PAST PRESIDENT
OF RIPLEY HIGH
Carmon Courtney was
president of Ripley High
School during the year of
1972-73. He held the position
of treasurer the year before.
The year Carmon was pres-
ident the Student Council
worked very hard and raised
$2,500 to give the complex.
They raised this money by
having monthly dances and
by doing various other things
like selling cards and choco-
late bars.
Around the school he was
better known as "Cam".
Carmon attained all his
school letters, the school
spirit award and was Valedic-
torian when he graduated
from R.D.S. He also gained
the position of King of the
High School and Debbie
Armstrong (Tranter) was
Queen.
After graduating from Rip-
ley Carmon worked at Court-
ney's Grain and Seed for
about three years. • He is
presently working and living
at. L'Arche Frontenac which
is located about 60 miles
north of Kingston. It is a
community which centres its
growth and life around ment-
ally handicapped adults. The
farm covers an area of about
two hundred acres. It is a
very nice set up and one of
the areas they are specializ-
ing in right now is a wood
working program, Some of
their work is very nice and
consists of items such as
paper towel holders, ' medic-
ine cabinets, window boxes
with mirrors and many other
crafts.
Well, that just about wraps
it up for Carmon but keep in
touch for the next review of
the "Past President of Ripley
High".
REACH FOR THE TOP
This year's reach for the
top team is Tom Wilson,
Adrian Korten, Ruth Cluley,
Harold VanderGlas and
spare Karen McGarvey. For
a practice the team played 1
the teachers Thursday morn-
ing but were slightly defeat-
ed! They will be competing
with Bluevale Waterloo on
Wednesday, November 8th.
Good luck goes to the team.
EXAMS
Students are very busy
preparing for their mid-term
exams which start on Novem-
ber 10th and end on Novem-
ber 15th. Good luck goes to
everyone!
DANCE
The Students' Council is
holding a fall dance on Fri-
day, November 17th . from
9.00 to 12.00. Everyone is
welcome. If you aren't a
student of R.D.S. be sure to
have someone sign you in.

ISAIAH MILTON
KILPATRICK
Isaiah Milton
Kilpatrick of Goderich
died'in Alexandra Marine
and General Hospital on
Tuesday, October 31 at
the age of 87.
He was born on October
4, 1891 in Ashfield
Township to John and
Frances (Albin)
Kilpatrick. He was the
youngest and . the last
surviving member of the
family of four daughters
and four sons.
In 1912 he married the
former Clara Isabel
Twamley, daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Twamley of Ash-
field.
The couple farmed in
Ashfield Township for 35
years before moving to
Goderich in 1947. They
have lived in Goderich for
the past 31 years:
The late Mr. Kilpatrick
worked as a fertilizer
agent and later as a
fertilizer sales agent
covering a large territory
before it was zoned. He
was also a drover and a
cattle dealer. Re worked
at the Goderich stock
yards for many years as
a livestock shipper and
weigh man.
He was a member. of
North Street United
Church.

wife; two sons, Clifford of
West Wawanosh and
Harvey of Ashfield
Township; and two
grandchildren, Mrs.
Mark. (Janice) Hergott
and Barry Kilpatrick.
He was predeceased by
one son Melvin; one
daughter, Verna; and one
grandson, Mark.
' A funeral service was
held at McCallum
Funeral Home at 2 p.m.
on Friday, November 3.
The Reverend Ralph
King officiated.
Interment was in.
Dungannon Cemetery.
VIOLET [JACKSON] MILLS
The death of a former
Huron Township woman oc-
curred in Cleveland, Ohio on
Tuesday, October 17, 1978,
following a two week illness.
Violet Mae (Jackson) Mills
Sr. was born on the second
concession of Huron Town-
ship on July 28, 1888, the
daughter of the late Cather-
ine Fowler and the late
Samuel Jackson. She was
the second last remaining
member of a family of 10
children.
She was predeceased by
her husband, Robert J. Mills
Sr. in 1958.
She was survived by her
daughter, Catherine Rober-
tai Mrs. Walter Ewald,
Cleveland, Ohio, and a son,
Robert Jr., Cleveland. One
granddaughter, Joanne,
Mrs, Rick Powers, and two
great grandsons, Bobby and
Jeffrey Powers also survived.

Mr, Turvill had a Hallowe-
'en Dance for the 7 and 8
classes at noon hour on
Tuesday.
Mr. Stanley has tested the
grades 7 and 8 for a running
test. Everybody had to run
for 12 minutes.
Students have received
their year books for 1977-78.
Mrs. Henderson's class
'71 got a new pupil .on
Monday, Her name is ,Gloria
Cox. We are trying to make
her feel welcome.
A practice session for
"reach for the top" was held
in the Library. The teachers'
team consisted of Mrs. Bir-
nie, Mr. Turvill, Miss Mc-
Gonegal, Mr. La Flair. The
student team was Adrian
Korten, Harold Vander Glas,
Tom Wilson, Ruth Cluley,
Karen McGarvey. Element-
ary students were the audi-
ence.

at St. Joseph's Church,
Kingsbridge at °10.00 a.m.
Volleyball has now started
at St. Joseph's School on
Wednesday, November 1.

started in the school, Free
throw will soon be starting
and everyone is signing up.

Mrs. Shewfelt's and Mr.
Price's classes teamed up for

witches and scary stories
appeared at the centres.
Could that delicious aroma
have been popcorn? Of
course! But the evidence
didn't -last long.

Mrs. MacDonald's class is
making Scary Menus for
Witches. Here are some

She is also suivived by a
sister Mrs. Francis Olive
Young, of Maple Lodge,
Goderich, formerly of Ripley;
a niece, Muriel, Mrs. Alex
MacAuley, and a nephew,
Nelson Hodgins, both of
Ripley.
A grandson, predeceased
her in 1974.
Burial took place in Sunset
Memorial Park, Cleveland.
DANIEL RYAN
Daniel Ryan, Detroit, died
in Middlebelt Nursing Cen-
tre, Livonia, at the age of 66
on November 5, 1978.
He was born in Chesley on
September 8, 1913, the son
of the late William Ryan and
the late Amelia Wehenkle.
He is survived by a daugh-
ter, Kathy, Mrs. Clayton
Blackert, Princeton, Illinois,
and sons, Frank of Toronto,
Rev. Lloyd, of Church of Our
Lady, Guelph, and Philip of
Toronto.
He is also survived by
three sisters, Mary, Mrs.
Walter Clare, Lucknow; Luc-
ille, Mrs. Joseph Copper-
aule of Detroit, and Bernice,
Mrs. Jack Simpson of Tor-
onto., Three grandchildren
survive.
Funeral service was held
at Sacred Heart R. C.
Church, Walkerton, under
the direction of Tanner and
Pearson Funeral Home,
Walkerton, on November 1,
1978 at 11 a.m.
Burial followed in Calvery
Cemetery.

SCHOOL EVENTS
All the rooms, ready for
.,,Hallowe'en are decorated
with witches, bats and pump-
kins. Also every class is
dressing up for Hallowe'en
and parading around the
gym on Tuesday, October
31st.
PRIMARY SOCCER
There were 6 teams in the
primary soccer tournament.
Captains of the teams were
Blair Scott, Francis Van-
Rooyen, Vincent Wright, Bil-
ly Patterson, John Bak and
Larry Reid. John Bak's team
and Billy Patterson's team
were in the playoffs with
John's team being the win-
ner. Members of John's
team were Tony Pollock,
Darren Cook, Tommy Wat-
son, Robbie Thompson, Billy
Johnson, Tanya Hawryly-
shyn, Lisa Wilkin, Tammy
Fludder and David Hodgins.
Congratulations boys and
girls.

Kindergarten to grade 4's
Halloween party took place
on Friday, October 27, win-
ners were: Kindergarten,
Bryan Olson, Connie O'Con-
nor; grade 1, Sandra Van
Osch, Jennifer Dalton; grade
2, Christine Connelly, Vince
Doherty; grade 3, Sean Wil-
son, Maureen Stapleton;
grade 4, Steven Doherty,
Andrea Smith.
Grade 1 and 2 girls were
winners in the apple bobbing
contest. Father Dentinger
displayed great enthusiasm
and ensures great victory for
the boys next year.
. The grade 3 and 4 were
filled with suspense as they
entered into the suspense_
path of terror. All who
participated were spell-
bound.
The grade five and sixes
had a special drive to raise
money for Mission Hope.
Altogether they have
brought in over $26:
There was a school assoc-
iation meeting at the school
on Thursday, November 2.
