7th, Peter Kidd of New
Zealand came to the school to
talk to the Grade 8 students
about his homeland and its
customs. Mr, Kidd• is a
delegate of the Federation of
Young Farmer's Club,
known here as Junior Farm-
ers. He was at the Irvin's
Brooklands Farms as part of
his trip to visit farms around
the world.
Jeff Fillmore, a Grade 8
student at Brookside, has
been working as a page at
the Ontario Legislature,
Queen's Park, Toronto, for
about four weeks and will
soon be coming home. The
Grade 8 class is planning to
take a trip to the • Royal
Ontario Museum and to the
Legislature on Tuesday, Nov-
ember 14, while Jeff is still
there.
A few weeks ago the
Student's Council sponsored
a sale of chocolate bars for
Hallowe'en from which they
realized about $550.00.
Rev. G. Garratt, chaplain
of the Lucknow Legion, was
the guest speaker for the
Remembrance Day service at
Brookside School on Friday.
Mrs. Wilson played the
piano for the singing of "O
Canada" after which Donna
Freeman read a passage
from the Bible. Elizabeth
Jefferson gave a reading,
which explained the meaning
and symbolism of the poppy
on Remembrance Day. Mr.
Hazlitt's Grade 6 and 7 class
presented the poem "In
Flanders Fields" as, a choral
reading... A film provided by
the Legion was shown. The
Student's Council donated
$15.00to the Lucknow Leg-
ion Poppy Fund.
The Student's Council has
donated $20 to a fund raising
campaign for a new machine
at the Hospital' for Sick
Children in Toronto. Scott
Walpole, 3, from Fort Erie
recently underwent heart
surgery, which. was three
operations in one, to close a
hole in his heart and correct
two other' heart malfunc-
tions. His mother has organ
ized- a campaign to buy a
$40,000 machine, used in the
diagnostic treatment of child-
ren like -Scott. The machine
will replace a painful diag-
nostic
iagnostic method, which must
be used if the, hospital does
not have the machine.
