the fairs in Bruce and Grey
Counties. They also brought
back - Ripley's share of the
District calendars which are
now up for people to seethe
fair dates in the two counties.

Peppin from the Agricultural
Societies Branch in the
Ontario Parliament Buildings
in Toronto addressed the
meeting as did the new
district director from number
10, Iver, Clarence Lange of
Chesley, who was in charge
of the meeting as did Mrs.
Millie Hubbard. Mrs. Hub-
bard lived for the past three
years in the far north west
corner of Ontario, up on
Hudson Bay, some 800 miles
north of he*e where eggs sell
at $2.39 per dozen, gasoline
at four dollars per gallon,
and Canada goose, less any
trimmings was a regular
food. There was discussion
on plans for the Ripley Huron
fall fair. John Gamble and
Gordon Patterson moved the
meeting adjourn to meet
again July 10. During the
meeting theew treasurer,
Mrs. Gloria (Bob) Rutledge
reported on her first month
in office, giving a summary
of the concert proceeds.
John and Karen Wyld .a -re
now living in the house east
of the former Ripley station
where once his grandparents
lived. John is employed by
the Ontario Hydro at the
Bruce Nuclear Power Devel-
opment. He was one of 15
who took,a_special course and
who were moved to this area
by Hydro from Deep Riyer -
near Chalk River on the
Ottawa . River. This past
weekend their folkswere up
to Ripley from Toronto.
Mrs. Margaret Gemmell
reports that the members of
the Ripley Women's Institute
will attend a "Verna Malus-
ke" tea held in the ' Desboro
Community Centre later on
this month. Mrs. Maluske
was the first Provincial
President of the Federated
Women's Institute of Ontario
from the Grey_ Bruce area.
Last week the Field Com-
petitions in hay and pasture
sponsored jointly by the
Ontario Ministry of Agricul-
ture and Food and by the
Ripley Agricultural Society
were judged by Norman
Schmidt of Walkerton. Ac-
companying Norman was the
secretary of the Ripley Huron
Fall Fair, Ab Wylds. First in
the hay competition was the
field entered by Dennis and
Carmen Bridge of the South
Line with 92 , points, then
John C. MacDonald's field
west of Ripley on the 8th at
90, followed by John Gamble
on the sixth, 89, Hugh
Mason 881/4 on the 2nd
concession west, Donald Far-
rell on the 10th with 88 and
Bob Rutledge 871 on the
second .west. In order then
the scores were Jim Need-
ham, Wes Smith, Bob
Osborne, Keith vander
Hoek, Donald Forster, Morl-
ey Scott, Donald MacKay,
Jack Farrell, Walter Forster,
Gordon Patterson, and Rick
Smith. Jim Needham was
first in the pasture competi-
tion at 9Z then John Gamble
89, Donald Farrell 88, Wes
Smith 87, John C. MacDon=
aid 87, Jack Farrell 85',
followed in order by Donald
MacKay; Riek Smith, Gordon
Patterson, Hugh Mason, Bob
Osborne, Morley Scott, Wal-
lace. Pollock, Walter Forster
and Keith vander Hoek.
Mr. and Mrs, ''Ambrose
Gamble of Ripley spent
Saturday, June 10th in
London visiting with his
uncle Wilfred who lives in
the city. On Sunday Mr, and
Mrs. Ambrose Gamble had
Father's Day breakfast with
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Gamble
and family on the sixth east
in Huron Township, also
helping to celebrate David's
fourteenth birthday. Then
they travelled to Teeswater
where they met their daugh-
ter Josephine and husband,
Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Cronin
for a Father's Day dinner in
the Vendome Hotel in Tees -
water.
William Robertson called
in Ripley for a few' minutes
last Sunday morning on his
way back to Toronto, Bill was
up for the weekend visiting
and on Saturday evening
attended the races in Hanov-
er where a number of stables
in the Ripley -Huron area
have horses running each
week.
Visiting with Mr. and Mrs.
Ivan Cook and family in
Ripley last weekend were her
father, Mrs. Jack Swan, of
Gateway Haven in Wiarton
and Mr. Harry Middleton of
Oshawa.
A large crowd attended the
Ripley Firemen's dance .on
Saturday evening. Winners
of the door prizes were Harry
Scott of the 4th concession,
Jim MacDonald of the 12th
concession and Howard Hod-
ge of Ripley.
Mr. and Mrs. Brian Web-
ster, James, Jason and
Jeffrey of Woodstock flew up
to Ripley last Thursday to
visit his grandmother, Mrs.
Gladys Mason and his aunt
and uncle, Anne and Don
McCosh. Brian piloted the
Cherokee No. 2 plane.
Mary (Donnie) MacDonald
and Effie Sutherland visited
with their son and daughter
respectively, Farqhar and
Mae MacDonald and family
in Brampton.
Joan McLeod and Frances
Godfrey of Ripley attended
the Ontario. Horticultural
Societies convention held in
Kingston last week.
Mr, and Mrs. Eari"Lohnes
of Ripley and Miss Violet
Karn of Walkerton visited
last weekend with friends
and relatives around Embro
and on Sunday attended the
Karn Reunion at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Selby Williams

Mr. and Mrs. Spence Irwin
of Lucknow visitedd on Sun-
day with Les and Dorothy
Wardell and family on the
4th concession west in Huron
Township.
Bill Robinson of Ripley has
bought the present paint and
wall paper shop which he has
operated for the past year,
after taking over the busi-
ness from Jim Lowry. The
owners of the building were
Mike and Mildred Ashton of
Kitchener. Mrs. Ashton is
the former Mildred Wardell
and the shop was the old post
office building. Jim Lowry
started this business.
Miss Anne Colwell, Mrs.
Margaret Ferguson and Car-
ol of Lucknow, Mrs. Marjorie
Reid and Mrs. Anne McCosh
were Saturday visitors with
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Eadie.
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Emer-
son, Georgetown, visited
recently with his father, Sam
and Mrs. Enier§on.
, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Howe,
Paisley, were Wednesday
dinner visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Mervyn Hooey,
Mrs. Gladys Arnold was
pleased to have her cousin,
Miss Louise Hutchinson of
Bradford, Vermont, U.S.A.,
for a weekend.
Mrs. Marie Crawford at-
tended a surprise dinner
party for her son and
daughter-in-law, Dr. Wm. '
and Betty Crawford on
Sunday. During the weekend
Howard and Vera Heritage of
Bruce Beach visited with
Marie.
Mrs. Margaret Campbell,
Princes Court, visited with
Mr. and Mrs.- Jack MacDon-
ald and visited with other
friends on Sunday too.
