PUPPET SHOW Kindergarten and Grade One classes were recently invited to Ripley District School to see several puppet plays. The plays were written and produced by Mrs. Hen- derson's grade 7 class. The primary children certainly showed their excitement and joy as each play was present- ed. The primary classes extend their thanks to Mrs. Henderson and her Grade 7 class for inviting them and wish them much success in (he puppet theatre. GRADE 6 ORIENTATION During the past several years grade 6 classes would go up to the high school for an Orientation Day. This year was no exception. The class started their trip by filling themselves with hot dogs and other foods from the cafeteria. After lunch the class was treated with the Mildmay -Carrick School Band. The grade 6 class then retired to the library. In the library Mr. Brown directed the classes attention to Ripley District School policies and routines. Mrs. Birnie', the school librarian, briefly explained the library procedures and attractions. A tour of the school was followed by a slide presenta- tion pointing out different aspects of Ripley District School. DANDELION BY CHRISTINE COVER Dandelion, Dandelion You're really on the ball! WOULD YOU BELIEVE ITT The weather on Thursday, May 25th was beautiful and the Kindergarten and Grade One classes were off on an . exciting trip to the African Lion Safari. We were waving good-bye to Ripley, but oh what was that smell? Smoke! Every- body out of the bus. Almost an hour later and on a different bus we eagerly started off once rriore. After a brief washroom break in Listowel we were on the road again. Everyone was so hungry that as soon as we arrived at the Safari we picniced on our squashed sandwiches, melted choco- late bars and warm pop. Our journey along the Safari Trail was fantastic. Everyone screamed with de- light when the monkeys jumped on the bus and sat looking through windows at us. The very best part of all was when Mrs'. Giraffe stuck her head in the bus windows to say hello to everyone. After spending some time touring the pet corner, and buying souvenirs and treats we were on our way home. Everyone was settling down to a nice relaxing trip home. Oh no! Something .is wrong with the bus. We're in the middle of the hill and it won't run. Finally we chugged our way to' the top and there on the other side is a Shell Garage. One hour later the garage man told us that we are all set to go. Once more we head for home but no sooner did we get on the road than the bus stopped once more. Back to the garage. Another hour passed and everyone was hungry, hot, thirsty, and tired. The bus company kindly consented to buy us our supper at MacDonald's. At seven o'clock we were joyfully on our way home again. We would like to thank all the helpers who were so fantastic, 'Dianne', the bus driver who was so patient, the parents who were very co -operative -and understand- ing and especially the Kind- ergarten children themselves who had such a long wait and who behaved so beautifully. Inspite of all our troubles we had a really wonderful trip and look forward to going again. Ripley District School ELEMENTARY MILDMAY STUDENT BAND The sixty members of the Mildmay Student Band came to Ripley District School on May 23. The members of the band came from the Public School of Mildmay and the Sacred Heart. The band was conducted by Mrs. Good. In their routine, they played such songs as Waltzing Matilda, Proud Mary, Little Rock and Herb Albert and the Tiawana Brass. We would like to thank the Mildmay band for coming as we enjoyed listening to them immensely. BASEBALL TOURNAMENT The Ripley boys, and girls teams attended a baseball tournament at Harrison Field in Owen Sound on Friday. Both teams played Hill - crest's "A" teams on Friday and then were billeted in homes of the Owen Sound team members for the even- ing. They attended a dance before refiring. -On Saturday the boys played Strathcoria and the girls played Durham. Al- though the teams did not win, the tournament was enjoyed by all.
