Wednesday, August 9, 1978—Page 17 Ripley -Huron Playgroung youngsters enjoy trip BY AB WYLDS The Ripley -Huron Play- ground Summer School en- joyed a trip down to Lake Huron last Wednesday. Then on Friday they held a car wash at the new Huron Township garage at the east end of Malcolm Street. In the days before and after these events they have been busy building booths for their Penny Carnival which will be held today, Wednesday, August 9th from ten to two in Gore Park. Included in the events is a fortune teller, various games, a circus performance, white elephant sale, a green thumb table, and a bake sale with the _public invited. In their trip • down to the Lighthouse at Point Clark the 35 girls and boys were transported in cars driven by the three leaders Barb Grubb, Marilyn Stewart, and Anne Farrell and also taking cars were Mrs. Betty (Ivan) Cook, Mrs. Marilyn .(Bob) Johnston, and Mrs. Wendy (Brian) Pollock. All enjoyed the outing at the Lighthouse - a reminder of the Ripley Church picnics down there in the past. Again the news of the sudden passing of a respect- ed citizen spread across the community. Ben Farrell, of the Clark's area, concession 12 west in Huron Township, passed away last Wednesday morning in Kincardine and District Hospital. The funeral service at the the Ripley MacKenzie and MeCreath Funeral Home was conduct- ed by Rev. Gerald Paul of Kincardine United Church last Friday afternoon with interment in Kincardine Cemetery. Ben was. born on July 27, 1900 in Huron Township and passed away Wednesday, August 2, 1978. He is survived by his son, Stewart, concession 10, Hur- on Township, and two daughters, Donna, Mrs. Jack Harrison of Vancouver, B.C. and Edith, Mrs. Litt of Stratford, one brother Walter of , Kincardine and three sisters; also 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Ben will long be remembered as the tenor singer in the well known Clark's Quartet and also that he used to win the tenor solo class in the Bruce County Music Festivals. He will be missed in the com- munity. Sympathy is extend- ed to the family at this time of bereavement. Principal of the Ripley Huron Central School, Mr. Floyd Stanley, spent the month of July attending summer school at Brock University in St. Catharines. Floyd successfully completed his fourth and final course andwas awarded a supervis- or's certificate in Physical and Health Education. While there he also won both the badminton and squash tour- naments held at the summer school - no small feat, Visiting with Frank and Rita Zipfel, Debbie and Shanda for two weeks is their daughter, Priscilla Zipfel of the Canadian Armed Forces Base at Chilliwack, B.C. Also visiting with them is their friend and former Ripleyite Miss Donalda MacKinnon of Detroit. Many people were away from Ripley for the Civic holiday weekend. On Friday morning Mr. Kenneth Mac- Lennan accompanied by his mother, Mrs. Norma Mac- Lennan, left on a motor trip to Kentucky. Here they will visit with Kenneth MacLeod of Catlettsburg. He is the last member of a former 6th concession family in Huron Township. Rev. and Mrs. Hugh Nugent and family of Ripley are on their summer vaca- tion. For the month of August Knox Church servic- es are combined with those in St. Andrew's Church. During July it was the other way around, when Rev. and Mrs. Jim Bushell and family had their holidays. Last Sunday Paul Henderson spoke to a capacity crowd in St. Andrews. The Kincardine Hydro truck was in Ripley last Fast Unloading Premium for Io.2 grade Trucks available Thursday and Friday when workment John Adams and Earl Kay replaced the rotted hydro pole in front of Redvers Johnson's place with -a new pole and made the necessary transfer of wires and street light to the new pole. Sweeping glass splinters on the pavement at Ripley's main intersection around seven last Friday evening were Sharon Bolte of the Kinlou,h area, village fore- man Donnie Peterbaugh, and Ab Wylds. It seems that a vehicle rounding the corner had its rear window smashed by a lawn mower handle. Visiting last Thursday • afternoon with Miss Christ- ena Robertson at her home in Ripley were her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Robertson and daughter, Sheila, of Alliston, Bobby Robertson of the tenth of Huron and Wildon Robertson of Blue - vale. Mr. and Mrs. Jack John- son of Ripley accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lawrie of Bruce on a weekend trip to Port Elgin and then on to Haliburton. On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Gardner and sons, Aaron and Brandon of Van- astra visited with Donnie and Carol Fludder. Last Sunday morning George and Joy , McLean, with his mother, Mrs. Jennie McLean, motored north from Ripley to the Lion's Head district where they visited with relatives for the Civic Holiday. The sudden passing of Mrs. Ann Mason last Sunday morning, August 6, in Kin- cardine and District Hospit- al, wa startling as the news spread in this community. The fun ral service was held yesterda afternoon, Tues- day, Au ust 8 at the -Mac- Kenzie and McCreath Funer- al Home with Rev. Gerald Paul of Kincardine in charge, followed by interment in Ripley Cemetery. She is survived by two daughters and two sons, Ruby, Mrs. Ray Walden of Huron Town- ship; Marjorie, Mrs. Lynn Farrell of Kincardine Town- ship; Kenneth of Huron Park and Hugh of the second concession,_ Huron Town- ship; also - 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. To all these sympathy is extended at this time of bereavement. As a girl, she attended S. S. 5 School on the sixth concession west in Huron Township. She was born on October 8, 1903 in Elderslie Township. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lohnes have returned to their home in. Ripley after spending a week's holidays in and around Trenton where they visited with Earl's relatives. Miss Sharon Coiling of London spent a few days with her mother, Mrs. Katherine Coiling in Ripley. She was happy to have successfully completed her course in Sociology at the University of Windsor. Paul Henderson, well known hockey player, spoke to a large congregation in St. Andrew's United Church in Ripley last Sunday morning. Rev.
