Let us consider the Mennonite, who has discarded all electricty including household plumbing then look at his harvest and compare it with his neighbours,. who have all the modern conveniences. There is every possibility that the Mennonite is a little bit ahead. No, I in no way can concur our country going backward. Progress means forward at all times, but a pure waste of our natural resources is not progress, and the waste of good,wood is most certainly not a step forward. Perhaps we have gotten too smart, too soon. It is much easier to push a button, or turn a switch, but we are discarding the thing that made most of Ontario famous. This land was nothing but a huge forest when our forefathers settled here and now we are trying very hard to get rid of the last of it. Inside of five years, wood is going to be a valuable product. Why not use it, instead of letting it rot? The steam tractor will give plenty of power from just such refuse, I know, I've done it. I have every reason to believe that my articles are read by not only the general public, but by the council and reeve. How about those school signs? They have been asked for in a pleading manner. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Snow- den and Bill Jr. of Goderich were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tiffin, Joey and Mrs. Orville Tiffin. Joey Tiffin is attending the Hockey School which begins }Monday evening, October 9 and runs for 2 weeks, at Blyth. Visiting with Mrs. Ella Johnston, a patient in Wing - ham Hospital, on the week- end were Mr. and Mrs. Reg Peacock and family of Thorn- ton, Mr. and ' Mrs. Stewart Smith and family, Kitchener, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Smith and family, Sudbury, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Johnston and family, St. Pauls, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Johnston and family, Listowel, Mrs. Clar- ence Ritchie and Mary Ann, of Lucknow, Mrs. charles Wood and Mrs. Carmichael, of Seaforth, her sister, Edna, Mrs. Albert Garner of Wind- sor and Mrs. Earl Wiltz, of Pinetree Crestnets Pinecrest Manor was a busier place this month. We were happy to have more people coming in to entertain us and visit. On September 5, - the Roman Catholics held their monthly communion. On September 9 Gloria Gollan and Robert Symes were married. in Wingham.. They came with their wed- ding party afterwards and we were so happy to see the beautiful dresses and hats and good looking people. Rev. W Munshaw held a Workshop Service on Sept- ember 10 and the Lucknow Christian Reformed Ladies held bingo on Monday, Sept- ember 11. Nine residents enjoyed a ride to Ripley on September 14 in the van. Mr. Wm. Steer couldn't believe that we were still in Ripley as it has grown so much. We went to see the new Community Centre and apartment buildings. On September 16 some of the Lucknow Fall Fair parade passed by our windows. We would like to thank the Agriculture Society .for ar- ranging this, as some of our residents could see the parade from their, bed. The Pentecostal Church from Kinlough made their monthly visit on September 21st and sang some new and old hymns. On September 22 the Dungannon Christian. Fel- lowship Church came to entertain us with singing, music etc. The Christian Reformed Church of Lucknow came for their monthly visit on Sept- ember 24. On Wednesday, Septem- ber 27, we left right after breakfast for the Plowing Match. We arrived at 8.50 so drove around the streets of the Plowing Math before the crowd arrived. Mrs. Catherine Murray said that she couldn't have believed it was so huge if she hadn't have seen it herself. Our monthly birthday par- ty was held on September 28th with Mrs. Harold Elliott of Dungannon playing her bagpipes and playing the piano for .a sing song. Mrs. Donalda Scott accom- panied on the , piano with Jean Conley on the banjo for some good old toe -tapping music. Since Belle MacKinnon and James Smith had their birthdays that day, Bell persuaded Jean Conley to dance for us with Mrs. Moffat on the piano.
