Mary Ann Miltenburg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reis Miltenburg will once again be an instructor at the Swimming Pool, in Lucknow during the summer months. Reverend Father Edwin Garvey, ' CS.B., Houston, Texas arrived on Monday, June 12 to spend two weeks vacation 'at the Garvey Homestead. Members of the combined councils of the Catholic Women's League of Kings- bridge, Lucknow and St. Augustine met at St. August- ine on Monday, June 5 at 8 p.tu. The councils first met separately with Kingsbridge Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, June 14, 1978 --Page 27 Kingsbridge Kapers in the Hall; Lucknow met in the church vestry and St. Augustine council met in the church. At the joint meeting, Mary Luanne Clare, daught- er of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Clare delivered her award winning speech on "The Holy Land". Mrs. John Austin told of the Convention held recently at the Univer- sity of Western Ontario, London and Mr. Adrian eet of Wingham spoke on boot at the upcoming Plowing Match to be held in Wing - ham from September 26 to 30. Mrs. Joe Courtney spoke briefly on the books under discussion in the high schools. This was followed by a plant sale. A delicious lunch was served by the ladies of the St. Augustine Catholic Women's League. ST. JOSEPH'S SCHOpL Monday, June 5 saw Field Day at St. Joseph's School, Kingsbridge. Placing first in the Junior Girls' events were: Vicki Doherty, 60 metres; Maria Dalton, 100 metres; Maria Dalton 200 metres; Maria Dalton 400 metres; Maria Dalton, Chris- tine Stapleton, Mary Lynn Doherty, Vioki ,Doherty, 400 metre relay;. Vicki Doherty, high jump; Maria Dalton, running long jump; Maria Dalton, standing long jump) Vickie Doherty, baseball throw. The Junior Girls' Champion was Maria Dalton with 31 points;_ second Vicki Doherty with 21 points; third Margaret Knoop with 9 points. Placing . first .in the Junior Boys' events were: Patrick Frayne, 60 metres; Patrick Frayne, 100 metres; Patrick Frayne, 200 metres; Patrick Frayne, 400 metres; .Billy Card, Patrick Frayne, Steph- en VanOsch, Tom Gilmore, 400 metre relay; Edward Plasschaert, high jump; Dar- ren Connelly, running long jump; Patrick Frayne, stand- ing long jump; Billy Card, baseball throw. The Junior Boys' Champion was Patrick Frayne with 28 points; sec- ond Billy Card with 13 points; third, Edward Plass- chaert with 12 points. Intermediate Girls' events saw Denise Connelly place first in 60 metr - s, 100 metres and 400 metr:S:•, igh jump, running long ' jump. Lisa Frayne was first in the 200 metres and the standing long jump; Liz Vogt was first in the baseball throw; the relay was won by Denise Connelly, Liz Vogt, Lisa Frayne, Teresa VanRooy; Denise Connelly placed overall first with 29 points; Lisa Frayne second with 20 points and Liz Vogt third with 9 points. ,- Brent VanOsch with 21 points came first in the Intermediate Boys' events; Casey Hendriks with 11 point's was second and Joe Gerdes third with 10 points. Brent VanOsch placed first in the 60 metres, 400 metres, running long jump; Casey Hendriks was first in the 200 metres; Joe Gerdes first in the high jump and baseball throw. Other boys placing first were Kevin Smith, 100 metres; Perry VanOsch, standing long jump. The relay was won by a team composed of Brent VanOsch, Brent Berry, Joe Gerdes and Louie Forgett. Rose Marie O'Keefe was top in the Senior Girls' competition with 24 points. She placed first in the 60 metres, 100 metres, running long jump. Jackie Dalton, second place finisher with. 19 points placed first in the 200 metre, high jump,' and the standing long jump; Jackie VanOsch placed first in the 400 metres and the baseball throw. Debbie Drennan plac- ed third'- overall. The relay was won by a team composed of Rose Marie O'Keefe, Obituary JAMES JOSEPH CUMMINS The death of James Joseph Cummins (85 years) occurred in a Lethbridge Hospital on Saturday,. May 20, 1978, following a short illness. Mr. Cummins was born and raised in St. Augustine, Ontario. He sailed for .a time on the Great Lakes, farmed in Western Canada and later engaged extensivtey in con- struction work in the U.S.A. He had lived in Lethbridge for the past nine years. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Kinahan of Allan, Saskatchewan; Mrs. D. MacMillan (Ethel) of Venice .Isle, Florida; and one brother, Mike Cummins of Lucknow, Ontario. Prayers were said for Mr. Cummins at 7.30 p.m., Tuesday, May 23. The Fun- eral 'Mass was celebrated at 1.00 p.m. Wednesday, May 24 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Father J. A. Carroll O.M.I. celebrant. Pallbearers were nephews, Mike Cummins and Bill Kinahan of Rural Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and grand nephews, Glen Bitz, Kinder- sley, Saskatchewan; Brendan Bitz, Allan, Saskatchewan; Pat Kinahan and Brian Kinahan of Lethbridge, Al- berta. A very successful and fun -filled Sunday was held at South Kinloss Church when they celebrated their 122nd anniversary with Rev. Mun- shaw as their minister. Gordon McQuillin of Sar- nia, and son, Ron, of London, visited on the weekend with Mr, and Mrs. Dick McQuillin and Ron. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Maclnnes had as visitors with them on the weekend, Mr: and Mrs. Donald Bell and daughter, Virginia, of Toronto. Reduce if overweight. Bob placed first in the 60 metres, 100 metres, high jump, running long jump, triple jump and the baseball throw; Willy Hendriks placed first in the 200 metres and the 400 metres. Both boys were on the relay team with Kevin Leddy and Jim VanOsch. Overall placings saw Bob Austin win the Senior Boys' Championship with 33 points. Willy Hendriks plac- .ed second with 23 points and Dana Doherty third with 7 points. In the 800 metres Girls' winner was Jackie Dalton and Willy Hendriks was first for the boys. Betty Knoop and Bobby Austin won the shot putt for the girls and boys. On Thursday, June 8th the Grade 7 and 8 students of St. Joseph's School, Kings- bridge and the Grade 8s of St. Mary's School, Goderich attended a Retreat at Kins- bridge in preparation for Confirmation. Father Mike Myroniuk of Kitchener was the co-ordinator. Also pres- ent were Father Dentinger, Father Loebach, Harold Zet- tler, Joanne Hamilton, Rob- erta Stemp, Ron Gladding and Dan Messa. The daya was highlighted by Mass at the closing of the day. Wednesday was Gradua- tion Day for Dave Zyluk who received his Master of Edu- cation degree from the University of Toronto. Zyluk finished his courses last summer. Congratulations Dave! On Thursday and Friday, June 8 and 9 Principal Dave Zyluk and resource teacher, Mrs. Margaret Ferguson attended a two day Work- shop on Education for the Exceptional Child at the Dublin Board Office.
