Commander Gordon McDonald was in charge and guest speaker was District Commissioner, Rev. Stewart Dunter, from Burling- ton. Badges were given out and Commander in Chief. Gilbert VanSligtenhurst, thanked the leaders for their time and effort over the season. Ripley W.I. holds tartan tea Ripley Women's institute held a very successful "Tart- an Tea, Wednesday, June 14, in the Ripley Legion Hall. The proceeds were for Kin- cardine and District General Hospital. Mrs. Walter Lock acted as convener, assisted by Mrs. Walter Culbert, Mrs. Donald Blue, Mrs. Violet MacKenzie and Mrs. Francis Gemmell. The hall was tastefully arranged by Mrs. J. Kirkpat- rick, and Mrs. Frank Scott. Tables were centred with floral arrangements done by Mrs. E. Fair and Mrs. Mary J. A. MacDonald. A hostess was seated at each table to pour tea. These were Mrs. Lot Culbert, Mrs. M. Wylds, Miss Gertrude Kidney, Mrs. E. Lohnes, Mrs. Mary. L. A. MacDonald, Mrs. George Cornish, Mrs. W. J. MacKay and Mrs. Neil MacLennan. Those assisting as wait- resses were Mrs. C. Bushell, Mrs. B. Gamble, Mrs. P. Chapelle, Mrs. D. MacLean, Mrs. M. Cook. Mrs. Francis Gemmell, Mrs. Donald Blue, and Mrs. Nick Peet were in charge of the kitchen. Mrk. Joe Scott, Mrs. Mary D. MacDonald, Mrs. C. Hed- ley and Mrs. E. Fair looked after the bake tables. • Mrs. Violet MacKenzie was saleslady for the raffle tickets, and Mrs. Kennedy of the Bruce County Tartan drew the winners name. Mrs. Ambrose Gamble was the lucky one to receive the pendant. The Bruce County Tartan display was set up by Mrs. William Arnold and Mrs. Kennedy, which was very beautiful and colourful. Mrs. Walter Culbert took tickets at the door, and guests were received by Mrs. Walter Lock, president of Ripley W.I., and Miss Chris- tine Robertson, secretary of the W.I. Iiinlough BY MAY BOYLE Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Fairhall of Glen Orchard visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Maulden during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Percy were •guests • at the 35th wedding anniversary party for Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Thompson at their home. Mrs. Margaret Wilkinson and Mrs. B. Boast of Ipswich, Suffolk, England arrived by plane on Sunday and are enjoying a holiday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Maulden and Keith. Margaret is Frank's sister. This is her second trip to Canada. Mr. and Mrs. Weir Ecken- swiller were to London on the weekend attending her sis- ter's anniversary. Congratulations are ex- tended ,from friends in this area to Mr. and Mrs. Alex Whytock who had "Open House" at their home at Teeswater on Sunday to mark their Golden Wedding. Mrs. Irene MacKenzie, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Scott, Edna and May Boyle were dinner guests on Saturday with Dr. and Mrs. D'arcy Bruce at Owen Sound. Mrs. MacKenzie will visit at the Bruces' this week before she returns to her home at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Miss Winnifred Percy and Mrs. Mary Campbell return- ed home from an enjoyable holiday to the British Isles. Mrs. Bruce Bushell enter- tained at a relative bridal shower in honour of Miss Millions of tourists spend illions of dollars a year in Ontario. That means jobs! Would you believe it? Mrs. Alex Percy visited on Sunday with her nephew Dennis Trafford who is a patient in Victoria Hospital, London, where he is receiv- ing treatment following his unfortunate accident when his car burst into flames on Highway 9. He narrowly escaped death and suffered severe burns to his body. Mr. and Mrs. Don Gilles- pie visited with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Haldenby at Sarnia. Mr. and Mrs. Don Gilles- pie and Mr. and Mrs. Don Bushell were to Sarnia on Friday and were guests at the Walker -Gillespie wed- ding. The bride (Lorraine) is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gillespie. Visitors at the home of Mrs. Gertrude Walsh were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Barslaux of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Mr. and Mrs. John McFadyen of Kincardine. A number from here attended the Bruce Tartan Tea at Ripley on Wednesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Scott and family were dinner guests on Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Scott. Langside BY LILLIAN YOUNG Saturday night brought the worst storm of the summer with ` continuous lightning and thunder, gusty winds and heavy rain. The Co-op feed mill at Teeswater was hit and caught fire with extensive damage. Three fire engines fought the blaze. Congratulations to stud- ents at both public and high schools who passed without writing exams and good luck to those who have to write. Kelly Coughlin of the 14th of Culross spent the past weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Young. The graduation and ban- quet for the grade 8 students of Liieknow School is being held Monday evening, June 19 and at Teeswater School the graduation and banquet for Grade 8 students is being held Wednesday evening, June 21. Congratulations to all., Mr. and Mrs. Dave Moffat and family attended the wedding of their nephew, James Stewart, and Carol McIntyre of Owen Sound. The wedding was held in Knox United Church, Owen Sound last Friday evening. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Doug Ward on the arrival of a baby girl in Wingham Hospital early Fri- day morning. Congratulations also to Mr. and Mrs. Kramer of Holyrood on the birth of a baby girl last Tuesday. The 1st Holyrood Girl Guide Co. went on a hike Saturday afternoon on the farm of Lea Murray. They had a good attendance. After the hike they cooked weiners and had lunch. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Young visited with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bongertman of Lucknow on Thursday even- ing. Mr. and Mrs. Karat Van - Engen, Marco and Caroline of Holland who have been visiting with her sister Mrs. Rdelie de Boer and family left on. ._ Monday for their home in Holland.
