association meets

Around 100 people attend-
ed the annual meeting of
District 8, Huron -Perth, Ont-
ario Association of Agricul-
tural Societies, which was
held on October 25, 1978 at
the Kirkton-Woodham Com -
Triunity Centre.
Following a pot luck supper,
Tim and Dan Shute provided
musical entertainment.
Mr. Art Peppin of the
Agricultural and Horticultur-
al Societies Branch, Toronto,
was the guest speaker, show-
ing slides and explaining the
grant system to the Societies.
He stated the annual conven-
tion next year will be held
Feburary 21 and 22 at Tor-
onto.
Chairman for. the meeting
was the director of the Men's
Division for District 8 in
1978, Mr, Bi11 Westman.
Mr. Harold Lobb of Clin-
ton was elected director, with
Mr. Keith McLagan of Mit-
chell chosen as associate dir-
ector. Donald Young, R. 3
Auburn, is secretary -
treasurer.
The slate of officers for the
Ladies' Section is Mrs. Verna
Seeley, St. Marys, director;
Mrs. Stewart Smale, St.
Marys, secretary; and Mrs.
Dolores Shapton, Exeter, as-
sociate director and Mrs.
Maxine Sereda, Exeter, as-
sociate secretary.
The 1979 annual meeting
will be hosted by the St.
Marys Agricultural ' Society.

Two area young people
received awards at the F. E.
Madill Commencement on
Friday evening. Mary Eadie
was the recipient of the Mr.
and. Mrs. W. F. MacDonald
Award. She is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Eadie,
R. 3 Holyrood. Stephen
Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs.
W. Allen, Holyrood, received
an award for Proficiency in
Woodworking. Congratula-
tions to both. Congratula-
tions are sent 1 out to all who
graduated. It is surely well
deserved.
Mrs. Diane Wall and Mary
Haldenby won afghans at the
Tea and Bake Sale held at
Kinlough Anglican Church
on Saturday.
Visitors this week with . Mr.
and Mrs. E. Hanna, R. 1
Holyrood, were David and
Heather. Barrett, children of
Mr. and Mrs. B. Barrett,
Paisley.
If you were watching T.V.
at about 11.35 Saturday night
you may have noticed a
couple of familiar faces. They
were • none other than our
Reeve, Barry Johnston and
his wife. They were attend-
ing . a warden's dinner at
Sauble Beach. Hope they had
an enjoyable and interesting
time.
Well that about wraps
things up for this week and I
only have one thing else to
say. You guessed it, the
thought of the week.

The weather was fine for
Hallowe'en last week which
was quiet around here with
some children trick or treat-
ing, a part of Hallowe'en we
always enjoy: ' No mischief
was reported.
Fred Moore of Wingham
called on Mr. and Mrs.
Clifford Young last Monday.
Mi. and Mrs. Albert Bon-
gertman of Lucknow, former-
ly of Langside, left by plane
from • Toronto Sunday for
Holland. Their daughter,
Mary, who is stationed with
the airforce at Moose Jaw,
Saskatchewan,' met them at
Toronto to travel to Holland,
with them. They plan to be
there. when Albert's 'parents
celebrate their 60th wedding
anniversary.
Mrs. Marg Coughlin of the
14th of Culross visited Weds
nesday with Mrs. Bev Sprin-
ger. •
Congratulations to Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon Chapman
of Rexdale on,the birth of a
baby boy on October 30. A
brother for Lisa and a new
grandson for Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Wfghtman of Belgrave.
Mrs. Wightman is the former
Jean Young of Langside,
Henry Bras]
en who was
injured` last week in a ear
accident is still a patient in
St. Joseph's Hospital,
Guelph.
Bill Scheurwater who was
injured in a farm accident
some time ago is still a
patient in University Hospit-
al in London.
Mrs. Elmer Scott is a
patient in Victoria Hospital,
London, since last Monday.
We hope they will soon all
be able to be home again.
Sympathy of the commun-
ity is extended to relatives of
James Hollinghead, Tees -
water Pharmacist, who pas-
sed away last weekend at his
home.
Sympathy of the commun-
ity is also extended to .rela-
tives of John Wraith, Luck -
now, who passed away while
hunting last Wednesday.
John spent his boyhood at
Langside on the farm across
the corner from the store.
The funeral was on Sunday
with burial in Langside Cem-
etery.
William Pinnell of Kit-
chener, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn
Pinnell and Bob of Windsor
and Mrs Robert Burrows
(Mildred Pinnell) of Elmira
attended the funeral of John
Wraith on Sunday and re-
newed acquaintances with
other relatives who were also
at the funeral.
