On Tuesday afternoon of
this week, "August 22, the
ladies of the Ripley and
District Horticultural Society
held their annual summer
flower show ° in the Ripley
Huron Legion Hall. The
colourful exhibits placed on
display by the members were
judged by Mrs. Russel Bray
of R. R. 3 Lion's Head in the
Bruce Peninsula. Three priz-
es were offered in each
section of the show and as
well lucky door prizes were
awarded. Then the ladies
had a social tea, a plant
table, and a bake table. The
officers of the Ripley and
District Horticultural Society
are Mrs. Ewan MacLean of
Lochalsh, president; Mrs.
Mervyn Hooey, secretary;
and Mrs. Duncan D. Mc-
Leod, treasurer, both of
Ripley.
Miss Jean MacLeod and
Mr. and Mrs, Graham Mac-
Leod have returned to Toron-
to after spending a two week
vacation at Boiler Beach,
south of Kincardine, and
visiting friends and relatives
in Ripley and Kincardine. It,
is always nice to see Jean
and her brother Graham. In
the Ripley area, who can
forget Jean - our pitcher on
the 1945. Ripley Flyers W.O.-
A.A. Ladies champion soft-
ball team? Their brother
Duncan D. and his wife .Joan
are residents of Ripley.
Early mid Sunday morning
the siren of the ambulance
coming from the north along "
the fifteenth and passing
south through the main inter-
section alerted Ripley folks.
And it wasnot long till it was
on its way back to the
hospital. It has been learned
that a , car crashed into a
maple tree on the 15th just
south of concession 6, ser-
iously injuring the driver -
'the lone occupant of the car.
He has been taken to
London.
Away up in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, on the
sixth floor last week it was
like a small section from back
home. In rooms, not far apart
along the east hall way, were
Dr. Don Milne of Kincardine,
Mac MacKenzie of the Bruce
Inn, ICintardineand.my wife,
Fran, of Ripley. Dr. Milne
was ableto leave on Thurs-
day noon and:Mac on Friday.
Fran, who underwent surg-
ery on Monday, remains. For
Mrs. Mary Fludder and
myself it was a "come and
go" to St. Joe's every day
this past week. We were able
to come home Friday even-
ing. Also it was reported that
Mrs. June Elliott of conces-
sion 10 was able to come
home earlier this week.
Calling on. Fran last Thurs-
day from Ripley were Mary
and John C. MacDonald, and
on Saturday Carol Fludder
and. Evelyn Johnson. Also
Courtney MacDonald and his
wife Susan in Si. Joe's called
up to the room to talk with
her. And Cathy Fludder; Ron
and Pat Cornish called on
Thursday.
In Victoria Hospital in
London this past week were
Mrs. Marion McCharles of
Lochalsh and Murdock Mc-
Donald of Lucknow. And
Jack Johnson of Ripley
underwent surgery in Metro
Toronto last Thursday.
The Ripley Huron Com-
munity, Centre Complex has
become a popular place to
hold weekend reception dan-
ces. Last Friday evening one
was held for Mr. and Mrs.
Clayton Farrell with a good
crowd. Then - on Saturday
evening the wedding dinner
and reception dance for Mr.
and Mrs. Carl Stanley was
held with an equally good
crowd. On this coming Fri-
day night it will be the
reception dance for Mr. and,
Mrs. Bobby Simpson (Marg
Needham) and on Saturday it
will be the wedding dinner
and reception dance for Mr.
and Mrs. Donald Martin
(Sally Elliott).
The youngest member of
the McGillivray family raised
on the fourth concession of
Huron Township on the farm
now owned by Doug and
Marion Lackey passed away
last week. He was Clarence
McGillivray. He,and his wife
attended the '75 reunion
here and had a wonderful
time. He started his business
career as a member of the
Ripley. Royal Bank back in
1912 when it had moved to
the bank corner in Ripley. He
lived in Long, Island, New
York. He retired as the sales
manager of the Knott Hotels
of America - one of their
hotels being the Westbury
Hotel in Toronto. Besides his
wife he is survived by a
sister, Mrs. Myrtle Ashley of
Wiarton and by his brother,
Rev. Charles McGillivray of
Victoria, British Columbia,
who is over 90 years of age.
Interment will be in Wind-
sor. He is an uncle of the four
sisters Marion McCharles,
Marjorie McTavish, Tillie
Smith, and Jean Wylds.
Visiting with John and
Helen McMurchy in Luck -
now since the past week are
the` former Ada Graham,
Helen's cousin and her hus-
band, Frank Pengal of Wint-
er Park, Florida. They have
been living there for several
years. Both are in very good
health and they expect to be
visiting here till the end of
August.
Mrs. Verna Finlayson and
Mrs.' Violet MacKenzie at-
tended the Scottish World
Festival at the Canadian Na-
tional Exhibition on Satur-
day, August 19th.
Recent visitors with Mrs.
Violet MacKenzie were Mr.
and Mrs. -Lorne R. MacKen-
zie, Robbie, Susan and
Heather and Andrew Tully of
Unionville, who are holiday-
ing at Lurgan Beach for a..
couple of weeks.
After attending the Inter-
national Society for Music
Educators Congress in Lon-
don, last week, Corinne Mac-
Donald, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. John C. MacDonald,
left for Sacramento, Califor-
nia, where she will teach this
year in a Junior High School
as part of the International
Teacher Exchange Program.
Mrs. Annie (Joe) Scott and
Mrs. Florence Kirkpatrick
were Wednesday visitors
with Mrs. Janet MacDonald,
Port Elgin.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Brooks,
Barbara and Miss Shelly
West spent a few days at
Niagara Falls. Shelly West
had spent a few weeks with
the Brooks's. On Thursday,
Barbara and Shelly flew out
to Fort St. John, B.C., the
home of the latter.
Miss Lettie Gawley visited
on Friday with Mrs. Harry
Graham, Kincardine.
Mr. and Mrs. Cameron
MacAuley, Mrs. Lizzie Mac-
Donald and Mrs. Gladys
Arnold visited with friends in
Brtielea Haven, Walkerton
on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Col-
well, Mrs, Cecil Pollard,
Mrs. Irene Colwell and
Huston of Kincardine, Mrs.
Gladys Mason and Mr. and
Mrs. Don McCosh of Ripley
were guests of their cousin
Mrs, Anna Martyn Chaffin at
her Bruce Beach home.
Mrs. Frances Elliott, Mrs.
Marjorie Reid, Mr. and Mrs.
Mervyn Hooey, Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Campbell attend-
ed a family gathering at Mr.
and Mr. Ed Howe's, Paisley
on Sunday.
Miss Betty Anne Godfrey
of London 'is holidaying with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Reg Godfrey.
Miss Amelia Martyn and
Mrs. Catherine Alton - were
dinner guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Donald Bell on Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Barry Wylds
are happy to have Clare's
sister,, from Ireland visiting
with them.
Mrs. Marjorie Knight and
Miss Linda Knight of Brus-
sels were Sunday guests of
Don and Anne McCosh.
Mrs. Peggy MacDonald
entertained two of her neph-
ews, ,Christopher and Steven
Martyn from Peterborough,
last week.

home town of Athens on
Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. ' Gordon
Dawson and Lewis, Toronto,
spent the weekend with her
mother, Mrs. Mary (Donnie)
MacDonald.
Mrs. Farquhar MacDonald
spent the weekend with her
mother, Mrs. 'Effie Suther-
land. They attended the
family gathering at Port
Elgin. May's son, Drew,
returned home ' with his
mother after holidaying here
for the week.
Miss Dorinda Forster,
bride -elect, was the guest of
honour at a family shower at
the home of Mrs. Sandy
MacCharles on Saturday.
Miss Kathy Irwin was a
guest. of honour on Saturday
at a family shower held at the
home of Mrs. Margaret Blue.
