This week school buses are
again picking up scholars for
another year of learning.
Mr. and Mrs. Dunker and
their two sons moved last
week from Dorchester to the
farm they• purchased from
Mr.. and Mrs. Gerald Visser.
We welcome- them to the
community.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Breg-
man, Robert, "Joanne and
Christine, took a week's
holiday last week and spent it
on a cruiser on the lakes.
They picked up the boat at
Lefroy on Lake Simcoe on
Saturday and went to Georg-
ian Bay then through the
three locks to Marine Rail-

way and docked at Parry
Sound, They also called 6,t
Midland and other places of
interest arriving back at
Lefroy the following, Friday.
On Saturday they visited
with relatives at Barrie and
Orillia and had dinner with
Agnes' mother,.Mrs. Nell at
Stayner, before leaving for
home. They had lovely
weather and had a real nice
holiday.
Jamie Young accompanied
Dan Martin and the rest of
the Wingham Bantam ball
team when they went to
Guelph to play the final ball
game for the season. Dan is a
pitcher for the team.
Karen Young was one of
the Lucknow Band members
who played at the opening of
the Lucknow Community
Centre.
Congratulations to the
swimmers who passed their
tests at the Teeswater swim-
ming pool last week. Passing
the tests from this district
were Liane Young and Gloria
and Robert Cayley.
Karen and Liane Young
spent two days last week at a
cottage at Point Clark with
their aunt and uncle, Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Struthers, Sharen
and Cindy.
The Whitechurch Langside
Young 'Peoples are holding a
weiner roast on Friday even-
ing at the manse.
Wilma Visser received
word that her parents had
arrived at their new home in
the Peace River District in
Alberta.
Mr. and Mrs. Len Cough-
lin, Kelly, Kim, and Karey
visited on Saturday evening
with Mr. and Mrs. Clifford

Kincardine OPP in-
vestigated a complaint of
willful damage at Hen-
derson • lumber in
Lucknow where the wires
on a Ford delivery truck
had been clipped off. The
complaint was made on
September 5 and as yet,
no charges have been
laid. The .incident is still
under investigation.

Miss Barbara Blake of

Sympathy is extended
to the family of Julius
F.E. Bauer of Goderich
Township, who died in
Alexandra Hospital,
Goderich on Aug. 9, aged
69 years, after a lengthy
illness. His son, Wayne
Bauer lives on 4th conc.
West Wawanosh just out
of Dungannon; another
son, Donald lives at Port
Albert.

Clinton is . visiting her
sister Evelyn and
brother-in-law, Mr. and

spent a month with their

UNITED CHURCH
Rev. C.G. Westhaver
based his sermon on "The,
Church's Concern for the
Child." This was a very
timely topic for the day
that Sunday School
resumed operations and
since 1979 is to be
International Children's
Year. The Childrens
Story was, "As his
custom was, he went into
the synagogue".
The choir sang, "The
Old Rugged Cross" led by
the organist, Mrs. Jean
Elliott.

The September 6th
meeting of the
Dungannon Women's
Institute was held in the
United Church Sunday
School Room with
members of the Tiger
Dunlop W.I.' as guests.
Each Dungannon
member also Mad a guest.
The president, Mrs.
George Errington,
welcomed all present,
then conducted the
business. The secretary -
treasurer, Mrs. Harry
Girvin, called the roll.
The minutes, treasurer's
report and correspon-
dence were read and the
following items noted:

Society meeting at
Exeter Town Hall; Area

accepted; next 4-1-1 club is
"Essential Edibles".
Mrs. Errington
presented gifts to two 4-H
girls for their
achievements; to Bar-
bara (Culbert) Snowden
for completion of
"Advanced Honours" or
20 clubs, and to Dorothy
Culbert for completion of
Provincial Honours or 12
clubs.
The October meeting
will be held in the church
with "Grandmothers in
the Community" being
the guests.
The program on
"Family and Consumer
Affairs" was convened by.
Mrs. Clifford Purdon. A
humorous reading was
given by Mrs. Hugh
McWhinney. Mrs. Robert
Irvin condycted a contest
on locations of tourist
attractions.
Mrs. Purdon then in-
troduced her guest, Mrs.
Dixie Cameron, who had
spent several months in
New Zealand and
Australia last year on a
Jr. Farmer and United
Cooperative scholarship
trip. Her beautiful slides,
pictures and detailed
description were en-
joyable and instructive. A
gift was given to her in
appreciation.
Before lunch the guests
had an opportunity to
inspect the crafts which
the committee had on
display- quilts, hooked
rugs, cushions, em-
broidery, crocheting, and
a collection of small
pitchers. The 4-H also had
a vegetable and fruit
display. During lunch the
penny auction was
conducted and a lucky
cup prize given.
Mrs. Gordon Finnigan
was pianist. Hostesses
were Mrs. McWhinney,
Mrs. Purdon, Miss Beth
McConnell, Mrs. Irvin,
Mrs. 'Russell Johnston,
and Mrs. Roy Robson.

LILLIAN MAY WHITELY
Lillian May (Nixon) Whit-
ley died at Pinecrest Manor
Nursing Home on Saturday,
August 19, 1978, in her 84th
year.
Born in Ashfield Township
on June 20, 1895, she was
the daughter of the late
Ralph Nixon, Ireland, and
Isabella Isaac of Thessalon,
,Ontario.
She married the late Victor
John Whitley in _Dungannon
in January 1914.
She is survived by two
daughters, Harriet, Mrs. A.
McGregor, Edmonton; and
Ella, Mrs. A. Gushue, Ham-
ilton, and one son, Marvin
Whitley, Hamilton. She is
also survived by three sis-
ters, Mrs. Isabella Brunt,
Winnipeg; Mrs, Minnie > nr-
merson, Lucknow; and Mrs.
Hattie Albertson, Vancouv-
er; and one brother, Isaac
Nixon, Ashfield. Twelve
grandchildren and sixteen
great grandchildren survive.
She was predeceased by
her husband and one son,
Edwin,
The funeral was held at the
MacKenzie and McCreath
Funeral Home, Lucknow, on
August 22, 1978 at 2 p.m..
Rev. George Garratt of
Lucknow Anglican Church
conducted the service.
Pallbearers were grand-
sons, Allan Whitley, Randy
Ford, and nephews, Carmen,
Wayne, Ralph, and Delbert
Nixon.
Burial followed in Green-
hill Cemetery.
