Wednesday, Jane 28, 1978 Trinity United presents awards Trinity United Church SundaySchool held its annu- al church service and awards Sunday on June 25, 1978 at 11• a.m. Frank Alton, the superintendent gave the call to worship. The prayer of approach was given by Elizabeth Wilkins. The primary and kinder- garten classes sang "God Sees the Little Sparrow Fall" and Jesus Loves Me", fol- lowed by prayer by Donna Raynard and Michelle Gib- son. The scripture was read by Michael McCann, Brenda Hackett, George Alton and Patty Barger. The junior class told about each of the twelve disciples read by Steven and Suzanne Alton, Kenny Wilkins, Paul Hackett and Dianne Rayn- ard. The primary juniors sang "The Bible Tells Me So". The offering was taken up by Kevin Alton and Cindy Nixon. The loose collection from the offering went to- wards the support of the LUCKNOW PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Rev. Wm. Munshaw B.A. M.Div. The message was given by the junior high and senior high classes. They gave a brief outline on each of the 39 books in the Old Testament. Evelyn Hackett presented certificates to Diane Rayn- ard, Steven Alton and Kenny Wilkins for memory work in the primary catechism. Sher- ry Alton then presented the plaque of the prayer of serenity for completion of the senior catechism to Elizabeth Wilkins, Kevin Alton and Patty Barger. Brenda Hack- ett and George Alton receiv- ed a bible for learning half catechism. Rev. Cook closed the service following the presentation of awards with the benediction. Those with perfect attend- ance at Trinity were Warren Andrew, Scott Hackett, Don- na Scott, Suzanne Alton, Kenny Wilkins, Paul Hack- ett. 27th Dominion Legion convention The 27th Dominion Con- vention of the Royal Canad- ian Legion was opened on Sunday, June 11th with a very impressive parade of over 2,000 delegates. Ontario Command had 685 accredit- ed delegates plus their wives and observers attending the convention. Princess Margriet of the Netherlands opened the con- vention at the Kinsmen Field House. She was born in Canada during the Second World War and the Royal Canadian Legion is Godfath- er to her young son. The delegates attended business sessions from Mon- day to. Thursday with closing. ceremonies at . noon on Thursday. The ladies were bussed to various Legion branches on Monday for a luncheon. On Tuesday they were taken on a bus tour of the city followed by a wine and cheese party in thenew stadium. A banquet and dance for about 5,000 was' held on Wednesday evening in the Coliseum. Attending the convention from the Lucknow Legion were Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Thompson, Mt. and Mrs. Irvine Eedy, Mr. and Mrs. Angus MacDonald and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ritchie. RDOP SURVEY-- Anne Stewart, Muriel Taylor, Doreen Taylor and Gail Pritchard are going to be working in Ashfield, West Wawanosh, East Wawanosh, Turnberry, Morris and Howick Townships this summer, studying the needs of those people who consider themselves to be homebound. The study is being jointly sponsored by the Day Centre for the Homebound in Huron and the Rural Development Outreach Project at the University of Guelph. [Wingham Advance -Times Photo] Bruce Presbyterial has Bruce Presbyterial United Church Women sponsored a "Retreat" with the theme "Wonder - A ' Christian Response to God and His Gifts" on June 13th at Silver Lake Camp east of Kinloss. Approximately 80 ladies from the locals within the Presbyterial enjoyed the ev- ent. Due to inclement weath- er most of the activities were held indoors. Registration was in charge of Mrs. Robt. Young and Mrs. Murray Byers. Litera- ture Secretary, Mrs. Clar- ence McClenaghan, and her assistants, Mrs..Frank Bax- ter and Mrs.. Alex Heard, were in charge of the sale of devotional books and pamph- lets throughout the day. Mrs. Margaret Banner- man and Mrs. Evelyn Hod- gins of Kinloss U.C.W. served cookies and coffee. Mrs. C. Prayers were offered by group lead- ers, Mesdames Arnold Proud, A. B. Eagles, Sheldon Wolfe, C. E. Tupper, Robt. Young, Tom Caley, Gerald Paul, Murray Byers, and D. A. Brydon. Mrs. Ronald Slade, Lead- ership Division Chairman, introduced Rev. Gerald Paul, of Kincardine United Church, Retreat Co-ordinat- or. Rev. Paul gave a brief meditation on "Wonder and Awe in Worship", following which, discussion groups were formed to discuss various facets of Wonder and Awe found in the Bible. Prior to the lunch break the members meditated in solitude. Members of the .South- ampton U.C.W. received the retreat offering which was dedicated by Mrs. D. A. Brydon. A member of the Board of Directors of Silver Lake Camp, Mrs. Margaret Ban- nerman, gave an interesting account of its history. The afternoon session dealt with Wonder and Awe in Poetry, and Rev. Paul stressed the value of poetry in our everyday lives. He recited several poems, and many members shared their favourite poems or Bible verses as well. A simple Holy Communion was shared . by all and dedicated by Rev. Paul who also pronounced the benedic- tion. Mrs. " Tupper expressed the appreciation of the group to Rev. Paul, and the Retreat came to a close.
