Families gather for summer reonions
SHERWOOD PICNIC
The seventeenth annual
reunion of the descendants of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
G. Sherwood was held at the
Women's Institute Hall, Bel -
grave on Sunday, July 16,
197$ with a good attendance.
After a bountiful noon
lunch, a short business
session was held followed by
visiting and games, the latter
being in charge of Largaret
and Iiinda McInnes.
Some of the prizes award-
ed were for the oldest person
present, Mrs. Marie Morri-
son; the youngest, Mark
Kerr, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Gary Kerr; Dan McInnes
guessed the number of
pennies in a jar; Mrs.
Chester Finnigan guessed
the year of the oldest penny
in the jar; Mrs. Dan McInnes
had ',on the most colours;
Mrs. Mildred Henry had the
most grandchildren for her
generation.
A minute's silence was
observed in memory of those
who have passed away within
the last year.
For next year the president
is Miss Myrtle Johnstone;
secretary -treasurer, Mrs.
Dan McInnes; lunch commit-
tee, Mrs. Winnifred Girvin-
Baric in .1958

BURT REUNION
The ninth annual Burt
reunion and picnic was held
on Saturday, July 15, 1978,
at, 2 p.m. at the Park in
Hanover with 72 attending.

ang, Mrs. Annie Green,
Teeswater, Mr. and Mrs. Bill

berta, St. Catharines, Holy -
rood, London, St. Thomas,
Oshawa, Kincardine, Vict-
oria, Elmwood, Innerkip,
Vancouver, B.C. and Co-
bourg.
The afternoon was spent
visiting, swimming, ball
games . and sports.
Bill Burt asked the bless-
ing and everyone enjoyed a
bountiful meal.
A short meeting followed
KAIRSHEA W.I.
The July meeting of Kair-
shea Women'sinstitute was
a yearly event - a bus trip. At
8 a.m., Thursday, July 20th,
45 persons boarded the
Montgomery bus, with Cecil
Garniss the driver.
First stop at 10.30 a.m.
was Black Creek Pioneer
Village. Here they spent two
very hot hours rambling their
way through the village as it
was 100 years ago. At 12.30
they had lunch in the park at
the village.
Leaving there they jour-
neyed on to McMichael
Canadian Collection at Klein -
burgh where they viewed
some of 700 works by
Canada's most famous art-
ists, including Group of
Seven and Tom Thomson.
From here they went to
Square 1, for three hours of
shopping, where it was a
great relief from the heat.
At 7.15 the group boarded
the bus for home, tired and
weary, but having enjoyed
the day.
ST. HELENS U.C.W.
St. Helens United Church
Women met on June 18,
2 1978. The group took advan-
tage of the hot, summer day
to have a picnic on the back
lawn of the manse.
Mrs. Gordon McPherson
was in charge of the business
meeting and 'it was decided
to cancel the August meeting
and meet again at Isabel
Miller's home in September.
Mrs. Cook . joined the
group for lunch which
brought an end to a very
pleasant afternoon.

for the 1979 picnic.

Harold , McKnight and Eva
and Jim Burt.
All agreed to meet July 21,
1979 at 2 p.m. at the Hanover
Park for the tenth annual
Burt reunion.
SILVER LAKE 4..H
The fourth meeting of the,
Silver Lake Bar-B-Cuties was
held on July 18th. The club
met at the home of Jean
Hedley and proceeded to
travel to Schmidt Lake near
Chepstow for an Identifying
Trip.
The leaders pointed out
various edible wild plants
such as Iamb's quarters,
milkweed buds, fiddle heads
and cat tails. They also
pointed out different birds,
insects and the remains of, a
beaver dam.
When reaching the dock
the club discussed such
things as how to identify
trees and poisonous plants.
Jean Hedley demonstrated
how to make a book mark
using pressed flowers on
cardboard covered by clear
mactac.
Susan Hedley read the
instructions for making
parchment paper.
Mary Stanley readthe
minutes of the last meeting.
President, Vicki Young ad-
jouned the meeting..
LUCKNOW 4-H CALF CLUB
Exchange delegates from
Wisconsin were present . at
the Lucknow 4-H calf club
meeting on July 3 at Ashfield
Park.
Delegates Cindy Van Mat -
re, Susanne Larson, and
Donna Gordon attended.
• After a softball game, they
enjoyed a weiner roast with
the president thanking Ken
and Ruth Alton for organiz-
ing the lunch. A short
business meeting was then
conducted.
