Word was received of the death of Morgan O'Connor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur O'Connor of Pickering on Saturday, June 3 of his home in Pickering following a lengthy illness. He was 53 years of age. He is survived by his mother, the former Margery Dalton of Kings- bridge, 3 brothers and 5 sisters. The funeral mass -was celebrated on Tuesday, June 6 in Pickering. Funeral mass was celebrated in the Dublin Roman Catholic Church on Monday morning, June 5 at 10.30 a.rn. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Dalton attended ,the wake of her cousin, Mr. Joe Clancy, of Chepstow at the Tanner and Pearson Funeral Home, Walkerton on Sunday, June 4. His burial was on Monday. Mr. Clancy was 65 years of age. Raymond ;Dalton returned home on Sunday, June 4 following holidays- with his sister, Antoinette Dalton, Royal. Oak, Michigan. Field Day was held at St. Joseph's School, Kings- bridge on Monday, June 5th. Mr. and - Mrs. George Nelson, newly weds have returned from an eight day honeymoon spent in Hawaii. They are making their home at the former Kelly house. Special welcome is given to George who originated from Calgary, Alberta. Charles McLean of Clinton and formerly of Ashfield Township visited with Joe and Teresa Courtney and Vincent and Idell Austin on Friday, June 2. Mr. and Mrs. John Shear - down and family of St. Thomas spent the weekend at the home of her mother, Mrs. Ormond Heffernan. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schindler and family of Marine City, Michigan spent the weekend with the O'Neill families here. Her mother, Mrs. James Moore, returned to Marine City, Michigan with them on Monday, May 29th following a ten day visit with her sisters, Mrs. Des- mond O'Donnell, Mrs. Cyril Austin and with her brother, Mr. Michael O'Neill. A special service held on Sunday morning, May 28 at St. Joseph's Church, Kings- bridge was the "Crowning of the Blessed ' Virgin Mary". Miss Annie VanDiepan did the crowning assisted by Jackie Dalton and Rose Marie O'Keefe with students from the Kingsbridge school taking part in the procession and in the choir. Mrs. Ida Grestan of Wat- erloo, Mrs. Joseph (Lucille Ryan) Copperauld and daughter Elizabeth of De- troit, Michigan were week end guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Clare and Mary Luanne. They attended the drama "Fiddler 'on the Roof" at the F. E. Madill Secondary School, Wingham in which Mary Luanne played the part of "The Grandmother". Goderich and Kingsbridge Youth attended a "Youth Day Retreat on Sunday, June 4 afternoon and evening at St. Joseph's Church, Kings- bridge. Leaders of discus- sions were Sister May Eileen and Sister Joan. Mass was celebrated at 5 p.m. followed by dinner catered to by the Catholic Women's League, Kingsbridge. The day's ev- - ents ended with a campfire held at the lake. Miss Sue Vogt, Livonia, Michigan spent the weekend previous to last with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter J. Vogt and members of the family. A Courtney - O'Neill and Sinnett reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sinnett on Friday even- ing, May 26. This evening was planned to give all the relatives a chance to visit with Mrs. Nora Sinnet of Gaithersburg, Maryland and Mrs: Shannon (Sinnett) Kel- lenbeck of Oregon before they returned to their homes. Mrs. Sinnett and her Baugh- , ter Shannon left on Monday, May 29 for a visit with relatives and friends in Detroit, Michigan. ST. JOSEPH'S SCHOOL On Monday, May 29th Kindergarten to grade four held an Arbour Day at the Kingsbridge School, This involved cleaning of the school yard from the ravages of winter, the planting of .a tree and the raising of a new Canadian flag. The new tree, a Linden Tree was donated to the school by Mrs. Jack (Bernardine) Kinney of the Kingsbridge area and plant- ed in memory of her brother the late Norman O'Loughlin of Sun City, Arizona who passed away on April 4 of this year. Mr. O'Loughlin was a former student of the Kingsbridge Lower School and graduated from . the Kingsbridge High School- in 1920.. Shawn Doherty and Mark Lalonde assisted the principal David Zyluk with the tree planting with Kind- ergarten to grades 4 students taking part in the program. The song "Plant the tree with Loving Care" was sung under the direction of music teacher Mrs. Nancy Park. Maria Dalton read the poem, "Planting A Tree". Mrs. Kinney addressed the stud- ents telling them how Arbour Day was started. Did you know that the first Arbour Day was celebrated on the first Friday in May, 1872 - 106 years ago? After the flag raising ceremony visitors and students were treated to cakes and freshie by Mrs. Eedy and Mrs. Park. The last community metric workshop of the year was held, on Thursday, June lst, and the subject was Capac- ity. The feeling of the group was that at first glance metric appeared to be hard,, but what was needed was the practice. Izncidentally, the class discovered that if a person drinks three bottles of a certain brewed drink in a brown bottle, they will have consumed about a litre of the stuff. In House Leagues, Ed- monton Juniors won their division in "Floor Hockey". Toronto placed second, Sas- katchewan third. Betty Jane Foran (Toronto) won Junior Girls handball. So at present Saskatchewan led the leagu- es with 376 points; Edmon- ton last year's champions, have 334 points and Toronto has 325 points. Track and Fiel co pe- titions took place nday, June 5. The winners will be participating in Zone Track and Field on Wednesday, June 14th. Obituaries MURDOCH McDONALD. Murdoch McDonald of Ripley died in Kincardine and - District Hospital on Saturday, May 27, 1978. He was the son of Donald and Annie McDonald. He was born on concession 6 Huron. Township on November 26, 1914. He worked on the family farm on concession six till 1951. Later he worked for the C.N.R.; Golden Glow Egg Grading Company and the Huron & Kinloss Telephone System. At the time of his passing he had been custod- ian at the Ripley District School for thirteen years and custodian at the Ripley Post Office for nine years. He married the former Pearl Huston of Huron Township in 1956. He was a member of the Canadian Order of Foresters and also a faithful member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Ripley. He was predeceased by his father in 1946; his mother in 1953; brothers, Morrison MacGregor in 1925 and Sandy MacGregor in 1962. He is survived by his wife, Pearl, also his sisters, Gladys Huston of Ripley; Cassie Price of Detroit and brothers, Roddy McDonald of Strat- ford; Norman MacGregor of Kincardine and Duncan Mac- gregor of Chase, Michigan. Funeral service was held on Tuesday afternoon May 30 at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home in Ripley with Rev. Hugh Nugent officiating and Rev. James Bushell of the United„ Church who is a very close neighbour and friend, assist- ing. Pallbearers were Gordon Cameron of Pine River; Delmar Cameron of London; Murray Cameron of Weston; Morrison and Norman Mac- Gregor Jr. of Kincardine and Oliver Smith of Huron Town- ship: Flower bearers were Wil- liam Turvill, Francis Gem- mell, Don Robertson, Dun- can D. MacLeod, Tom Price and Billy Cameron. ANNA C. MACKENZIE On May 24th in Humber Memorial Hospital, Anna C. Mackenzie die'd in her 82nd year. She was the oldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Murdoch C. Mackenzie of Ashfield. She taught in elementary schools in' Ashfield and West Wawanosh Township before going to Toronto where she taught until her retirement in 1962. Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. J. B. Rhodes of Toronto; Miss Charlotte Ma- ckenzie and Mrs. Philip Gower of Weston, and Mrs. Earl Howes of Ashfield, besides several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Predeceasing her were a sister, Isabel Mary, in 1928, and a brother, Hugh Cham- bers in 1968. Rev. Hugh Nugent con- ductedthe funeral service at the MacKenzie and McCre- ath Funeral Home in Luck - now. Interment was in Kin - tail Cemetery. HENRY ALFRED SCOTT Henry (Harry) Alfred Scott died at the Palmerston Nursing Home on Sunday, May 21, 1978 in his 91st year. He was born in Huron Township, the soli of the late William and Elizabeth Scott. He is survived by a daughter, Noreen, Mrs. Car- son Laughren of Gowanston, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A bro- ther, Ben Scott of Purple Grove and a sister, Gertrude Walsh, also survive. He was predeceased by his wife, Pearl McLean in 1934. Funeral services were held from the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Homme in Ripley with burial in Kincar- dine Cemetery. JAMES KINGSLEY EDGAR The death of James Kings- ley Edgar occurred suddenly at Lucknow on May 21, 1978. He was in his 76th year. He was born the son of the late David and Sarah Edgar on the 10th -concession of Culross where hefarmed for many years. He is survived by his wife, the former, Mary Carter, seven -daughters, Grace, Mrs. Levi Carter, Bluevale; Marjorie, Mrs.. Wm. Stroud of London; Marie, Mrs. Harold -Lamont, Wingham; Mary, Mrs. Jack Zister, Walkerton; Margaret, Mrs. Ted Beadley, Walkerton; Annie, Mrs. Ken Neable, Lucknow and six sons, Har- old of Lucknow; Frank of Walkerton; Henry of Luck - now; Charlie of Wingham; Donnie of Walkerton; and Peter of Walkerton. 46 grandchildren and four great. grandchildren also survive. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret May Jewitt, one brother, Howard, a sister, Ida, and a grand- daughter, Doreen Carter. The body rested at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Teeswater. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Proud of Teeswater on May 24. Interment followed in Teeswater Cemetery. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Bill and .Bob Darling, Levi and Keni Cart- er, Glen and Colin Lamont. Flower bearers were four granddaughters, Judy Cart- er, Christine Zister and Lois and Nancy Darling.
