well -drilling minister to speak
at Whitechurch anniversary
The United Church's
"Well -Drilling Minister" is
coming to Whitechurch Unit-
ed Church for an 11 a.m.
service celebrating its anni-
versary on June 11th. The
Rev. Bruce Eaton served as a
Technical Missionary for the
United Church for six years
in India and later he also
worked in Bangladesh and
Zaire. He returned from
Zaire only a few weeks ago
and will be inducted as
Minister in Sebringville in

Mr. Eaton is one of the
modern breed of missionar-
ies who go out to do needed
work as requested in foreign
lands. He is a graduate, -with
honours, from Westdale
Technical School in Hamil-
ton. - Later he attended
Queen's University for Arts
and Theology. He was or-
dained by Hamilton Confer-
ence in 1962 and went to
India that year. Following
that period of service he was
an Associate Minister of St.
Paul's in Orillia for four
years.
He has worked not only for
his own church but -under the
auspices of International Re-
lief Agencies, such as Action
for Food Production (AFPR-
0) and the Christian Organi-
zation for Relief and Rehabil-
tation (CORR). His work in
Zaire was sponsored by? the
Presbyterian Church in the
U.S. He was Chief Drilling
Supervisor of Operation Wat-
erhold�there from March '77
to March '78.
Mr. Eaton, and his wife
Jean, have four children and
make their home near Staffa.
Mrs. Eaton has become well
known to U.C.W. Presbyter-
ial people as a fine speaker
on the human problems of
Asia.

sionary . Society held their
May 'meeting in the church
basement. Mrs. Jim West
had the call to worship. Mrs.
Gordon Finlayson had the
devotion followed by prayer.
Mrs. Henry MacKenzie
read a letter of thanks from
the Scott Mission and told of
.some useful ways the mis-
sion helps people in need.
Offertory prayer was given
by Mrs. MacKenzie. '
Mrs. Jim West prepared
the second part of our
Mission Study, ."Investigat-
ing the Community of People
in the Old Testament".
Mrs. Warren Wylds had
the business part of the
meeting.. Correspondence
was read. The meeting
closed with grace, lunch and
a social time followed.

The combined thankoffer-
ing and general meeting of
Lucknow United Church
Women, was held in the
Fellowship Room, Tuesday,
May 23rd at 8 p.m. with
thirty-five ladies in attend-"
ance.
The Stewardship division
was in charge of the devo-
tions, using "Time" as the
theme. Elizabeth Ritchie op-
ened the program by leading
in a sing song; accompanied
by Mrs. Gordon Cayley at the
piano. The scripture from
Ecclesiastes and remarks
were given. by Mrs. Alex
Andrew. A reading was read
by Mrs. Robt oIrwin. Mrs.
Gordon Morrison led in
prayer and the offering was
received by Mrs. Roy Havens
and Mrs. Cliff Menary and
dedicated by .Miss Ritchie.
Mrs. Andrew read a poem,
after which, the ladies sang a
hymn accompanied by Mrs.
Harvey Houston at the piano.
The committee in charge
•presented a skit on "Stew-
ardship" which very aptly
described the problems of
inflation and it's effects -on
the family, church, and
people on fixed income.
The president, Mrs. Glen
Walden, presided for the
'business portion of the
meeting and thanked the
Stewardship committee for
the program. The various
reports were given and the
following announcements
made.
Lucknow U.C.W. is invited
to attend the pageant "Brid-
al Gowns Through the Ages"
at Ripley United Church, on
June 5th. A retreat is to be
held. at Silver Lake, June
13th.
Unit one is responkible
for visiting Pinecrest patients
for the month of June. All
members are urged to visit at
Pinecrest Manor during the
summer months.
Tll'e members present vot-
ed to have a Fowl Supper
October 17th with prices
remaining the same as last
year.
Mrs. R. Irwin closed the
meeting with a coi test. A
social hour followed.
RIPLEY W.I.
Kincardine Cancer Society
presented the 'Ripley Wom-
en's Institute group at their
meeting in the United
Church, with a certificate of
acknowledging their work in
collecting for the Cancer
Society. Purple Grove mem-
bers were present also and
they received a certificate. •
All present were given a
plant in recognition of their
good work. Mr. Wakefield of
the Cancer Society made the
presentation. Mrs. Lock,
president of Ripley Branch
and Mrs. Reid, president of
the Purple Grove Branch
expressed thanks.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick gave a
reading and Reg Moore a
member of the Cancer Soci-
ety read a poem. Mrs.
Francis Gemmell and Mrs.
James Kirkpatrick sang a
duet accompanied by Mrs.
Ross Martyn.
A Tartan Tea will be held
in June at the Legion Hall for
the Hospital Auxiliary. A
bake sale will be held in
connection with the tea and
baking will be accepted from
all interested. A draw will be
made at the end of the tea for
a valuable article.
Mrs. Walter Lock gave a
report on the Officers' Con-
ference held at Waterloo
University and -Mrs. Joe
Scott reported, on the District
Annual at Pine River. All
enjoyed a tap dance number
by Kristi Wakefield of Kin-
cardine.
The next meeting will be a
coffee party at Mrs. Francis
Gemmell's home in Septem-
ber. Courtesies were given
by Mrs. Gemmell.
Mrs. Ross Cumming was
presented with a gift from
Ripley Branch on being
elected District President for
the next two years. She
expressed her thanks.
