Councillor Leo Foran councillor . of
West. Wawanosh Township for the past. 10 •
years told the township's ratepayers
meeting on. Tuesday, OctQier 17 that he .
will run`fer reeve to replace 'Bob Lyons who
is retiring.:
Foran said that it was the time he'd
"better move• -up or .move out",
Lyons who served as reeve . of the
tovrnship for 12 years his moved into the
village of Lucknow. and is no longer a
ratepayer of the township, and must retire
from: the reeve's position.
Lyons, whoserved as councillor for three '
years before . becoming reeve, said he
hoped he had done something for the
township 'during his years in office, He said
be plans tokeep in touch with the
township's doings thereeven though he
lives in Lucknow.
He said he is the longest continuous .
member of the Huron County Council and
they refer to him, as the "senior" at county
council, ,.
Lyons said there had ':been arguments
with the councillors he had spat with on. the
West Wawanosh , council but : they got
things done and "1, enjoyed it and ..I'm
going tomiss, he added,
• Councillor Joe, Dickey, ' who indicated'he .
would run for council again; told . the
meeting that since the'election made this a
short year of only 11 months for council•.
business, 'I suppose: that means it will:
take less money.,,
He observed that :the :,township has
acquired more during the eight years=:he
has been councillor "not because°'1' was
here, but because of the nuMber, of years..".
Marybelle Cranston, who Is 'running
for council again, said she cannot, stand
hearing people say, •"they", 'meaning the
council. ""We are council but we are
working for the township," she said, "'And
we'readoing our best." Shersaid.she would
like people to think of council as among the
•ratepayers of the township and that they
areamong the we and us of the township 'v
instead of "they who sit on, council:""
Cranston said that the council' seemed'to :
be doingA great deal of municipal drainage
work. but, ;she said she ' believes •that. is •
because the bean and corns farmers want on
the land twO days of `ter a rain, instead' of a
• week after like our grandfatbersr.
Cranstonwhosits.. On the arena boar
said that :anyone who attends hockey gain -
es in the Lucknow arena will know the
difference the *new "roof over the dressin'

project tc build six *more dressing • room's
has been-:‘ shelved for the present because:
the. Kinsmen Club who was going to -
spearhead the • project, fund raising is
looking into the availability of money to •
finance such a project and what form the
project .should take, '
Councillor Arnold Stothers did" not.
appear at the. meeting and did note send.
word of " his : intentions in the upcoming.
election, -
There were approximately ten ratepay-
ers at the meeting. Councillor Cranston
said she had thought there:.would be more
.out because a. ratepayers meeting has not
been held, in the township since the.
Election Act was changed in 1972 making it
longer. compulsory to hold one prior to
an election
