Frank Sullivan is 90

Mr. Frank Sullivan, Kings -
bridge's oldest resident, cel-
ebrated his 90th birthday on
Tuesday, July 25, 1978.
Frank was. born to John E.
and Catherine (Finn) Sulli-
van, the sixth child of a
family of eight, four sons and
four daughters. They were
Thomas, Patrick, John,
Mary, ' Catherine (Gig),
Frank, Annie and Elizabeth
(Lizzie). Frank is the last
surviving member of this
family. He was born at
Kingsbridge on the same
property he is now residing
with his nephew Peter J.
Vogt, Mrs. Vogt and family.
Frank's great grandfather,
Jeremiah Sullivan, and his
grandparents, Thomas and
Mary (Reynolds) Sullivan,
and children Jerry and Mary
left County Kerry, Ireland
and came to Syracuse, New
York. Later they moved on
and settled at what is now
known as Kingsbridge.
Frank has a keen memory,
a quick step and is well liked
by all who know him. Frank
tells many stories and hap-
penings, one of which is
when Sam Roach of Dungan-
non delivered bread to the
door for Sc a loaf.
Frank has enjoyed good
health., having only been
hospitalized three times
within ,the last two years.
Frank fell and broke hiship
after visiting friends at
Marian Villa, in London on
March 16, 1978, but was only
in the hospital a month.
Using a cane fora few weeks,
Frank now gets around faster
than most folks half his age.
To show their esteem for
Frank, open house was held
at his home in Kingsbridge
on Wednesday, July 26 both
afternoon and . evening.
Friends from far and near
called bringing "Birthday
Wishes" and gifts. A music-
al program was supplied by
many of the talented: D. A.
MacLennan of Lochalsh
played the bagpipes; violin
selections by Wilfred Hogan,
Goderich, Basil Hogan, Fin-
lay MacDonald and Ray •
Dalton; piano selections by
Martina (Hussey) Schneiker,
Goderich; Mrs. Pearl (Mac-
Intyre) Cole, Tiverton; Mrs.
Berrrardine (O'Loughlin;
Kinney; and Finlay MacDon-
ald; songs were sung by
Eugene Frayne, Ray Dalton
and Finlay MacDonald.

Reeve . of Ashfield Township
addressed Frank with a few
well chosen words. Mrs.
Bernardine Kinney present-
ed Frank with a gift of
life -membership from the
Kingsbridge Genealogical
Society.
• While Frank blew out the
candles on the, birthday cake,
everyone sang "Happy
Birthday" and "For He's A
Jolly Good Fellow". A light
lunch was served by the
ladies in charge.
Friends were present from
Detroit, Michigan; Rochest-
er, Michigan; Underwood,
Tiverton, Goderich, Lucknow
and the surrounding areas.
Reverend Father Ed Den-
tinger, C.R. escaped serious
injury on Monday, July 24.
Father was inspecting the
tombstones in the St. Augus-
tine Cemetery and shook one
to see if it needed fixing. The.
cross fell glancing off the
right side of Father's face,
cutting his eye and bruising
his face, and shoulder. He
was alone , at the time and
drove himself to the Lucknow
Medical Centre where he
received several stitches.
Father is wearing dark
glasses to cover up the
"Shiner".
Mr. and Mrs. J. L.
O'Loughlin of Rochester,
Michigan visited .during the
past week, with his sister,
Mrs. Bernardine Kinney.
Mrs. Marie (Courtney)
Judge, her daughter, Mrs.
Nina (Judge) Bentley and
granddaughters. Velda Kay
and Jody Kim . of Jackson,
Michigan arrived on Mon-
day, July 24 to spend
holidays with her sisters, Mr.
and Mrs: John Austin, Mr.
and Mrs. Con Hogan and
with her brothers, Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Courtney, Mr. and
Mrs. Leo Courtney and their
families. They returned to
their home on Friday, July
28.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Knapp
of Tecumseh, Ontario visited
with' Mrs. Bernardine Kin-
ney and Mr. and Mrs. J. L.
O'Loughlin on Wednesday of
last week. ,
Francis and Leona Hogan
visited with their sisters,
Kathleen and Anita Hogan in
Calgary, Alberta and with
their many friends from
Ashfield now living in Cal-
gary. They also took, in the
Calgary Stampede.
Frank Riegling returned to
his home in Whitelaw, Alber-
ta on Monday, July 24
following a weeks vacation
with his parents Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Riegling and. the,
Riegling families.
Several from this area
visited the 8th annual Craft
Festival at Lucknow on
Friday and Saturday, July 28
and 29, took advantage of the
Sepoy Sidewalk Sale and best
of all the dance at the
Community Centre with
nusic for dancing by . Wil -
bee's Orchestra.
Congratulations to Mr.
and Mrs. Tim Reurink, R. R.
7 Lucknow, who celebrated
their 25th wedding anniver-
sary with a family dinner on
Sunday, July 30. The 23

Mr. and Mrs. Reurink were
married at Blake's Church,
Ashfield on August 1, 1953.
Mrs. Garnett Eskritt and
son, Hugh, of Listowel and
Shirley Philips were Sunday
afternoon, July 30, visitors
with Mr. and Mrs. Tim
Reurink and Karen.
The best two out of three
baseball playoff series began
Monday, July 31 with the
Kingsbridge Girls Team
playing against Dungannon.
Players on the Kingsbridge
girls team are: pitcher, Tory

Vogt; with relief catcher,
Anita Doherty; first base,
Linda (Tito) Sinnett; second
base, Jean. Vogt; third base,
Jane Graham; short stop,

Games are played on Mon-
day and Wednesday even-
ings. Do come out and give
the girls your support. It's
fun to watch.
Members of the Kings-
bridge- Youth Club attended
the Youth dance held at St.
Mary's parish, Goderich on
Saturday, July 29.
Jackie Dalton has returned
to her home following a
month's vacation with her
sister, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie
Chilton and family at Moos-
onee, Ontario.
Dennis O'Neill returned to
his home in New Brunswick
on Monday, July 31 following
a few weeks holidays at
the home of his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. James O'Neill and
family.

The Kingsbridge Catholic
Women's League meeting
was held in St. Joseph's
Parish Hall, on Monday,
evening. Mrs. Elizabeth
Howard, president, chaired
the meeting with Father
Dentinger opening it with the
League Prayer.
Mary Clare gave the
financial report. Thank you
notes were read from Father
Dentinger, Jackie Dalton,
Mary Crawford, the Tom
O'Neill family, Bolovian Mis-
sions and The Church Today.
Answering the roll call by
Betty Doherty were 16 mem-
bers.
The possibility of bringing
Mrs. Wamsley from the
Lucknow Nursing Home to
'the Parish for a visit (perhaps
with 'the use of a van) was
discussed.
Anne Marie Howard was
congratulated on being an
Ontario Scholar at Goderich
District Collegiate Institute
and has won a $1500.00
bursary to the Guelph
University. Tommy Gilmore
was also congratulated for
winning the All Canadian
Solo Class in baton twirling
and the overall award with a
perfect score. Tommy receiv-
ed a telegram of congratu-
lations from the president of
the United States Baton
Twirlers. Congratulations
are to be sent from the
League.
A lovely plaque has been
given to Irene and Dennis
Dalton on the occasion of
their 40th wedding anniver-
sary. There was a discussion
concerning gifts for newly-
weds.
The Girl Guides are plan-
ning a two day hike perhaps
to Owen Sound and they may
run a car wash to raise
money. The guides had a
surprise party for their
leader, Joanne Menary to
give her a small gift for the
expected baby.
In his talk, Father Den-
tinger thanked the guide
leaders for the dedication, •
the caters and all who work
for the C.W.L. Father noted
that the summer visitors
liked to be asked to partici-
pate in . the mass and the
community.
The ladies are still selling
tickets on a quilt to be drawn
at the annual meeting of the
Pro Life in October.
Loretta Doherty, Grace
Austin and Clarice Dalton
offered to do extra baking for
the garage sale. The meeting
closed with prayer followed
by lunch. A social hour
followed.
