All were here tohelp Don and Anne celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. Visitors dor Thanks- giving with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Osborne and family were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Pennington and family of Teeswater, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Campbell of Lucknow, Miss Lynda Campbell of Toronto and Mrs. Jack Reavie of Wingham. Anne and Don McCosh wish to thank their friends and relatives who came to the "Open house" in the Township Hall on Saturday October 7, 1978. A special thank you for the Purple Grove Orchestra who played for the good old-fashioned dance. Thanks too for the delicious dinner served in the Purple Grove CC .for all your good wishes and gifts. Miss Sharon Colling of London spent Thanksgiving weekend HOLYROOD 4-H The second meeting of the Holyrood Metric Mixers was on Monday, October 2nd in Mrs. Stanley's home. We opened with the 4-H pledge led by Wilma Duiker. Lea -Anne Haldenby read the minutes of meeting one. A vote for the club name resulted in "Holyrood Metric Mixers". Next week ideas for cover pages and members pages are to be brought to the meeting. Mrs. Stanley information Mrs. Gingrich read information from the members' pamph- lets, concerning breakfast ideas and menus. Margaret MacDonald and Marlene Murray made '"Healthy Peanut Butter Bread" while Cathy Stanley and Beth Gingrich made "Energy Squares". KAIRSHEA METRIC MAGICIANS The meeting was held at Mrs. Ritchie's home on October 6. The minutes were read by Nancy Haldenby. Karen talked about what things could be added to the white sauce. Teresa and Carol made "a la king" using white sauce. While that was cooking, Bonnie showed • how much flour increases when sifted. Mrs. Ritchie demonstrated how to make, Metric Tea Biscuits and read how to judge biscuits. Nancy and Anne made cheese and bacon swirls. Linda and Molly made wheat germ biscuits. • • with Mrs. Katherine Coiling. They visited her brother Ernie at the family homestead farm on the fourth concession in Huron Township. At this time of writing, Ivan Pollock of Ripley is still in the intensive care unit at Victoria Hospital, London under treatment for tetanus infection. All the folks of this area are hoping for the best for Ivan. Two weeks ago Monday he was taken to Kincardine hospital and then next day transferred by ambulance to London. A patient in Victoria Hospital for the past couple of weeks is Johnny MacKay of Huron Villa, Ripley. At present he is recovering from surgery which he underwent in the past weeks. - Ripley folks send best wishes to Johnny for recovery. Also a patient in the same hospital is Mrs. Jenny Brotchie of Kin- cardine. She, is the sister of Mrs. Eileen Nesbitt of Huron Villa and a former native of the 4th con- cession west in Huron township, also best wishes to Jenny. Howard and Marie Kraft of Welland who were here for the Brian MacKay, Debbie Fuller wedding in Ripley last Saturday visited . with Mary and Elwyn Pollock on the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Les Gawley have returned to their home in Powell River, B.C. after visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Gawley, Purple Grove. Mr. and Mrs. Dewayne Greig and family, Elmira, Mr, and Mrs. Barry Johnston and family of Holyrood, also with Mrs. Lettie and Ethel Gawley, Ripley, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Chadbourne and family Kincardine. No running. No walking. No exercise. No effort. Penalty — a shorter life. No argument. Fitness is fun. Try some. CID PannaPacnon When they were finished baking the girls tasted the biscuits and swirls and found them quite good. TRINITY I1 The fourth meeting of Zippy Trinettes was held at the home of the assistant leader, Mrs. Ivan Cranston, on October 5. Karen Campbell read the minutes of the last meeting. The leaders discussed "White Sauce Revisited", Tea Biscuits. Mrs. Blake demonstrated Creamy Ham and Mushroom supper, wheat germ biscuits. Mrs. Cranston demon- strated tea biscuits, cheese and bacon swirls. All members tasted the Creamy Ham and Mushroom supper which was sampled on the tea biscuits, wheat germ biscuits, cheese and bacon swirls. LUCKNOW # 1 4-H CLUB The third meeting of The Metric Eaters was held on October 5th in the Lucknow Central Public School. President Joanne Pentland opened the meeting. Debra Arnold read the minutes from the previous meeting and Grace Alton gave the treasurer's report. The leaders discussed, The Carried Lunch, Fillings that Freeze 'Well; Lunch at Home, Vegetables, Safe and Sound, Health in the Kitchen and Kitchen Safety. Grace Alton and Barb Henderson demonstrated two methods of making Metric White Sauce (the melted fat method and creamed fat method). The Medium Metric White Sauce was then used in the potato cheese, chowder. Brenda Henderson and Lorna Boyle demonstrated peanut butter and carrot spread. Ruth Alton and Kim Sanderson made peanut but- ter and apple spread. These spreads were then sampled on Banana Bread. Joanne Pentland and Debra Arnold showed how to make Potato Cheese Chowder a la Metric. These foods were all sampled and opinions were formed.
