The Lucknow Sentinel, 1978-06-07, Page 17Dungannon Doings BY MARY BERE SOCIAL NEWS Congratulations to William Berry whose family gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Berry to celebrate his 80th birthday on Sunday. Mrs. Joy Vella and Tammy of Seaforth and Debbie Vella called on their aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Graham McNee on Saturday. Congratulations to Mr.. and Mrs. Gary Sproul on the birth of their son, weighing 7 pounds, born on Sunday morning, June 4, at. Alexand- ra Hospital, Goderich, a little brother for Matthew and Larissa. Dungannon Branch of Women's Institute provided a program at Pinecrest Nurs- ing Home in Lucknow on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Cliff Purdon, as chairlady, greeted all to the birthday gathering and each was served with cake and juice. Bagpipe music was provided by Mrs, Harold Elliott, also by" Mrs. Purdon, A sing. song of old favourites was led by the W.I. group accompanied by -Mrs. Elliott at the piano. Beth McConnell gave two readings and Mrs. Russell Alton sang several numbers accompanied by Mrs. J. Henwood of Goderich. Hap- py Birthday was sung for two residents, Mrs. Elsie Haney and Mrs. Miller and a gift was presented to each. Their convener expressed thanks and Aubrey Higgins also spoke appreciatively to the Dungannon ladies. On the same date the Blossom Tea at Huronview welcomed W. Branch members and their donations to the Bake Table, also their visits to the residents. On Monday, May 29th, nine Dungannon members attended the District Annual meeting at Nile at which about 100 ladies were in attendance. Guest speaker was Madeline Edwards from Goderich. Bessie McNee who, as president, acted as chairlady, is president for another year. DUNGANNON UNITED CHURCH Dungannon Nile charge held the annual church picnic at Menesetung Camp on Sunday with a church service at 11.00 a.m. followed by lunch and a program of games and races. Rev. C. 'G. Westhaver preached on the topic, "A Wise and Under- standing Heart". Nancy Er- rington sang, "Hoa► Great Thou Art", accompanied on the piano by Shelley Rivett.
