Honour ,war dead at Huron township hall
The people . of, the
Ripley. Huron area
gathered along the'
sidewalks in front of the
Huron township hall for
the annual Remem-
brance Day service last
Saturday morning and
formed a fair attendance.
Although the sky was
grey, no rain fell and it
was dry underfoot.
Caretaker Hamilton
MacKinnon was over
early to open, the town-
ship hall doors and had
the lawn at the Cenotaph
cleared.,Next was Bill
McCreatbringing the
wreaths. over from the
Legion Hall and lining
these up inside the
sidewalk, then Don and
Annie Mason of Kin-
cardine drove up the
Eighth road and Don got
busy setting up his Public
Address system in the
front of the hall with the
mike at the base of the
front steps. Qver a couple
of blocks at the Legion
Point
hall could be heard the
playing of the bagpipes
bringing back memories
of the late Roy
MacKenzie. Soon the
parade from the Legion
Hall coming down the
main street rounded the
bank corner led by piper
Larry Needham and
marshalled by Russ
Stanley. First were the
Legion members and
auxiliary with colour
bearers Bill Tranter, Bob
Love, Barbara Paquette,

and Nadine Danforth
followed by the Scouts,
Cubs, Guides, Brownies,
and Beavers with their
leaders. The usual circle
was formed around the
Cenotaph and Legion
marshall Russ Stanley
brought the parade, to a
halt. M,C. Bill McCreath
at the mike called on Rev.
Hugh Nugent who opened
the services reading two
passages from the Bible.
Then Rev. Jim Bushell
gave the prayer of
Remembrance. Next the
Legion Secretary Sandy
MacCharles read the
names of those who died
in the world wars. This
was followed by the
placing of the' wreaths at
the Cenotaph under the
direction . of M.C. Bill
McCreath at the mike.

MacDonald, Harry
Crellin, Rod MacDonald,
Mrs. Minnie. Lock, Lloyd
Wylds, Mrs. Bea Collins
for the Auxiliary, and
Dick Edmiston for the
Legion. The wreaths
were placed for the
Province of Ontario, the
township of Huron., the
village of Ripley, the
Reid's corners W.I., the
Purple Grove W.I. the
Ripley W.I., the Ripley
Royal Bank, the Scouts,
cubs, Guides, Brownies,
Beavers, the Legion
Auxiliary, and the Ripley
Huron Legion Branch 440.
This was followed by the
Last Post, two ''Minute
silence, arid' the 'Reveille.
Rev. Hugh Nugent
pronounced the.

attending the above
service left directly for
Owen Sound to visit their
daughter Carol, Mrs,
John Halliday, for the
weekend.
On Tuesday of last
week, Nov. 7, Ivan
Pollock of Ripley passed
away in Victoria Hospital
in London. For the past
several weeks Ivan was
in the intensive care unit
of the hospital as the
struggle to save him from
the deadly tetanus in-
fection took- place.
Everydne in this area
who knew Ivan was
hoping that he would
'make it. Sympathy at this
time of'bereavernentgoes
to his two daughters
Shirley and Kay, both -of
London and to his son
Ronald here at home, as.
well as the grandchildren
and to his brother Elwyn
of Ripley. He was
predeceased by his wives
Velma Stanley and Alice
Wall, also . by his son
Darwin who was killed a
few years ago when his
tractor was struck by a
car on concession 8, two
blocks west of Ripley.
Native of the 12th con-
cession, Huron township,
and son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Sam Pollock,
Iuannivas born on October
20, 1908 and attended
number 3 school on the
.15th and Ripley Con-
tinuation School starting
in 1923, and then took a
course at O.A.C., Guelph
before returning to farm
here. Ivan will be missed
in this community both at
Ripley Post office and in
the northeast section of
Huron township which he
served as rural mail
carrier for R.R. 3 and at
the Ripley , cemetery
where he was the
caretaker. A class mate
of this writer, it was
alwaysnice to chat with
Ivan when on the way to
the nearby bee yard and
he was working in the
cemetery. The funeral
service was held last
Friday afternoon, Nov. 10
at the MacKenzie
McCreath Home in
Ripley followed by in-
terment in the familyplot
in the Ripley cemetery
with Rev. Jim Bushell of
St. Andrews United
Church here in charge of
the service.
The funeral service for
Mrs. Wesley Robb, - the
former Jennie McNain,
was held last Saturday
aftrernoon at the
MacKenzie McCreath ..
Home in Ripley with Rev.
Bob Putman of Reid's
corners in charge. Mrs.
Robb passed away last
Wednesday in Brucelea
Haven, Walkerton, in her
85th year. She was born in
Ashfield township.
Interment was in Ripley
Cemetery. She is sur-
vived by one, son-J.S.
Robb, Con. 2 west ins,
Huron township and three
daughters- Gwendolyn,
Mrs. Bert Osborne of
Trout Creek; Marion,
Mrs. Vernon Hodgins of
Bervie, and Katherine,
Mrs. Robert Campbell
also of the second con-
cession west,, :.anal
grandchildren. To all
these sympathy is ex-
tended at this time ; pf
bereavement.
Wilfred Cerson of
Ripley and Bervie passed
away last week in his 85th
year in Victoria Hospital,
London. The funeral
service was held last
