The people of West Africa
TOP: Winneba, where Betty
lived, looks like a Caribbean
Island with its beaches and
palm trees. The homes are
cement with metal roofs and
as it is a fishing village, the
little clay huts with their
removable straw roofs are
used by the villagers for
smoking fish.
MIDDLE: On a trip along the
ivory coast ilast summer,
Betty, [in the middle], travel-
led by canoe into the rain
forest area, west of Win-
neba, to a water village,
where the houses are built on
stilts and catching parrots, to
be sold as pets, is the chief
Industry.
BOTTOM: When Currie vis-
ited his daughter, Betty, last
Christmas, they travelled to
Mopti and Timbukto in the
Sahara Desert/where the
Tarquary people, whb travel
around the desert on camels,
live in shelters of grass mats
woven together.
