LUCKNOW 4-H
The first meeting of the
Lucknow 4-11 Club was held
on Thursday, September 21,
1978 at the Lucknow Central
'Public School. This club,
called "Essential Edibles" is
designed to introduce cook-
ing in metric style t9 the girls
of the .4-H Homemaking
-club.
Leader, Bernadean Rit-
chie, called the meeting to
order. Election of officers
was as follows: president,
Joanne Pentland; vice pres-
ident, Debra Arnold; treas-
urer, Grace Alton; secretary,
rotating; press reporter, ro-
tating. •
The members are to have a
club name and a -design, for
"Essential Edible's" for the
cover, for the next meeting.

to make Metric Crispy Gran-
ola. After it was cooked, the
members all had a taste of it.
TRINITY I
The second meeting of the
'Metric Measurers' was held
at the home of Mrs. Hackett
on September 11.
The president, Brenda
Hackett, called the meeting
to order and all joined in the
repeating of the 4-H pledge.
Sharon Alton read the min-
utes of the last meeting and
they were approved. •
The leaders discussed
• such interesting topics as:
Breakfast - What's in it for
me? Breakfast Skippers
scramble and Some Break-
fast Ideas.
Healthy Peanut Bread and
Energy Squares were made
with the assistance of the
members.
The meeting closed with
everyone sampling the Pea-
nut Bread and the Energy
Squares. The girls also had
the opportunity to taste a
Yogurt loaf which had been
made before the meeting.
SILVER LAKE 4-H
The first meeting of the
Silver Lake 4-H club, "Es-.
sential Edibles" was held at
the home of assistant leader,
Mrs. Ray Stanley, on Sept-
ember 20.
The meeting was opened
with the 4-H pledge followed
1:•)., the election of officers,
they are, president, Valerie
Stanley; vice president, Jean
Hedley; treasurer, Denise
King; secretary, will rotate.
Valerie Stanley demon-
strated how to make metric
granola. Each member is to
make some at home this
week.
Leader, Mrs. Eric Thack-
er, discussed nutrition and
led in the grocery bag game.
CLOVER VALLEY 4-H ,
The first meeting of the
Clover Valley 4-H Home-
making club for Essential
Edibles was held , on Thurs-
day, September 21st at the
home of Fran Elphick.
The election of officers was
as follows: preside t, Karen
Metzger; vice p esident,
Peggy Gibson; se retary,
rotating; treasurer,, Diane
Gibson; press reporter, rotat-
ing; and head of clean-up
committee, Gayle MacKen-:
zie. . .
After the books • were
distributed • Fran Elphick
gave a brief outline of the
club discussing requirements
with the members. Fran later
made Metric Crispy Granola
with the members
Donna Elphick got the
members playing "The Groc-
ery Bag Game". It involved
placing pictures of food -in a
. designated area in Canada's
Food Guide plus an "other"
category for food high in
calories and that do not offer
many nutrients to the body.

Cathy Hooper is teaching French this year at Ripley -Huron
Central, Ripley District School and Kinloss Central. She has
an honours bachelor of arts in French and her bachelor of
education, both from the University of Western Ontario. She
has spent summers in Quebec, to acquire a working

The -music supervisor for .area Bruce Schools this year is
Shirey Dodds. She co-ordinates the music programs at Ripley •
District School, Ripley -Huron Central, Kinloss Central, W. E.
Thompson, Huron Heights, Elgin Market, and Kincardine
Township -Tiverton schools. A graduate of teachers' college
she has previously taught music in Sarnia, Holmesville and at
