Kin.gsbridge wins Dungannon Slow Pitch tournament
All roads seemed to lead to
Dungannon Agricultural
Park on the weekend when
the Slow Pitch Ball Tourna-
ment sponsored by the
Agricultural Society, was
held from Friday evening to
Sunday evening.
Sixteen teams from the
surrounding area including
Wingham, Kingsbridge,
Kincardine, Lucknow, Aub-
urn, Goderich and Dungan-
non attended. The Agricul-
tural Society provided troph-
ies ftrthe A and B class. The
Bill Parks family of Dun-
gannon donated a trophy for
the most valuable_ player in
the tournament, which was
won by Elmer Lamont of the
Kincardine team.
Kingsbridge won the tro-
phy for , the A class and
Kincardine Texacos won in
the B class. In a final game
between the winners, the
Kincardine team won by two
points. Tickets were sold for
a draw on a lawn chair which
was son by Jack Caesar. The
ladies kept the refreshment
booth going providing fast
foods and pop for hungry
fans. The money raised will
be used toward the renova-
tions being made at the hall.
The Agricultural Society
greatly appreciates the en-
thusiastic, untiring efforts of
the members and the support
of the community in making
this tournament a success.

Mrs. Inez Howe of Tillson-
burg, her daughter, Mrs.
Judy Williams and grandson,
Ricky Williams also of Til-
lsonburg spent a few days
last week with Mrs. Howes
father, Frank Moulton and
Lil MacDonald.
Sympathy is extended to
the Eedy families on the
death of their cousin, 46 year
old Newton D. Yundt, Monk -
ton on July 27.
Mrs. Jos. Marks, Wind-
sor, called on Mr.. Mel Jones
on Saturday.
Three sisters, Mrs. Jack
Curran, Mrs. Vernon Hunter
of Lucknow and . Mrs. Lou
Parker of Washington visited
their cousin, Mrs. Cecil
Blake in Dungannon and
Mrs. Louis McHardy in
Goderich Hospital on Thurs-
day.
Mr, and Mrs. Wilmer
King of Alger, Michigan
spent fast week with Mr. and
Mrs. Wilfred Pentland. The
two couples are winter neigh-
bours in Florida.
Congratulations to Mr.
and Mrs. Rod Jarvis (nee
Jean Stothers) on the birth of
a baby girl, Dana Kathleen, 7
lb. 10 oz., in Alexandra
Hospital, Goderich on Aug-
ust 2, 1978.
Kathy Stothers and Ken
Isard of Calgary are home
with Kathy's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Bob Stothers, for a
holiday.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wool -
ford, Kincardine; Warren
and Craig Bamford of Cam-
bridge spent Sunday with the
Stothers _ family at Cedar
Grove Beach.
Sympathy is extended to
the family of Andrew Gaunt
who died in Wingham and
District Hospital on August
5, 1978, in his 81st year. He
is survived by his wife. (the
former Tillie Sherwood), his
son, Murray Gaunt, M.P.P.,
Wingham; sister, Lila (Mrs.
Ward Shickiuna), Mississau-
ga; brothers John of Edmon-
ton and Earle of Goderich;
and two grandchildren.
Mrs. W. A. Stewart ac-
companied Mr. and Mrs.
Wm. J. Stothers of Goderich
to attend the funeral of their
cousin, Mrs. Bert (Laura)
Greer in Paisley recently.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ott and
family of Kitchener and his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ott of
Listowel visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Irvine Eedy last Wed-
nesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Caesar,
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Stewart,
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Alton
spent ten days in the West
recently. They went by plane
to Calgary where they rented
a car and droye to Vancouver
and on to Vancouver Island
calling on friends and rela-
tives, then flew home.
Mrs, Betty Hamilton of
Stratford spent a couple of
weeks recently with her
parents Mr. and Mrs.. Wm.
Berry, Mrs. Isabel Brennan
of London was up for a
couple of days during that
time and they visited rela-
tives at Harriston one day
before leaving.
Mrs. Thos. Webster went
in to Wingham Hospital by
ambulance on Saturday ev-
ening.
Weekend visitors with
Rev. C. G. and Mrs. West -
haver were members of their
family, Mr. and Mrs. Dwaine
MacDonald, Anne Marie and
Scott of Kingston; Mr. and
Mrs. David Mitchell and
baby Lisa; Miss Carol West -
haver of Toronto. The West -
havers visited their daughter
and son-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Richard Lemon of
Dundalk on Sunday evening.
Richard Thomson was tak-
en to Goderich Hospital on
Sunday after he collapsed at
church on Sunday morning.
Richard and Peter Thom-
son are visiting their grand-
father in England.
Mr. Howard Godfrey is in
Alexandra Hospital, Goder-
ich since the middle of the
week.
Mrs. D. S. Fines . of
Toronto is visiting this week
with her sister-in-law, Mrs.
Cecil Blake.
Mrs. Mary Bere and Jamie
returned on Friday evening
from a two week trip to P.E.I.
with Mrs. Ruth Austin of
Toronto and Miss Joanne.
Renaud of WinHdsor. They
enjoyed a guided tour of
Montreal, a day of sight-see-
ing in Quebec City and five
days with friends on the
north shore of P.E.I. They
attended the plays, "Anne of
Green Gables" and "The
Legend of the Dumbells', at
the Charlottetown Festival at
Confederation Centre of the
Arts.
Mr. and Mrs. Gus Worthy
of Thorndale called on their
cousins Mr. and Mrs. Gra-
ham McNee recently.
Harvey Cloutier of Toronto
spent the weekend with his
daughter and family, Mr.
and Mrs. Alex Chisholm and
Jack.
Mrs. Alex Chisholm open-
ed her home on August 3rd
for a bridal shower for Miss
Virginia Chisholm, bride-to-
be at which her girl friends
had an opporunity to show
their good wishes with ap-
propriate gifts.
Mrs. Eleanor McNeil, Lon-
don and Mrs. Marie Huff
hosted a bridal shower on
Monday, August 7 for rela-
tives in honour of two
brides-to-be, their niece,
Miss Annette Hodges and
Miss Susan Koster, fiancee
to Watson HIM. Both girls
received many beautiful and
useful gifts.
The Bill Park family held a
surprise birthday for Mrs.
Marie Park on Sunday at
which all her family were
present, also Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Schultz and Terry of
Huron Haven; Mr. and Mrs.
Roy Ashton of Goderich.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Park,
Todd and Brad took a 1700
mile motor trip to Northern
Ontario last week. They saw
the lift locks in ' the Trent
Canal system at Kirkfield,
largest of that type.
At the church service in
Dungannon United Church
on Sunday, July 30, attention
was directed to the stained
glass window in memory of
Miss Celia Pentland, not a
stained glass window was
dedicated in memory of Miss
Celia Pentland as stated in
last week's Dungannon col-
umn. This was an errorin
editing and we apologize for
any inconvenience it may
have caused.
Barbeque honours newleyweds

Congratulations to the
newly weds Mr. and Mrs.
Wallace Houston who were
married on Friday evening.
Family and friends from
near and far gathered at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Ken
Houston on the weekend for
a two day barbeque. They,
barbequed a side of beef on
Saturday and the other side
on Sunday. Joy and Ken say
that at least 500 guests
enjoyed the delicious meal
and lots, of others just
dropped in for a visit and left
without eating. The guests of
honour were Mr. and Mrs.
Wally Houston. A good time
was enjoyed by everyone.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Stever
enjoyed a holiday last week
at Burke Falls. Doug visited
with his sister, Mr. and Mrs.
Don Kuntz of Kitchener at
the beginning of the week.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard
Clark have returned home
from motoring to the east
coast which they enjoyed
very much.
Mr. and Mrs. Brian Keith
of Toronto visited with Mr.
and Mrs. Evan Keith for the
weekend.
Douglas Graham is visiting
in Pilot Mound, Manitoba
and will attend a Graham
reunion.
Mrs. Philip Steer has
returned home from England
where she visited for five
weeks with her sister and
other relatives.
Mrs. Bob Bregman has
returned home after visiting
with relatives in Edmonton.
She flew out west for one
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Greg Welch
and Mr. and Mrs. Barry
Johnston attended the open-
ing evening of Southampton
Museum which was very
interesting and enjoyable.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Bell and
family are holidaying at the
lake. at Amberley this week.
Mary Anne Ritchie is
visiting with her sister Bren-
da Barkley of Stratford for a
few days.
UNIQUE SHOWER
A unique shower was
recently held at Kairshea
Hall to honour Anne and
Ruth Graham, daughters of
'Mr. and Mrs. Allan Graham
on their approaching marri-
ages. Elizabeth Dickie wel-
comed the large group of
friends and relatives and
with Blanche Needham at the
piano and Marilyn Maclntyre
leading, the program began
with a lively sing -song. The
Maclntyre sisters sang two
fitting 'trios. Betty Colwell
gave a thoughtful reading
and Anne Eadie conducted
two interesting contests. Po-
ems addressed to each of the.
brides-to-be were read by
Blanche Needham and Ann
MacDougall before they op-
ened the many miscellaneous
gifts. The girls made .fitting
replies and included their
future addresses, Ruth's in
Halifax and Anne's in Cal-
gary. A tasty lunch and social
time concluded this pleasant
evening.
Weekend guests with Mr.
and Mrs. Ira Dickie at their
building site included Mr.
and Mrs. Russell Beacock of
Wiarton and Mr. and Mrs.
Walter Dickie of Agincourt.
Kinloss scores another run as backcatcher, Jane Day, of the CKNX Try Hards readies to
catch the ball thrown home. The Kinloss Slow Pitch team won the game 8 - 2 at the Slow
Pitch, Hall Tournament In Dungannon on the weekend. 16 teams participated in the event
sponsored by the Dungannon Agricultural Society. Kingsbridge won the Class A trophy and
Kincardine won the Chung B.

About 30 swimmers swam 50 lengths of the pool each to raise money to offset the cost of
heating the Lucknow Swimming Pool at a Swim-a-thon on Saturday. Lynn Murray, Lucknow,
was one of the participatns.. Statistics and the amount raised will be published next week.
