HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1978-06-14, Page 11Tiger Dunlop Branch hosts Huron The Tiger Dunlop Branch of the Women's Institute hosted the 78th District Annual of Huron West on May 29 in Nile United Church. About 95 women attended the meeting with guests including Mrs, Gord- on Papple who came in Mrs. L. Caffyn's place to repres- ent London Area, Mrs. Wm. Porter, board director for subdivision 23, Mrs. J. Freeman and Mrs. L. Jacqu- es of Huron East, and Mrs. R. Drummond. and Mrs. M. Connolly from Huron South, Mrs. F. Howe, Provincial Curator as well as Miss G. Bird, Home Economist. Mrs. Graham McNee, . Dun- gannon, presided for the meeting and Mrs. Richard Buchanan, secretary treas- urer, read the minutes, correspondence and treasur- er's report. Mrs. Clayton Edwards of Goderich was the guest speaker and spoke on the theme of the meeting, "Wo- men, where are we in community action?" Mrs. K. Webster of Blyth thanked Mrs. Edwards. Mrs. Wm. Porter, Board Director gave the F. W .I.O. report and asked members to support the Erland Lee Foundation Fund and announced that W.I. week at Erland Lee. Home is , June 5 - 9. She announced also that the W.I. Hall at Ontario Museum at Milton will be open during July and August from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mrs. Porter also told members that some changes are coming up this fall in programs offered to W.I. members. Mrs. Grace Bird, Home Economist for Huron thank- ed- ,7the 4-H leaders and parents for their co-operation during the past year. There were more than 800 girls enrolled in the last two 4-H homemaking clubs and the current Garden Club has 5001 mergers. She announced that the Kits which had. previously been kept at Loan Library in Toronto office are now kept at O.M.A.F. office in Clinton so there are lots of opportunities for women of all ages to learn new homemaking skills. Mrs. P. C. Gonie-Tak, Development Officer for Town and Country Horne - Hughes celebrate 56th anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Allister Hughes, Lucknow, were din- ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Houston, Willoughby Street, Wednesday, June 7th, in honour of their 56th wedding anniversary. Other guests were Mrs. Annie Kennedy and Mr. and Mrs. Morley Trench, Listow- el; Mrs. Alice Worrall, Tees - water; Mrs. Vi Dennis, Scar- borough;,Miss Ada Webster, Lucknow; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Houston and Amy, Holyrood and later in the evening, Mir. and . Mrs. Robert Campbell, Wingham. A memorial service was conducted by Clinton Branch, Mrs. Cecil Elliott and Mrs. M. Button taking part, in memory of nine District Women's Institute members who had passed away during last year. The District will continued to support a Foster Child. Belgrave Branch conducted the "Pennies For Friend- ship" ceremony and it was announced that $202.71 was received. The Curator, the P.R.O. and various standing committee conveners each gave their,reports signifying a busy year throughout the district. Mrs. E.
