On Wednesday
evening the firemen were
called to the Emmerton
Beach where fire com-
pletely destroyed the
newly renovated home of
Mr. and Mrs. John
Emmerton. The flames
at one time were reported
seen by people two blocks
west of Ripley. Kin-
cardine Firemen were
called in and together
they worked to finally put
down the flames which
had spread to the home of
John's brother -Bert
Emmerton. The end of
Bert's home was burned.
On Sautrday night Ripley
fire siren again sounded
and this time it was the
house owned by Dominic
Gross of Waterloo and
situated in the west part
of Amberley. It was
burned down and the
Lucknow firemen were
called to save the new
McNay home across the
road from starting on
fire. On Sunday afternoon
the Ripley firemen were
called to put out a fire on
a vacant lot on Campbell
Street in Point Clark.
Mr. and Mrs. Don
McCosh have left to
spend a couple of weeks
with friends in California.
Mr. and Mrs. Eldon
Merner and Mrs. jean
Blackwell of London were
up to Ripley to visit Mrs.
Annie Scott also to attend
Mr. Wi freci Cearsons
a
funeral.
A successful bazaar
was held , . the
Presbyterian Church on
Saturday.
Mrs. Farquhar'
McDonald and family of
Brampton were in Ripley
Over the weekend visiting
with her families.
ST. ANDREWS U.C.W.
Citizenship was the
topic of chief discussion
when Unit 2, U.C.W. met
on Nov. 7th at Huronvilla
Lounge. Mrs. Olive
Vogan had hoped to lead
the discussions but was
still in Hospital, so Mrs.
Wm. Arnold substituted
for her.
Each member had
clippings taken from
recent dailies or weeklies
dealing with subjects of
interest to us all as
citizens and which caused
lively discussions on
topics as -teaching morals
in school, opening of
more alcoholic outlets
and suggested serving it
on buses, air pollution,
abuse of retarded in
Homes, homes for
disturbed teen-agers, and
Federal Constitution
reform.
Mrs. Ralph Hunter told
of a woman in Korea who
was imprisoned for 10
years for the crime of
feeding hungry men who
were termed Com-
munists and how she
became a Christian in
prison. Mrs. John
Langley, told of a building
in Yellowknife known as
Northern United Place.
The idea for this special
type of building was
initiated by the United
Church but it serves all
segments of peoples and
ages and needs including
worship services for two
denominations. •
Mrs. Lyla Tranter
conducted the Worship
service assisted by Mrs.
Frances Elliott and Mrs.
Gladys Mason. It
followed the theme of
Remembrance and
Liberty. Mrs. Bert Irwin
played for the hyfnns.
Unit 2 will be in charge of
program for the Annual
meeting on November 21.
A report was given of the
bazaar held recently.
Lunch was served to 14
members by the hostess,
Mrs. Minnie Henry
assisted by Mrs. Charles
Liddle and Mrs. Don
Peterbaugh. Mrs. Arnold
closed the meeting with
prayer.
