Car hits train at Whitechurch
Two Whitechurch area residents narrow-
ly escaped injury on Wednesday, Sept-
ember 13, when their car struck a freight
train at the Whitechurch crossing, on
sideroad 25 of Kinloss Township.
Eva Bolt, R. 5 Lucknow, received only
minor injury and was not treated at
hospital. Her passenger, Agatha Dueck, R.
5 Lucknow, was not injured.
The accident occurred about 2.10 p.m.
Trains do not pass the crossing at a
scheduled time so that people living in the
area do • no know when to expect them.
Mrs. Bolt was unable to get her car
stopped when she saw the train approach-
ing and itcollidedwith the train operated
by Irvin Heimpel of Stratford.
There was $5,000 damage to the Bolt car
which was turned around by the train and
ended up in the ditchalong side the tracks.
There was only $75 damage to the train.
Early morning fire
An early morning fire caused $20,000
damages to a Havelock Street home last
Wednesday. The fire which started at the
rear of a deep freeze unit in the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Marriott, was
reported at 6.45 a.m. by Leo Stefner, a
neighbour who saw flames coming through
the roof of the back of the house. When
firemen reached the scene, flames were
shooting 25 to 30 feet in the air. Firemen
were able to put out the flames but damage
to the roof over the back addition to the
house, smoke and , water damage is
extensive. Mr. and Mrs. Marriott were not
home at the time of the . fire.
Becker's
window
broken
Kincardine OPP are still investigating a
wilful damage complaint in which the plate
glass window of the Beckers Milk Store
front was broken. Damage was $200.
The incident occurred on Saturday,
September 16 about midnight. It appeared
as though something had been thrown
through the window.

About $20,000 damage was caused to the house owned by Mr. and Mrs. Vernon -Marriott on
Havelock Street when fire broke out at the tear of a freezer unit early last Wednesday
morning. Firemen were.called about 6.45 a.m. when a neighbour Leo Stefner saw flames
coming through the roof. Mr. and Mrs. Marriott were not home at the time of the fire.
Firemen were able to put out the fire but damage to the roof at the back of the house and
smoke and water damage is extensive.
