JOE HICKEY
MARYBELLE CRANSTON
J. D. DURNIN
-"JIM AITCHISON
Election in West Wawanosh and Ashfield
Joe Hickey is concerned about the high
cost of everything and he believes the main
issue is that a council work well together.
He has been on council for the past eight
years, and he personally feels much has
been achieved in those years.
He believes that township councils are
closer to the interests of the people, as
compared to complex regional govern-
ment, where it may be months before you
can get on their agenda.
Mr. Hickey is a farmer.
Marybelle Cranston has been a
councillor for four years and says she
bases some of her decisions on input
received from people in the township.
She doesn't believe there are anyreal °
issues in this election. The ratepayers'
vote is important however, and so is
their interest.
She says that anyone, who disagrees
strongly with a council decision, will
often run in the next election.

J. D. Durnin has served on West
Wawanosh council before, from 1970 to
1974.
He has decided to run again because
nobody seems to be taking an interest in
municipal .government and if somebody
doesn't, he fears it will be in someone
else's hands before long.
He does not want to see township
councils replaced by regional government.
The local municipality has no say and only
one person represents three or four
townships. He feels it is the younger
people who are not showing interest.
Mr. Durnin is a West Wawanosh farmer.
Jim Aitchison served on council from
1966 to 1972 and retired because of a lack
of time for council business. Hehas more
time now, because he has disposed of some
of his land, and he wants to continue where
he left off before.
He is not satisfied with some of the
drainage works in the. township and says
they have been "blundered" by the
engineers.
There are many things he thinks council
should get done over the coming term, but
FINLAY MacDONALD
Finlay MacDonald is running for
reeve of Ashfield because he believes
everyone on council should take the
opportunity to move up.
The township's representative on the
Maitland 'Valley Authority, he sees the
Authority's preparation of Flood Plain
Mapping as a protection for the home
buyer.
He wants council to take their time on
the township's secondary plan, so that
costly amendments will not have to be
made after the plan is passed.
MacDonald has served for five years
as Ashfield councillor and four years as
deputy -reeve.

CARL SEEGER
whether council can get the money to do
them is another thing. Road construction is
one project he names. It will take some
time for him to familiarize with legislation
changes during his absence from council,
but Mr_Aitchison believes that his past
experience on council is an advantage.
He is a farmer in the township.
Carl Seeger decided to run for council
because he feels that municipal councillors
should, not be in office by acclamation.
When acclamation occurs, the councillors,
in theory, are not truly accountable for
their actions.
More representation is needed. in the
south part of West Wawanosh says Seeger.
.He would like to see close scrutiny of
financial spending. He wants the budget
balanced before too much of a deficit is
realized and believes more attempts should
be made • to prevent taxes from increasing.
He wants.:: to see the deficit for future
years eliminated before taxes have to be
increased.
Mr. Seeger has 20 years of business
experience and is presently farming in
West Wawanosh. •_
WARRN ZINN
Warren Zinn has been reeve of
Ashfield for four years. He has served
as chairman of the Huronview Board of
Management.
Zinn wants a part in finishing the
township secondary plan which will take
more work, yet. He wants council to
take time to understand all aspects of
the plan', before it is passed.
Ashfield has formed an area fire
board with Lucknow, West Wawanosh
and Kinloss in the past year. He said
that working together with the other
three muncipalities has provided servic-
es which would not otherwise be
available,
Zinn does, not want regional govern-
ment to be established in this area
because he does not believe that a
bigger forth of government will best
serve the needs of Ashfield.
