The Lucknow Sentinel, 1978-06-14, Page 28Page 28—Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday,, June 14, 1978 Mr. and Mrs. Ken Neabel - and family who have been living on highway 86 at the Rose farm have moved to their new home in Lucknow. Tour England and Majorca Russell (Buster)_and Mab- el Whitby have just returned to Lucknow after an enjoy- able trip to England. They were fortunate to be there during the best spell of fine weather for two years. The visit was not lacking in drama, asupon arrival at Gatwick Airport their main suitcase was missing and it was two days before it was recovered, having gone to Heathrow Airport in error. Other features of the trip were a party arranged by relatives and attended by them all, including Mabel's mother; brother, John; sis- ter, Jean , and family; Aunt Vera and husband, Bill, (who visited Lucknow last year); sister, Betty and husband, Maurice (who visited Luck - now in 1972). The cemetery where Bust- er's grandparents were inter- red was also visited. By remarkable coincidence when visiting an inn, two doors away from Mabel's mother, Buster was recogniz- ed by a couple from Poplar Beach who were staying at the inn. The lady recalled his having assisted her with selecting wine at the Liquor Store. Both couples were staying. in the same. small English village, simultan- eously. One week of the trip was spent on holiday at Alcudia in the Spanish Belearic Island of Majorca, accom- panied by Betty and Maurice where again local contact was made, an English lady shop assistant having rela- tives in Goderich. During this holiday visits were made to Roman ruins, an Animal Safari Park, an artificial pearl factory and the Dragon Caves - numer- ous underground caverns with huge magnificent stal- actites and stalagmites. One cavern was converted into a concert hall beside an under- ground lake on which music- ians played classical music on illuminated rowing boats in ..._otherwise ......complete. ......dark- ness, after which the boats conveyed the audience over the lake to the exit. A Round the Island trip took them by coach to Palma, thence by ancient electric train through the streets and mountains to Soller, onward by boat on the Mediterran- ean, round the rocky coast to picturesque La Calobra and finally by coach through the spiral mountain passes, cal- ling en route at the Monast- ery of our Lady of Lluch. Several new bottles were obtained for Mabel's collec- tions and hundreds of photo- graphs and colour slides were taken, thus providing lasting memories of a pleas- urable three weeks in Eng- land and Majorca, which had seen such variations as sight- ing the Supersonic Concorde airliner overhead, riding in horsedrawn carriages, and being awakened by the sound of donkeys. On Sunday, June 4, Tom- my and Rosemary Gilmore took part in the City of Guelph Baton Twirling Com- petition at the Hespeler Arena. Tommy placed first in the. Boy's Solo Division, 7 to 10 years. Next year he will move up to the 11 to 14 year olds division. The Canadette Juvenile Twirling Team, of which Tommy and Rosemary are a part, took second place. m ISEE...
