Happenings
BY LYNNE NICOLSON
It was a week when grand-
mothers gazed fondly on
their grandchildren and re-
membered. It was a week
when old men sat at their
bedrooms, staring out of the
window and were not looking
at the world. They remem-
bered. It was a week for all
who heard the planes over
head and felt the ground
shake beneath their feet.
They too remembered. A
young child . pulled on its
mothers coat and wanted to
know why there was a
silence, the silence we all
take for granted. People
stood at the town cenotaph or
gathered in a small hall to
remember those -who died for
peace. On November 11 at
approximately 11:00 a.m.,
millions of people bowed
their heads in silence and
remembered.
Holyrood was no exception
as a Remembrance Day ser-
' vice was held last Saturday at
the Holyrood Town Hall
organized by the Holyrood
Women's Institute. We
would like to thank them for
a very successful effort, but
are sorry there, was not a
better turnout.
High school students of
the area are getting prepared
for a very important week
ahead. A week that many
dread. Exams are starting on
Thursday, so don't be sur-
prised if teeneagers are
scarce for the next few days.
We would like to wish
Mrs. Maretta Hodgins a
speedy recovery as she was
admitted into Wingham and
TRINITY U.C.W.
The November meeting
was held at the home of Dora
Alton. Betty Ritchie called
the meeting to order with a
poem on Remembrance. Jan-
et Cook read the scripture
and Betty Ritchie gave the
meditation on Remem-
brance. Janet Cook closed
the devotions with prayer.
Ella Hackett read several
'short poetns..Isabel Hunter
gave the Bible Study from
Matthew.
Shirley Hackett then con-
ducted the business portion
of the meeting. The annual
ladies' supper is set for
November 21. A large bale
was packed this week and
sent off. A vote of thanks was
made to Margaret Andrew
and Marian Zinn for so
faithfully keeping flowers in
the Church.
Following the business a
social hour was enjoyed by
all.
District Hospital last week.
Mrs. M. Hodings resides at
R. R. 2 Holyrood.
Election were held last
Monday in the surrounding
townships. Our township was
not involved as everyone on
the council were appointed
by acclamation.
That wraps things up for
this week, take care until
next. Thought for the week:
The only way to multiply
happiness is to divide it.
