Holyrood
Happenings
BY LYNNE NICOLSON
Hello readers, hope every-
one has had a fairly ' good
week since I was last talking
to you.
This week has not been
very busy around Holyrood.
I'll try and make it inter-
esting.
Probably the most buzzing
conversation has been about
summer vacation. Kids are
looking forward to the last
day of school, when they can
kick off their shoes and go
barefoot. For most it will
probably be a well deserved
holiday.
Marlene Murray, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. D. Murray,
Holyrood and Dawn Nicol-
son, daughter of `Mrs. A.
Nicolson, •loth concession,
Holyrood, were participants
in their annual piano recital.
Marlene who is in grade 6
piano, played, Menuet, Stor-
ies of Jesus and also a duet,
Dancing Scarlet. Dawn play-
ed Fairy Court and a duet
called Dixie Doodle. Dawn is
in grade 2 in piano. Both are
students of Mrs. A. Gamble,
Ripley.
Kinloss Y C's held a very
successful car wash at Holy -
rood, Saturday, June 10.
They chargeda dollar a car
and by the end of the day had
a total of $63.00. As usual the
busiest period was just
before 5 p.m. when it was
time to end. People came
rushing in to get a last
minute wash. Many young-
sters from the area were
exhausted by the end of the -
day, but all felt it was worth
the effort. Proceeds go
towards ball equipment as
mentioned last week.
Mrs. J. Hughes from
Paisley,' Scotland, is visiting
with her daughter, Mrs. A.
Nicolson and family. It is not
her first time here but she
still finds the countryside of
Canada pleasant. Mrs.
Hughes will be here for 6
weeks.
Some from this area at=
tended the annual school
prom held at F. 'E. Madill
Secondary School. This year
the gym was decorated as an
English Ballroom complete
with, a fountain and winding
staircase.
I'll sign off this week with
a thought for the week.
A good loser is someone
who can grip the winners
hand without wishing it was
his throat.
