R. 7 Lucknow, on Saturday, August 12 was enjoyed by over 200 persons who gathered in the evening to partake of the feast celebrating Mr. Dalton's 30th birthday and the home- coming of his brother Danny and Marilyn Dalton and family of Nanaimo, British Columbia. Sweet corn, boiled over the open fire and potatoes roasted in the coals were truly delicious. Prior to the meal, entertainment on the lawn was provided by D. A. MacLennan on the bag- pipes; Basil Hogan on the violin; Mrs. Lillian Simpson at the piano; Kevin Meriam on the spoons; with stepdan- cing and sing songs. Mr. Donald Frayne and Mrs. Clarence Doherty are patients in the Alexandra Marine and General Hospit- al, Goderich. We wish them a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew P. Brennan of Frontenac, Mis- souri are visiting in this area searching for their family roots. Approximately 35 guests enjoyed a lawn supper and social honouring Andy , and Virginia at the home of Mrs. Jack Kinney on Sun- day, August 13, sponsored by the Kingsbridge Geneal- ogical Society. Guests were welcomed by the swirl of the bagpipes played by D. A. MacLennan. Following the 'delicious meal, Mrs: -.Grace• • Austin, chairperson, intro- duced the following mem- bers: baton twirling ' by Canadian Boys Champion, Tom Gilmore; step dancing by Lisa Frayne; Mary Luanne Clare gave a very descriptive outline of her recent pilgrim- age to New York and Washington and gave her prize winning speech on "The Holy Land" Speakers called on at this time were Bob Courtney, president of the Bruce County Genealog- ical Society; Warren Zinn, Reeve of Ashfield; Reverend Father Ed Dentinger, C.R., Andrew Brennan, and Mrs. Bernardine Kinney; Grace Austin told a brief history of what the Kingsbridge Gen- ealogical Society are doing and how it came to be in effect. Special old time and modern musical entertain- ment in the house was provided by violinists Wil- fred Hogan and Finlay Mac- Donald with Bob Courtney on the saxaphone and Joyce Courtney on the piano. Eugene Frayne sang several delightful solos accompanied on the piano by Joyce Courtney. Duets were sung by Father Ed Dentinger, and Raymond Dalton with all those in attendance joining in. Mr, and Mrs. Brennan left on Monday to go home to ,_ Missouri with a warm spot in their hearts for Kings- bridge, the home of their ancestors. They plan to make a return visit next year. Mrs. Dorothy 'O'Loughlin, Troy, Michigan, and her friend, Mrs. Dorothy Van - Kempen, Northville, Michi- gan, are spending holidays with Mrs. Jack Kinney, and attended, the lawn supper and farewell party for Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Brennan, Frontenac, Missouri. Mr. Leo Courtney, a patient in the Alexandra Marine and General Hospit- al, Goderich, was able to return to his home on Thursday, August 10. Philip and Shelby Henry and sons Phil and Russ of Marietta, Georgia visited for three days last week with their former neighbours, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Kemp and family. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. John Gallant on the arrival of a baby boy, John Joseph in St. Joseph's Hos- pital, London on Friday, August 11. Proud grand- paa tints are Mr. and Mrs. Joseph O'Keefe, R. R. 3 Goderich. Mrs. Rose Bowler and members of the Bowler families of Toronto are holidaying at the summer ,Bowler Residence here. Over 500 persons attended a Stag and Doe held for Carl Stanley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Stanley, R. R. 4 Ripley and 'for Miss Lissette VanDiepenbeek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Van- Diepenbeek, R. R. 3 Luck - now, on Saturday, August 12. Their wedding will take place in St. Joseph's Church, Kingsbridge on Saturday, August 19 at 3 p.m. Con- gratulations. Mr.. Walter Kelly has returned to his home here following holidays in the Western Provinces. A high- light of his trip was a return. visit to his former home in southern Manitoba. Mr. and Mrs, John O'Neill of Jackson, Michigan are spending holidays at their cottage here. Miss Anita Hogan who has been working and making her home in; Calgary, Alberta returned on Sunday, August 6. Welcome back, to Kings- bridge, Anita. Weekend visitors with Mrs. Mark Dalton, and family were Mr. and Mrs. Ken King, of Welland, Mr. and Mrs. John Dietrich and son John of Mississauga, Mary Pat and Rob Young, Mississauga. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Dalton and family of Palmerston spent the weekend at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Dalton and attended the beef barbeque held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clete Dalton. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Austin, their daughter Mrs. Jim Groebbel and children Barbara, Michelle and Philip of Centreline, Michigan visit- ed on the weekend with his brother Cyril and Catherine Austin; neice Mrs. Joe Courtney, Mr. Courtney and family; with Mary Heine in Wingham and with Miss Carrie and Bill O'Neill, God- erich. Miss Fay Hogan of Strat- ford spent a few days last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Con Hogan. Bridal showers are being planned to be held in St. Joseph's Parish Hall at Kingsbridge for Miss Lis- sette VanDiepenbeek on Tuesday; August 1 _,and for Miss Nancy O'Keefe on Wednesday, August 16. In the first three games played between the • Kintail Kuties and the Dungannon A ladies' baseball teams in the best three out of five series, Dungannon A team has taken the lead two games to Kingsbridge's one. The fourth game will be played in Dungannon on Monday, August 14 at 7 p.m. and if the fifth game is necessary it will be played on Wednesday; August 16 at 7 p.m. in Dungannon. Players 'on the Kintail Kuties team are: pitcher, Mrs. Eileen Wilson; catcher, Mrs. Yvon- ne Sinnett; first base, Mrs. Beryl McDonald; second base, Mrs. Mary Ann Van- Diepen.beek; third base, Mrs. Betty Lou Dalton; short stop, Bonnie Bowler; field- ers, Mrs. Mary Simpson, Marg Chester, Marj Humph- rey, Mrs. Joan Courtney, Mrs. Marian McLennan (a grandma), Mrs. Jan Zdybel, and Mrs. Mary Maize, who is also a grandma. The Dungan- LA non B team with coach Greg Park were the winners of the Consolation trophy, Con- gratulations. Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Darroch of Fergus and Bruce and Cavell Hansford and grand- daughter Charlene of Kitch- ener were weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Dalton and family. Smile The department store was having a fantastic sale on sweaters and the sportswear section was jammed with customers. The phone rang in the mail-order department. and a voice asked for "one light blue cardigan, size medium." The clerk writing the order asked, "To what name and address shall we send it?"
