MAE BELLE STUART
Mae celebrates 90th birthday
Mae Belle Stua -t is cele-
brating her 90th birthday,
July 26, 1978. -
A quick minded lady
whose memory can recall the
first time she went out to
dinner following her marri-
age, Mae enjoys good health
and lives alone in her • home
on Ross Street..
She says she can hardly
believe she's 90 because she
feels much younger and she
attributes a long life to her
enjoyment of life and her
very good neighbours.
She is celebrating today
with her neighbours in St.
Helens, where she nd her
late husband, G rge. M.
Stuart, farme or 40 years
befdre moving to Lucknow.
She laughs when she tells
how her former neighbour,
Mary Foran, called to invite
her to the party in her honour
and told her no matter what
else she had planned for the
day, she was to cancel it, and.
come to celebrate with her
neighbours in St. Helens.
Mae loves music and she
and her husband used to
provide the music for many a
party and wedding in the St.
Helens area. Her husband
played the saxophone and
the violin and she plays the
piano. She still plays every
day and finds her music a
real comfort 'when she cannot
sleep at night. She finds that
she does not require as much
sleep as some people do and
feels refreshed in the morn-
ing even if she cannot sleep
through the night. She will
sometimes be playing the
piano at three in the morn-
ing.
She finds that through the
years of her life,some things
have advanced for the better,
some things have not. Living
is much faster now and she
wonders why we don't take
time fo'r things. Life should
have so much more time
because of the many modern
conveniences. "In my day we,
didn't have to be invited to
someone's home, .we just
went. But we don't do that
anymore'," she observes.

ttt
Lucknow when they retired
and lived • with Catherine
until the home on Ross Street
was completed and- they

She sighs when she speaks
of her husband's death in
1966 and says it, is still a sad
Thing for her to speak of and
She misses him.
Many relatives travelled
long •distances to be with
