This Week
in Ripley
Mr. and Mrs. 1~ rancis
Gemmell of Ripley.
visited with her sister and
husband, Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Inksater in Paris.
Mrs. Inksater was just
home from the hospital..
Miss Gertrude Kidney
of Ripley spent last week
visiting with Miss Betty
MacDonald at her home
in Creemore.
A beautiful autumn
sight was witnessed last
Thursday evening shortly
before dusk. Apparently,
three big flocks of black
ducks were flying south
when a small airplane
flying in a southwest
direction over Ripley
crossed in front of thein.
This caused the ducks to
turn west and fly abreast
in a line about a half mile
long in the direction .of.
Lake Huron.

Huron township hall.
Club leader Robert
Osborne received the
date from the Walkerton
office recently which is a
change for the one
previously announced.
Two blocks south of
Ripley on the 15th road
then one block west is the
bare country crossroads
corner of the twentieth
sideroad with the fourth
concession of Huron
township. Yet twice.
within the last three
months events happening
on farms at this corner
received newspaper
mention. The events
happened years ago and
years apart - 25 years
apart. One was happy
and the other sad: In July
of this year, the one
mentioned that caught
this writer's attention
was the fall of Dave
Campbell from a load of
hay in the front field of
the farm on the southeast
corner. Among the few
there to help were neigh-
bour Mervyn Hooey now
of Ripley and the writer.
Dave Campbell suffered
a broken back and lived
for six days at home. The
attending doctor was the
late Dr. D. R. Finlayson
of Lochalsh and Ripley.

The second . event
happening there was a
happy one on the farm -on
the northeast part of the
corner. In last week's
paper it stated that "The
Huron and Kinloss
Plowmen's. '.Association
will be held on the farm of
W. 'E. Glass, lot 21,
concession 4, Huron on
Wednesday, November 4
when a large number of
prizes will be awarded."
This would be back in
1903. What a sight this
would be today to see all
those horse teams hit-
ched to walking plows
going back and forth in a
field. Back then there
were no -tractors and no
trucks to transport the
horses.
Mrs. John D. MacKay
was able to return home
last Friday. Joan .was a
patient' in Victoria
Hospital, London . un-
dergoing surgery. Folks
here wish her continued
recovery.
Mrs. Vera Scott, who
accidentally stepped on a
chestnut on the main
street of Ripley and in
falling on the sidewalk
broke her hip a couple of
weeks ago is now back in
Kincardine and. District
Hospital. She was a
patient in Victoria
Hospital, ,London for
treatment of the. fractures
