On ' a motion - made by iamilton and seconded by Crump,' council agreed to hire aha Nelson. They alsodecided that it was not yy to. be necessary for...a town employee present at the snow removal to indicate fire hydrants to the driver-,. It was on March 30, 1918, that the CNIB was founded with a staff of three and today has grown into a nationwide organization. To commemorate these sixty years of continuous service to the blind of Canada, a special flag has been designed to mark the Diamond jubilee. This flag is flying above the Lucknow Central Public School here in Lucknow during the local campaign, October 12 - 21. During the year 1977 - there were 2,506 newly registered blind persons in Ontario alone, (Bruce County - 83; Grey County 67 and Owen Sound - 33). People are beginning to realize, more so today than in the past, that blindness does not limit a person's ability to think, learn, play, work, serve, or lead. The CNIB helps to unlock opportunities for blind Canadians through adjustment to blindness training, braille and talking books, children and student services, employment preparation, job placement, mobility instruction, blind- ness prevention, counselling, education and research. Over 80 services are offered to blind persons -by' the. CNIB. These services are made possible by the financial' support received - through personal donations, annual fund raising appeals, and grants from various levels of government. More than eighty per = cent of . • the CNIB's revenues come, from the personal dona- tions and the annual fund raising appeals. In Lucknow the •annual fund raising appeal is takingplace from October 12 21.. Once again Lucknow Public has graciously agreed to conduct this year's . campaign. Everyone's kind and generous donation will be greatly appreciated. Even though 1978 marks 60 years. of service in the rehabilitation of visually impaired Canadians and prevention of blindness programs, the CNIB realizesthat this is just the lieginning of the work which needs to . be accomplished. The CNIB wishes to thank all those who . helped, and are helping,to make this possible. £ TC L' . ` Y lvT'..jv • a,3,F',6K iP NY 45,F"oP ' A neW flog has been flyl ng;. over the Latckno w ntrai PubBd =School to Mark the 6bth anniversary of t Canatlimrt Naw Inatitute for the thetilhil4 To tiii nmemarr ears eontlnuious.aervloe;to the hlinid,ef Canada tla special flag has been designed axk'th o. d to m e ., ,ate clockwise' from tipper Sanderso ... rDleti►ond Jubilee.
